Went here on a weekday, surprisingly busy, I thought I was in for a good meal, I was very wrong. Service and decor are fine, adult beverages were tasty, but the food was really bad. I actually can't remember the last time I had such bad food. I ordered their famous broasted chicken, I have had really good boasted chicken before and this was really bad, over cooked, skinless, there is nothing worse than greasy burnt rubbery chicken. My wife ordered a steak, she made the comment that she should have just ordered a charcoal briquette, it might have been better than what she ordered. Was this a restaurant or an extended kitchen of a clumsy pickle loving mother? As you can tell from the first sentence it was nothing of the sorts for a professional restaurant. My family and I walked out almost instantly. When walking up to the place the bar looked busy but had a poorly written sign stating no one under 21 permitted after 5. When we walked into the actual restaurant it looked very run-down and had no host. When walking towards the actual seating area there was a sign saying seat yourself. There was only one other family sitting down and they did not look pleased to be there. Before we could reach a table we were overwhelmed with the overly sour smell of vinegar from a pickle jar (reflection on the first sentence). There was no sort of anything reflecting BBQ so we walked out. Never even considering going near it again. read more

On September 26th, 2014 nine of us ladies were again in for lunch and as usual the food, prices and service were excellent. The ribs are the best in town. We come in several times a year for each other's birthday. One of the best parts of our visit is our server Roger. The most polite, patient and pleasant young man. So nice to sit and relax , laugh and talk, eat good food and have such good service. I recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Lost our reservation this time, made us wait for 1/2 hour without any recompence. Dining room not overly busy, but food took forever to come out of kitchen. I ordered a panini and the bread was hard and the meat dry, only redeeming factor was the blue cheese melted and provided some moisture. I think the cook made too early to go with the rest of the order and dried out under a heat lamp. Ribs were kinda skimpy and overcooked.. I tried the baby back ribs on the Tuesday lunch special. Mediocre is the best I can say about the ribs. Mostly bones, need the full rack to get barely enough meat for the price. Baked potato was cooked perfectly, but the teaspoon of butter and teaspoon of sour cream is not a correct portion for the potato. Soup was good and the cornbread was a little dry. Our server never checked to see if we needed refills of our drinks. I probably won't be back. read more

Very rude staff. I went here for years until one day an 18 year old came in the door behind me thinking she could be in the bar but just not drink. I had no idea who she was and the waitress screamed and cussed at me saying this girl was with me and to get the F$&@ out... I'm disgusted. The waiter didn't even let me explain that I didn't know who it was she just kept screaming at me even when I asked for a manager. It's not like the doors are locked anybody can walk in. We chose this place at random when looking for a quick bite and a beer after a very long day, and it exceeded our expectations! Each of the four of us ordered something different and we were all pleased. The cheeseburger sub had a fat juicy burger done to a perfect medium rare, as I'd requested, on a fresh roll, and my sister loved her crab cake sandwich, as well. The house made croutons on the tossed salad were especially good. The beer was cold and cheap ($2.75 for a large draft) and the service was prompt and friendly....we will definitely be making this a regular stop! read more

I advise to not sit on the patio. I know it is a bar/dining patio but they allow anything. 2 couples in their 30's obviously trashed being very foul and extremely loud. I have children that a age and I would be embarrassed and horrified to see them act like that. No manners. Someone should have said something. My friend, Mark, and I stopped at the Corner Stables restaurant in York on a Friday afternoon to grab a bite to eat. There are two doors; one door leads to a dining room and the other door leads to the bar. The bar allows smoking and the smell of smoke was very strong in the bar, so we elected to sit outside on the deck. The Corner Stables has a varied menu with plenty choices of chicken, seafood and ribs. There are plenty of varieties of sandwiches and burgers. Mark ordered a rack of ribs with bbq sauce and two sides. He indicated that the ribs were good. At the recommendation of our server, I ordered the grilled Reuben sandwich with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and cole slaw on marble rye bread. The sandwich included a substantial portion of corned beef and was good. After the server brought out our drinks, she brought out cornbread with honey butter. The cornbread was very tasty. The atmosphere outside was very relaxing. It almost felt like we were at the beach. The rain started falling heavily and despite the straw roof over our head, we started getting wet, so we headed inside. I would recommend the Corner Stables, but would not recommend sitting in the bar area. read more

If you like chain restaurants you will probably not like this place, it doesn`t feel mass produced. My best memory of here was years ago - i was eating lunch and an older lady was at a nearby table. When the server brought her food there was a small exchange but noticeable that it caught my attention. The woman forgot her wallet and was embarrassed, she refused the food. The woman quickly left, i felt bad but did nothing to help. The server went back to the kitchen. A few minutes passed and a cook came rushing out with a takeout box. He cleaned the table putting the food in the box and ran back to the kitchen with it. The cook looked like i expected male with longer hair, tattoos and unshaven. A minute or two later the cook is running flat out down the road to catch this woman. We caught her and finally got her to agree to take the food. She hugged him and that was that. Ever since then that seems to be the difference between here and other places. They actually seem to care. The food is decent and prices are fair. The last time i was in the bar it was a bit smokey. read more

I dined here on Father's Day with family. Upon seating us the hostess informed us that they were out of ribs (which they are "famous" for), shrimp, crab, and chicken wings. While waiting for the rest of our party to arrive the waitress told us that as soon as they got there we would have to place our order due to them shutting down the kitchen and closing the restaurant. The food was mediocre, nothing special, the waitress was attentive and kind. I would expect a restaurant to be better prepared for a holiday and have enough food to serve their full menu. read more

Over the past several years, we have been here 2-3 times, but this last visit will probably be our last. From the outside, it looks like it could be a really cool place for dinner, but on the inside (non-smoking restaurant side), it's your basic diner establishment. They have a wide range of foods (steaks & prime rib, baby back ribs, fish, crabcakes, chicken, etc...), and in the past, the food has always been good (not great, but good). This last visit, that was not the case. My wife had the crabcake dinner, which was fine, but I ordered the broasted chicken dinner, and it was way over cooked. Very dry, hard to eat, and lacking all flavor. And the vegetable of the day was peas, which were obviously from a can, and also way over-cooked. One of the worst meals that I think I've ever had in York. And since it normally takes 20-25 minutes to get broasted chicken, I did not complain because I did not want to sit there and wait for them to "re-do" it. For the future, we'll go elsewhere. And if they keep serving meals like that, so will a lot of other customers. read more

Went here for Mothers Day, in the Dining side, the whole experience was an absolute joke!! Took 50 minutes from the time we sat down to the time we received our food. Drinks were never refilled nor was even asked if we wanted a refill. I ordered the small platter special, the Mac n cheese tastes like it came out of a box and my BBQ chicken was so over cooked that I couldn't even cut it without putting some muscle into it. Probably could've bounced it off the wall it was that rubbery. My mother got the Delmonico steak special, the mashed potatoes is definitely instant potatoes which is a shame!! Paying $16.99 for steak and disgusting potatoes out of a box is nuts!!! The corn bread on the menu says it comes with honey butter, well hate to burst your bubble but it's not butter!!! It's margarine!!! It wouldn't even melt on the corn bread when you applied it. My brother got the Chefs salad, it came with pickles instead of cucumbers and saltines instead of croutons!! Our waiter gave us really poor service! We only saw him a handful of times. When I told him about my meal and how disgusting it was, all he had to say is "ok" and took my plate! Not a "can I substitute it with something else" or "would you like me to take it off your check?!!!" He didn't bother asking me if I would like something else until 15 minutes after he took my plate back. I was not about to wait there another hour for disgusting food!!! We were not the only ones that were disappointed about dinner. Heard several others that surrounded us complaining about their meals. I am embarrassed that I took my mother here for dinner on mother's day!!! I have no doubt that the bar side is keeping the Dining side a float! I always thought Corner Stables was a nice place to go when you want to have a quiet lunch or dinner with close friends. The ambiance has always been laid back and casual without plunging into decrepitude like the redneck joints in my area. However, the food was always so-so in my book. After a bit of a respite from visiting CS, I decided to return last week. I ordered their "famous" ribs, and they really got it right this time. The flavor was wonderful, and although I wish their ribs were meatier like Barny's, they still are worth the bucks when you get them on Tuesday night when they're on special. The other items we noshed on didn't fare so well. The crab rolls were too heavy on the bacon, and I'll take their word for it that there was actually crab meat in them. The chocolate cake with peanut butter icing was reduced in appeal by the fact that it came out of the refrigerator, giving it a hardened, dry quality. Still, I'll keep going back. I just like the feel of the place, the good service, and the food is good when careful choices are made. read more

The waitress did a great job, and took good care of our group. We had reservation and got seated right away,but the place was half empty on a Friday night. That should have been a clue. For those adverse to smoke, the front door splits, one side goes to the bar and the other to the restaurant. The bar side was full of smoke which fills the entrance. I didn't mind but others may and it sets off the first experience of the night. The Beer & Cheese soup was good, nice and thick and good flavor. The crab dip was off, and had a slight ammonia taste, which is an indication that the crabs used for the meat were old. When crabs are out of water for more than a couple of days they will get an ammonia hint to the meat. So I would avoid the crab dip - unless you like a hint of ammonia. We eat crabs all the time, so we are aware of this issue. The special was Prime RIb, which I am a fan of. In defense of the place the menu says that the prime rib is a fatty cut of meat and if you don't like fat don't order it. It provides the same warning on the Delmonico steak. I am keenly aware that both of these cuts will be served with some fat and fat marbling in the meat. I am used to having some fat cut off my dish, as that is the nature of the cut, but why would you serve a piece of prime rib that is half fat? My cut was at least or more than half fat - not fat within the meat - pure fat. I nearly spewed my drink through my nose when the waitress asked if I wanted a box for what was left on my plate. I am guessing that Helen Keller was cooking that night, but I suspect that even she could have seen the fat content. They warned me and I am used to fat in the dish, but half? It was also a pretty thin cut, which could be a bit thicker. My wife enjoyed her crab cake and BBQ chicken dish, and that tasted fine. Others enjoyed their meals, but they are not ones to complain. I had tried the place a few years ago and it was not a great experience. We decided to give it another shot which was a mistake. A few hours later, let's just say the stomach and I had some issues for most of the night. read more

We no longer go to this place. I just wanted to mention the confusing name. It is sometimes called Corner Stable and sometimes Corner Stables. I drove past it the other day and learned why: their front door windows say Corner Stable but two exterior signs say Corner Stables. They seem confused themselves. August 2016. Decided to try the place again twice this month. Both times I discovered they have joined the ranks of other restaurants that don't know how to make a sandwich. Football shaped burger, hunks of lettuce and tomatoes sliced on an angle. With every bite something slides in one direction or another. Eventually half the tomatoes and lettuce were on the plate, place mat, my pants and their floor. It's simple. I do it at home a lot. Make everything thin enough to fit in your mouth. Make everything flat and level on both sides. Two or three layers of tomato and lettuce doesn't make it better. Sometimes more is not better, it's just more. read more

We visited here on Taco Tuesday and Jamie the bar person was very busy but she was very efficient taking care of the bar and tables so we thought we would go again and Jessie was tending bar and totally ignored us her cigarette was more important then paying customers NOT good business practice more interested in smoking then making owner money NO PERSONALITY!!!!Will only go there when Jamie is working LOVE HER!!! I've been to the non-smoking restaurant several times. The food was mostly frozen food heated up, the burgers burnt, and the wait staff ignored my family each time. They only worried about their usual customers or couples. We won't go back. read more

Local taverns take note. This place has been in York or years and is a deserved local favorite. They originated in Maryland and I hear became famous there for ribs. Have never been to the MD location(s), but that reputation is also deserved here. The other menu items are also well liked by my friends and myself. They always have a good beer special and good happy hour. The food and service make this place worthy. The price is right. Their deck makes it fun during the summers. The restaurant is good inside and has good specials. The indoor tavern area is so smoky however that my friends and I only go there during the summer and sit outside. I'm not against smoking in bars but with the money they make they could easily afford to spend more money on air cleaners. I have been to cigar bars where you hardly notice the smoke, not here. One drawback for those whose health require low fat, they have no good vegetarian, healthy seafood dishes or any salads worth ordering. How hard would it be to add some good tasting salads? We went there at 7 on a Thursday night when the main rush was over. The sign said to seat ourselves and we did. Several waitresses passed us by, but no one seemed to notice us or give us a "be right there". Finally, a waitress came and took our order. We started with steamed clams and they were the tiniest clams I ever saw. You could put 4 on a teaspoon! Our order came and the ribs wee good and the coleslaw was fresh. A roll of paper towels sit on each table and are a nice touch ,but some wet naps would be useful. We waited for our check,since once again the waitress was ignoring us. Worst dining experience in years. Ordered crabcake dinner; the rest of the family ordered ribs. After waiting 40 min (only 3 other tables in dining area occupied), and asking after our meals twice, food was served. Crabcake was cold on the inside. Raw. Not cooked at all. Returned it to kitchen but didn't want to wait for another meal -- let the family finish theirs and asked for check. I was charged for the 2 sides that accompanied the crabcake because I "...didn't send them back." Outrageous! I was furious, and paid the bill with protest. No apology from waitress. No manager on duty. Waitress sent burly kitchen help out to listen to my complaint. No apology from him either. His comment: "we checked the crabcake and it was warm". No. Not even a little. I used to go often. Word of mouth kept me away for a while. Friends were right. Still a nice place to have a beer and shoot pool at a reasonable price with friendly service, but the food has gone down hill. Once known as one of the places to get the best burgers in town, it's now mediocre at best. Ordered a blue cheese bacon burger and was served a decent burger smothered in cheap blue cheese dressing.
