Stumbled across this gem while in town on business. I was searching for somewhere to have lunch on Yelp and so many places were returned from my search however as I scrolled through reviews and pictures Corner Bistro stood out. Upon pulling in the lot the place is nestled in the corner of a strip mall type of complex and from the outside I thought "How Cute it's on the corner of the strip hence corner bistro". However upon entering the place was super cute with a Beautiful glass chandelier perched above the bar and these exquisite orange bar chairs with backs lined the bar. The staff was so welcoming and friendly to say the least. It's always good to eat at an establishment where people appreciate their job and know how to treat people. My first visit and my third visit today were for lunch and both times I had the Chef Express Lunch with contains 4items each time a soup, salad, dessert & food item CHEF choice. My second visit was for dinner on Wednesday which is Half Price Wine bottle night. The veggie flatbread we had for an appetizer was amazing and our entrees were as well. My nanny had the chicken and I had salmon. We also shared a dessert that was soo good it is called the BooDino YUM YUM YUM.. We arrived with high expectations. They didn't work out. First ordered a manhattan, it arrived on crushed ice, who puts a manhattan on ice without being asked. Next ordered the salmon dish, it was disappointing, one of the members of our party ordered steak frites, medium rare, received it well done. I love the Yelp app for my Blackberry... once again it proved to be an invaluable tool when my boyfriend and I wanted to know the skinny before making the trek south. Thanks once again fellow Yelpers! Corner Bistro offered a solid 4 1/2 star dining. The ambiance was urban professional chic, a little nicer than I had expected so I was glad I didn't show up in jeans. We opted to sit in the bar which has a couple cozy booths and a view of. The bartender was actually our server, which I thought was pretty interesting. My only complaint is that he was really into the Phillies game and I had to be more aggressive about getting his attention than I would have expected for a restaurant of this caliber. But he gets props for the perfect wine suggestion to pair with my meal, which was PHENOMINAL. I opted for the special of the day which was succulent pork on the bone mushrooms deglazed in wine served on a bed of polenta. UBER yummy. My honey got the steak, which he asked requested to be BURNT and the chef suprisingly served up perfectly and without complaint. Neither of us had a morsel left on our plate. We also opted to share the dessert, also recommended by our server/bartender, which was as fabulous as he promised it would be. It have no idea what was in it, but it was layer after layer of fabulousness served in a ramekin and the bottom was happily coated in graham cracker crumbs. My mom and I came to check out this place on an early Saturday afternoon. Let me say, the outside is totally unassuming but you walk in and feel like you could be downtown or in some city. It's so cute and the decor is amazing. We ordered bloody Mary's which weren't great but whatever. We had French onion soup, duck meatballs and chicken Caesar salad. The food was awesome, really well cooked and decently large portions. They had a happy hour from 3-6 (or close to that) which I really want to check out. Overall definitely try this place! read more

Pretty lively as I entered - a little party in the bar area. Got a seat right away as a walk in, place was half full. Elderly crowd indicated its more early bird than night owl here..... Great Pilsner on tap, and the cocktail menu is a bit odd - a lot of "house infused" this and that. Didn't try it. Short rib was a solid dinner option - came out fast which is what I expect in a slow cooked dish prepared a day or so in advance. They snuck some truffle oil into the polenta - and that's a pet peeve of mine. Mushrooms were listed on the menu, but nasty synthetic truffle is too much for me - I wish I had been warned. read more

I am so happy I found this little hidden gem! With restaurants just starting to open back up after COVID-19, it was hard to find a last minute reservation tonight... but I found this restaurant on yelp and was able to get a table! My family had a lovely time at dinner and every single thing we ordered was delicious. We loved how the restaurant was decorated. Everything is homemade and made with local, sustainably grown ingredients. We can't wait to go back again and try more things on the menu!! Even my kids tried everything and loved it all. We came here for a co worker's going away party, there was about 19 of us. We were seating in the main dining area towards the back. For Appetizers we got: 1. Traditional Tarte Flambée Goat cheese, pork belly & caramelized shallots. $14- This was basically like a flatbread pizza with pork belly and goat cheese- I would recommend this! 2. House frites Perfectly seasoned shoestring fries with roasted garlic aioli. $6- nothing special, the sauce is pretty good thought. 3. Cheese plate- They gave us three types of cheese. I don't think it is worth the 16 bucks. 5. Calamari- average but overpriced for $11 6. Herb goat cheese crostini Imported goat cheese and fresh herbs on baguette croutons drizzled with rosemary honey and crushed pine nuts. $10 - I enjoyed this, it's a decent amount so make sure you have like 4 people to share. I love cheese so I enjoyed this super creamy goat cheese dipping sauce. For my entree I got a salad and a meal (yes I'm greedy) 1. Hearts of romaine salad- It was not shredded so you have to cut it yourself. The dressing was pretty good, similar to a cross between ranch and blue cheese dressing. 2. salmon- It was super dry so I would not recommend this. The service was friendly. I think it's a nice place to try if you work around Wilmington and need more options. It is north of downtown Wilmington so like 20 min. We tried Corner Bistro for brunch today and overall enjoyed it. I had the roasted red pepper quiche which comes with a petite French onion soup and my boyfriend had the frittata. My quiche and soup were AMAZING. The pork belly on the frittata was really good but the rest of the frittata wasn't very flavorful, another slice of pork belly would've helped. We also ordered the baked Brie but unfortunately I think our waiter forgot to put it in but we weren't charged for it so no worries. I felt bad because they were clearly understaffed and our waiter was running around like crazy. We'll definitely be back for brunch or to try dinner sometime! read more

I'm impressed, this place was very unassuming from the outside and really nice on the inside. The ambiance was very pleasant and set a great mood for the night. We went on a Monday night and the restaurant wasn't very crowded, so it was pretty easy to find a table. The wait staff were kind and very helpful when trying to decide what to order. We selected the Brie & toast to start, followed by cucumber margaritas. Both were delicious! The cucumber margarita was pretty small, but had great flavor. The Brie is very easy to share with a group of 4-5. For our entrees, we ordered the sweet potato gnocchi, crab cake & risotto, and shrimp & salmon quinoa paella. All were yummy! The gnocchi is really just an appetizer size, so if you're looking for a vegetarian entree, add a salad on the side. The crab cake was the best and very rich. The paella was different and pretty flavorful. To finish the meal, cookies were served with the check. It was definitely a nice gesture :) All in all, great experience! read more

We discovered Corner Bistro via Yelp while traveling to Delaware/Pennsylvania for a weekend and were looking for a late Saturday dinner. It was late enough in the evening that the restaurant didn't seem to be busy and Corner Bistro seems to be more of a local spot than a touristy spot. We were immediately greeted by a friendly host and wait staff and were promptly seated in a cozy, chic dining room. I ordered the house salad with is mixed greens severed with goat cheese, dried cranberries, candied pecans, and champagne vinaigrette, sweet potato gnocchi, and my boyfriend opted for the Cuban Sandwhich. I was incredibly pleased with the mix of flavors in the salad and the sweet potato gnocchi was one of the best I've had. The homemade gnocchi was served with fresh whipped ricotta and pesto which both added an unreal flavor to the dish. The fresh whipped riccota was light and one of the best I've ever had. The small plate and salad were plenty of food for one person. My boyfriend who loves Cuban Sandwhiches was very pleased with his selection. Everything at Corner Bistro is locally sourced and it made for a great dining experience. The service was relatively fast and our waiter was nice and took some time to get to know us. I had high hopes for this place. I knew I was in trouble when the menu wasn't seasonal. For a small restaurant focused on a few menu items, a non-seasonal menu means they're not concerned with ingredient quality. That led us to pick what we thought were safer menu items. This restaurant has been our favorite for special occasions since moving to Delaware 21 years ago. Indeed, prior to the pandemic it served a wonderful menu with nightly specials on Friday and Saturday. Though some family members returned in April this year, this was my first return since December 2019. We arrived at 5:45 p.m. and were immediately seated and were waiting for one member of our party. The music in the dining room was blaring. Servers came to take cocktail orders and didn't seem to comprehend our decision to wait for others as 2 more came to take these orders. There was a rush on by the servers to get our orders in before a table of 12 arrived. One in our party requested a Heineken beer. AND THE BAR WAS OUT OF ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR BEERS. It was Friday night, and the bar was packed. The menu is fixed with no specials. Starters and Salads and Appetizers menu is unchanged since 2019 BUT final fare is a very sorry ghost of the former. Soup was watered down. Wedge salad had Acme ice burg lettuce with a poor excuse of blue cheese dressing. Could it be Marie's? Worst to come was the ravioli stuffed with butter nut squash. The menu described this entre with a béchamel sauce. What came was 15 tough raviolis stuffed with a 1/8 teaspoon of something with no discernable taste, drowning in a watered-down pesto sauce. The dish was over salted and disgusting to me. Desserts are overpriced. This menu is unchanged in 3 years. Coffee wasn't offered. We arrived at 5:45 and left at 6:45. No longer a place for fine dining, Corner Bistro is now a diner with short-order cooks turning out the same food night after night, just like it's cousin "Lucky's" next door. TLDR: Overall, Corner Bistro has a great environment, but the expensive food really missed the mark. Factoring in the slow service, we won't be coming back anytime soon. Unfortunately, this is one of the only upscale restaurants in north Wilmington, so better options are few and far between. Our family has been coming here for a while, but since the new chef has come in, our experiences haven't been all that great. For starters, the ambiance is comfortable and relaxing. It is of the classier places in north Wilmington, with a traditional bar and very nice dining area, albeit a bit small and cramped. Right off the bat, we ordered a few drinks (dirty martinis, wines, and iced teas) which took forever to arrive. Even though there were only a few guests at the bar, it took around 15-20 minutes for us to receive our orders, by which we had already finished our appetizers and were about to cancel the drinks. Needless to say, the service was very disappointing and frustratingly slow. For starters, I ordered the wedge salad and french onion soup. While the soup was hearty, the salad did not live up to standards. The leaves were browned at the ends and the dressing clearly came from a Hidden Valley bottle. The bacon bits didn't add much flavor and the bleu cheese was flavorless. Overall, the salad tasted processed, careless, and unsatisfying. The sign says this dish is locally sourced, which is 100% accurate-the ingredients tasted as if sourced from the nearby Food Lion. For the entrees, I ordered the crusted chicken with mashed potatoes and asparagus. This was very good, with a rich, bold balsamic glaze and fresh tomato and onion garnish on top. The chicken carried great seasoning and the mashed potatoes were light and salty. The asparagus was charred and added good texture to the dish. I highly recommend this one. While I didn't have these dishes, my friends and family made the following recommendations: Entrees I recommend: The duck - fragrant and bold Salmon - rich risotto, delicate fish Short ribs - the parsnip puree is incredible Entrees I don't recommend: Caesar salad - browned lettuce leaves and bottled Caesar dressing; the menu said it included parmesan cheese, but it tasted clearly like Swiss Fish tacos - very dry, tasteless fish in a plain, processed tortilla read more

This place is a hidden gem! I loved my experience here! The interior is cute (I sat at the bar under the chandelier), the service is amazing and the food... the food is fantastic! I ordered the sweet potato gnocchi, house flatbread and a dessert (photo attached, forgot the name of it). The cook(s) blew me away with everything I ordered from appetizer to dessert. I enjoyed every single bite. That dessert I got was heavenly... In addition, it's a great place to sit comfortably, relax and mingle. The 'bed of Kale' was, in fact, a kingsized bed, and was quite oversized. The Halibut, sat atop of the Kale mass, was of a good size but was disappointingly dry and unappealing. Both Kale (lots) and fish (some) remained on the plates at dinners end. Nice desserts, and good, fresh coffee closed the evening well. Three stars for disappointing food for half our party, but also for the ludicrously loud music that played throughout, despite two requests to turn it down just a little. My gripe was relatively small, especially in light of the otherwise wonderful experiences my family has always had here). Mickey completely got where I was coming from and agreed that our server should have been told that they could make the accommodation I requested. The fact that the owner cares enough to actually read these reviews, consider what is being said, and then reach-out to customers makes me like this business even more. First, let me say that this place is in a strip mall and that is my only complaint (I know - not much of a complaint). The food and drinks were really good. I had the wedge salad (blue cheese crumbles and bacon - yum) and the short ribs. The short ribs came with mashed potatoes, spinach, and mushrooms. If you like those things (and I do) this is a great dish to get. An added bonus was the chocolate chip cookies that came with the bill - really nice touch. I've been holding out on rating this place because it makes me sad when a restaurant doesn't live up to my expectations. We came in and loved the decor and friendly service. It's charming considering it being tucked away in a small strip mall. What ruined our meal was the tuna tartare entree--tuna three ways that sounded fantastic but the tuna that came out was gray in color and sour so it didn't taste fresh. I was worried I would be sick the next day. My husband ordered the braised short rib and that was very good which saved our experience. I do like that they are environmentally conscientious and instead of plastic straws have cool corn husk straws instead. Unpretentious, hidden gem. If I ever found myself in the area again, I would find myself here for tasty, new American, French-inspired fare. The atmosphere is very cozy and tastfully decorated. It's in French bistro theme with appropriate tiles, quirky bar stools, high moulding accents, dim lights and ornate frames. The menu is very concise and I really like that. There's no agonizing over what you want and it probably means they're really good at what's being offered as it's 1 of twenty versus forty. My dining companion and I ordered the soup of the day (tomato basil), duck meatballs, sweet potato gnocchi, tamarind-rubbed short rib, and the KEY LIME PIE. The soup had excellent flavor, but the texture was having an identity crisis. It wanted to be rich, but it was a bit watery. It wanted to be creamy, but it maintained some of the tomatoes' chunkiness. I didn't mind that the soup was this way and I understood why. The flavor was delicious, but even so, this thought occurred. The meatballs were good. When ordering, ask for the sauces on the side. We found the intricate duck flavor could easily be overshadowed by the sauce. The gnocchi's lumpy texture with speckles of sweet potatoes was redeemed by the excellent accoutrements; whipped ricotta (?) cheese and garlic pesto. It doesn't sound like it would work, but it all worked REALLY well. The sweetness from the gnocchi paired well with the savoriness of the cheese. The pesto broke up the love affair and turned it into a menage trois. Short rib was tender and served on a bed of braised (?) greens, and parsnip puree. The savoriness of the short rib went really nicely with the greens' earthiness and parsnips' sweetness. For me, it was borderline eh, but in perfect proportion was a welcome kick to my buds. GET THE KEY LIME PIE. End of story. Just perfect!!!! They have many wines on the list, house cocktails and Dogfish Head beers. Speaking of which, this place tries to source locally (from a farm and Lancaster co-op) and the menu changes quarterly. Some other odds and ends...Service was genuine, personable and attentive. Everything was seasoned perfectly. Water is served in a bottle and left on the table so guests do not need to wait for a server. The women's restroom was tidy. read more

And the food was also a bit less stellar this time except for some really fabulous crab ravioli. Helpful tip for prospective diners: You may want to ask to be seated in the main dining room. If you are seated outside the bar area you become privy to endless gossipy conversations amongst wait staff, as this is the place they hang out. While a little chitchat is fine with me, listening to your personal foibles nonstop during my meal gets a bit old. read more

my husband and I were there for a little valentines celebration. first the good. our server was attentive and kind. second the lobster ravioli had good flavor. the bad. the lobster ravioli was lacking sauce and not sure where they were from but they seemed right out of the freezer section at giant. the salad had pumpkin seeds on it right out of the pumpkin. they were so chewy that they took away the enjoyment and flavor of the salad because had to chew and chew and chew. so decided to just push them off to the side. the filet was far from a filet. I have never had a filet that couldn't be cut with a butter knife like cutting through butter. it was tough and chewy and overcooked twice. and the potatoes were cooked well but had no flavor. I've eaten here before and have never been so disappointed. honestly feel like I got ripped off. definitely not worth $65 per meal. two thumbs down!!! read more
