FOOD: the food is usually very good it is one of our favorite places to eat at but today they fell way below expectations. We ordered a few sandwiches and when I took a bite, I realized it tasted a little funny and then I looked at the bread and realized it was cover in mold. To say the least that spoiled my appetite and we chose not to eat there after all. SERVICE: the service was not bad, when we let the employees know about the issues with the bread they offered to remake our meals but we chose to get a refund. We were not going to risk it. AMBIANCE: almost every table in the restaurant was dirty and it was not because they were busy since we were the only costumers in the restaurant, but rather what I believe is a lack of effort to maintain a clean environment. OVERALL EXPERIENCE: I would give this restaurant less than one star due to the lack of upkeep. I believe the staff. Needs to be retrained and more effort needs to be placed into ensuring food quality. Will not be eating at this location anymore to say the least. Sad! read more

Small portions and overpriced. But they give you a small bag of chips so it's ok. This is my third time here when I have been dissatisfied with the service and the price. While the food was not bad, it was not up to par with the pricing and advertisement. I ordered a tuna sandwich and orzo soup. The sandwich was good but looked mediocre and reminded me of school lunch. The orzo soup was warm but I saw no orzo just cream and small veggie pieces. The service was not rude but bland and seemed the employees were bored. The ambiance wasn't dirty but the air felt damp and the roof at the entrance was damaged. I'm disappointed and amazed at how this place has any business and yet we have yet to get a Panera opened here in the valley. read more

Coffe was hot and tasty. The pancakes were hot and good. The eggs were room temperature as was the oatmeal and toast. Nothing to add to your oatmeal unless you go back to the counter and ask for it. Servers were great. Although you have to go to the counter and order. Also no opportunity to tip at the counter and I didn't have any cash so no tip. read more

I come here all the time with my mom for morning breakfast. And no matter what I get I enjoy my breakfast with a nice cup of coffee. I high recommend the pancake combo or just a bowl of their iron oats. If you come for lunch get the choose two, chicken carbonara pasta with any of their sandwiches. I just arrived from Dallas and of course I decided to have dinner at one of my favorite places in Dallas. What a mistake it was... first of all the workers didn't know the menu ... as I ordered a simple GLUTEN free toast!!!!!! They didn't know why it was not showing up on their register, then they claimed they didn't have drip coffee anymore . Upon receiving my group order employees had messed up on our drinks...they failed to put labels on cups so they didn't know which drink was which... out of the two waiters none offered to remake them and gave us attitude about it, then my toast was cold so I asked if they could please take back and toast it... waiter brought it back cold again... so I asked why it was still cold and waiter gave me attitude so I asked his name and he told me that they were under staffed... like okay and? They only had 10 people dining in... then he told me if I had any question I needed to ask their manager. Then they sent a girl to ask what was wrong, I asked if she was the manager and she said no... that is when I told her I would speak to corporate... then they had the dishwasher come out and say he was "the manager... so I told him that our order was incorrect and the employees were rude... he then just walked off... later he came back with a paper and pen and told me his general manager wanted my name!!!!!! WTF general manager sent someone to ask for my name, like for what??? To intimates the customer from out of town!!! I didn't even ask for a refund for the wrong orders or cold toast... all I wanted was my order to be fixed so I could have dinner after a long trip! I must say that the excuse of being understaff is not valid for treating any customer with such lack of respect and devalue the customer and to add to insult the general manager sent an employee who had claimed he was the manager to take my name!!! Then they started turning lights off... this has been the worst experience EVER at a corner bakery! I had to eat my toast cold and had employees harassing me! I always respect restaurant employees , but these employees need to be trained and definitely reprimanded... how dare they come and try to intimidate a customer that is paying for them to have a Job! I do hope that they don't ever do this to any customer...they need to know they are representing Corner bakery even if they are in McAllen where it is known to lack customer service!! Never will I go back to this establishment nor anybody else whom wants to be treated with dignity. All ingredients tasted very fresh and cooked well no complaints. For a decent price too honestly felt I got more than what I paid for. Only complaint I would say is that the crust was extra rough but my teeth are kinda sensitive with stuff like that from braces so probably wouldn't notice it other than it being crusty which I enjoy in sandwiches. I don't know about the pickle I'm not a fan of them so I didn't taste it. People are really chill and nice despite post covid still going on. Limited menu when I went but they still got a lot of good stuff. Store itself was clean too. Overall just a smooth process order food eat no hassles you can just enjoy the food. read more

Sunday 11 am no eggs, no coffee, no cream. Tried to order breakfast and they said they were out of eggs and it would be 20 minutes. Ordered coffee. All the coffee were empty and had to be brewed. When the coffee was refilled finally, they were out of milk. Went to order lunch after pulling up the menu on their website as they were only showing their breakfast menu on the board. Ordered and was told it's 20 minutes for any food order because they are backed up. What we got served was horrible. Avoid this and place. Corporate should really look into how this place is being run, because I've been to other Corner Bakeries and they are much better run and serve better food. read more

Does corporate know what's going on here? They have the breakfast menu out but then say that they are out of eggs/or that it would be 25 minutes before they made more. We just decided to take coffee but upon trying to serve ourselves coffee they were out of all coffee options. One of the employees then had the idea that she could serve us from the coffee in the back. Fine. But then there were no milk or cream options. So we go back and order lunch. 25 minute wait. Mind you, the place was not busy and it was fully staffed. In the meantime I bought a piece of cake. They offered no forks for it and I guess expected for me to eat it with my bare hands. Went with a group of women for lunch. Dining area was clean, cannot comment on the restroom as never used. When our orders came many were messed up, after several minutes they were corrected. It's amazing how management feels they should place a new hire at the cash register with now supervision! Unfortunately they did just that, this is my my order took so long to take, not to mention it ended up being wrong after I restated it several time. So far so good. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, good food. The place was crowded. That's not a bad thing. Most new places in an area as compact as McAllen will create a crowd in the first few months of doing business. This restaurant is well done. Walking in and seeing everyone enjoying themselves makes you want to sit down and join. Maybe we were lucky, but we found a seat right away. Having seating outside is a nice touch because there are so few places in this area that make such spaces. I know we don't have west coast weather in TX, but there are still are a number of agreeable days to take advantage of. Maybe it's the overwhelming amount of flies in this area? Anyway, back to the experience..... I ordered a meatball panini which was pretty much some sliced sausage topped with cheese in a sourdough bun that had been grilled. Nothing wrong with that in my book. Comes with a side of marinara for dipping or coating, whatever type of eater you are. Bottom line, I'll be back to this place. I really don't understand all of the negative reviews of this place! I absolutely LOVE coming here for breakfast and make a point to stop in at least twice a week. For starters, the atmosphere is really nice and peaceful. Music plays in the background of a more upscale looking, casual place. I really dig the atmosphere of the restaurant. It's a bit of a maze walking up to the counter to order, but ordering is pretty straightforward. You order with the cashier and then they give you a number to bring the food out to you. Waiting for food has never taken more than 5 minutes. I typically only order food and skip the drink station though. I enjoy drinking iced coffee (especially in the heat wave that is McAllen, TX) and they don't have iced coffee here. They told me I could ice down the hot coffee, but that just dilutes the coffee and that's not really what I'm looking for. The food here is fantastic though! I usually get the Anaheim Panini without bacon and onions. It's so good! Sometimes I opt for the potatoes as a side. They're really good as well. As a treat, the pumpkin muffin is really tasty too. Corner Bakery Cafe is great with good food, ambiance, and staff. Just wish they would get some iced coffee :( read more

Let me start off with, TERRIBLE customer service. Placed a curbside order, which btw there is no designated parking for curbside. Then called to let them know I had arrived (as instructed on website) and the girl was very rude and that didn't stop on the phone. Woman was rude as well when she delivered the food to the car. I tried the new Bacon avocado egg bowl and I was very disappointed. The eggs were mushy and wet. Of the few avocado pieces present, most of them were rotting/black/oxidized (see pic). Really? A place that "feels like you're in San Antonio?" No McAllen, it's just another chain restaurant in a shopping center that has an outdoor seating area disguised as a neighborhood cafe. I'm not saying that my experience sucked, but it wasn't anything exciting or memorable. I was in a breakfast/brunch mood so I ordered the Anaheim Scrambler which was SUPPOSED to be scrambled eggs with bacon, tomatoes, green onions, cheese and avocado served with potatoes and toast. What actually came out on the plate were dry scrambled eggs with 3 pieces of tomato, maybe 4 chunks of green onion and one piece of bacon hidden in the tough eggs with a few overcooked potatoes on the side. NO cheese & NO avocado & NO toast? Well, I asked the friendly young lady who brought the food if she could bring me the three missing items & after waiting almost 10 minutes, I gave up. Two bites into it, I couldn't finish my food. My sister had to go get me the toast at the front counter because she felt bad for me. I will give it to Corner Bakery Cafe, they try to be cute. The atmosphere is nice & relaxing, a good place for families and easy (ordering at the counter and finding your own seat). The soup that my dad had was pretty good (although you could tell it was poured out of a bag and thrown into the microwave). Came here for a salad. I purchased the Santa Fe. Typical salad. Lots and lots of lettuce. The chicken slices were very skimpy. I guess I expected more protein for an $8.49 salad. I do eat lots of salads. It was chopped perfectly. Very fresh. I asked about the avocado. Not in salad. I guess it's mixed in the dressing? Yes, I would eat it again but would purchase more chicken. I love going to corner bakery! It is definitely a great spot to meet up with friends for lunch. I am a vegetarian so that means I eat no meat products. At corner bakery, the reason I gave them a 4 star, their vegetarian pastas arent actually vegetarian. They have parmesan! Parmesan is made with animal products during their cheese making phase making it not a vegetarian meal. For all the vegetarians out there, ask for no parmesan cheese next time you try them. The pasta is tasty otherwise and the place is clean and the staff is great! read more

I'd give it about 4 stars for atmosphere. It looks inviting and is pretty spacious, considering it is a slot in a strip shopping center. Sadly the food is just mediocre. The soup is not quite hot. The sandwich fillings are good but the bread is still chilled from being in the refrigerator. One time, I ordered the Anaheim Scrambler, one of their signature breakfast dishes. It came without the avocado and without the tomato. Maybe it was because the restaurant was relatively new (had been in business for only 2-3 months) but really, the cooks don't know the menu? Another time I was coming down with a cold and only wanted a bowl of soup with a sandwich. The young woman at the register (which is where you order) would not let me order them together. Even with being willing to pay extra, she said she couldn't do that. What in the world?!?!? That is not how you treat a sick person. It turns out the 'issue' was that the sandwich I wanted was not supposed to come with soup as a side dish option. Good grief, that doesn't make sense. What kind of control freak develops menu 'rules' like that? Maybe now that the place has been open for about half a year, maybe it will get better.
