In a nutshell: great location and parking. Clean dining room. Generally good food, though here it…read moremay be inferior due to management. Serving portions are scant for the price. Service was functional but certainly not exceptional. I love Cajun food and flavors, but I could not remember the last time I'd been to Popeye's, so I stopped for lunch. As you arrive, the building looks well-maintained. I noticed there were very few cars parked even though it was noon. The dining room is a standard fast food style. No particular "ambiance," but an air-conditioned, clean place to sit and eat. When I walked in, there were no customers at the counter, and no one greeted me. Actually, I did not even see any employees at first, but since I needed to read the menu, I took advantage of the opportunity. Within a few moments, an employee arrived at the counter to take my order. Popeye's main menu feature is their fried chicken, regular or spicy. They also offer chicken sandwiches, wings, tenders, and popcorn shrimp. They also serve biscuits, and their sides include cole slaw, red beans and rice, mac and cheese, fries, and mashed potatoes with gravy. They offer a few desserts like fried apple pies, oreo cheesecake or strawberry cheesecake cups. I got the spicy chicken meal, which comes with a biscuit and a side. I chose the red beans and rice for my side. My chicken was well cooked and delicious. It came with a wing, thigh, and leg, which apparently came from a not-very-big chicken. I could have easily eaten the four-piece meal. I guess the tiny wing counted as "white meat." The red beans and rice were served in a small cup with was only filled 60%, so I got about four tablespoonfulls of mostly rice. I don't understand why they are so tight-fisted with their red beans and rice... come on, it's literally beans and rice, two of the cheapest ingredients. If there was any sausage in it for flavor, I did not see it. To their credit, the beans had a wonderful flavor, but the beans to rice ratio was pitiful, mostly rice. I wonder if their other sides are as sparse. I paid $12.44 for a 3-piece, fast-food meal and left feeling like I'd been cheated. The biscuit I was served was not their best. I've had their biscuits before, and they were light, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. This one was tough, like they stirred the dough way too long. I did not finish it as it was just not fresh nor enjoyable... I can only guess that since there were so few customers, they were trying to sell off food that had been sitting a while. Drinks are typical sel-served soft drinks and fresh brewed iced tea. The iced tea is good. I would try Popeye's again, but probably only at a different location.

We were so excited to try a new Korean chicken place and this was such a let down…read more The chicken is very plain and unseasoned. There is nothing Korean about it. It is chicken you can get from any other chicken place. It is freshly made, but that is the only positive I have for the chicken. We tried the strips which were dry and the wings. 2/5 We tried the soy garlic and red hot spicy sauces. The soy garlic was an okay processed sauce. The red hot smelled and tasted like it is ketchup based, so for me, gross! It was supposed to be really spicy and it was not. 1/5 The curly fries were hot, fresh, and seasoned well. 4/5 The mandu was store bought gyoza and it did not come with a dipping sauce as mandu usually does. 2/5 The lunch special was a good price but otherwise this is definitely overpriced. If you are ever in the San Antonio area, try Pelicana, it's AMAZING Korean chicken.

My favorite spot in town for Korean fried chicken!…read more Kiri Kiri never disappoints. The chicken is always made to order, so I usually order ahead on Toast to save time. I always get half garlic soy and half sweet & spicy--both perfectly crispy, flavorful, and super fresh. Their fried gizzards are amazing, and the pickled radish is the perfect refresh to go with everything. If you love Korean fried chicken, this place is a must. Consistently delicious, great portions, and worth every bite!
