Many things happened since my last review. One was moving to the valley a few years ago and dining at Pho Le Lai on multiple occasions since it was close to us. I've noticed negative things I experienced changed. The pho is good, not homemade, but decent. :) the rice plate gotten better! Bbq pork is flavorful and juicy! The nuoc mam is very good. LOVE the egg rolls and my son loves it! I usually order 2 orders of egg rolls for him so my husband and I can have some too. Overall I'm glad we have a Vietnamese restaurant less than 3 mins away! read more

The interior was pleasant, waitress was delightful, Vietnamese eggrolls were delicious, the noodle dish E ordered was flavorful and my pho broth and vegetable toppings were just fine. What wasn't fine was the taste and texture of the seafood in my seafood pho. When the waitress asked how we liked our meal I mentioned that the seafood did not taste fresh. She suggested that maybe I just don't like squid. I assured her that I'm fine with squid when it is fresh and prepared correctly, but this tasted freezer-burned and the texture was off. She left to talk to a manager. Instead of addressing the problem the manager sent the waitress back with a plate upon which there was a selection of thawed seafood to show me that their seafood is indeed fresh. I'm not sure how thawed seafood indicates freshness. All it proved to me was that I'd rather give my business to a place that acknowledges a problem and takes action. read more

Alright, so after several times coming back here, I have to change the rating that I gave them. First of, the price is still higher than I'd normally pay for Vietnamese food. The food still takes a lil while to come out. However, they are irresistible. I came to that conclusion tonight after fueling myself with more than enough booze, not enough decent food the last few days. I was in desperate need to carb up or at least eat some decent food. My appetite has been gone the same time I realized I like booze more than food at this point. So if I was gonna force feed myself, I need to find at least something I love. So pho it is! Pho Le Lai to be exact! It was way out of my way, but I didn't mind. That's when I really realized I'm in love with Pho Le Lai.... Secondly, the service there is always on point. One of the servers almost always remembers what I want, since I get the same thing every time. They are always friendly, upbeat, extremely prompt. The kind of attitude that you can only find at Starbucks where the baristas have inhaled and drunk too much coffee that they're always in good mood and hyper. It's extremely rare to get this good of customer service at an Asian restaurant, especially Vietnamese. On the other hand, the cook and possibly also the owner, is not that friendly at all. Good thing I never had to deal with him. Only seen his borderline straight/grumpy face whenever he goes to the front to get a drink. Last but not least, the very few food items I have tried here have been very good. They definitely don't skim on the vegetable, which I reallyyyy appreciate. Honestly no redeeming quality in this visit. Called ahead of time for a to go order, excited to get the delicious spring rolls and peanut sauce mentioned on Yelp. Nope. Peanut sauce discontinued and they have fish sauce with the spring rolls now... what?! They told me it would take 15-20 minutes for my to go order of chicken pad thai. It took them 35 minutes. Seriously??? I was late for my meeting and they didn't even offer a free water or anything for my excessive wait. I was hoping the wait would at least be worth it but that was the weirdest and worst chicken pad thai EVER! It was like spicy red chili based or something instead of peanut sauce based. Not tasty at all and so spicy. It was so bad I threw most of it away, and that never happens. I would never eat here again! read more

I'm not a huge Pho fan, but we are on a low carb program right now, the wife was next door getting her nails done and I was hungry so I stopped in. I wanted to eat in my truck so asked for the food to go. A bit of a challenge for Pho. But, they packaged everything up perfectly. I got a combo without noodles (I know, it's strange, but - low carb) and without tripe. The broth was good as was the rest of the ingredients. I slowly added items to the broth and ate away. For a Vietnamese owned Pho restaurant this is a poor attempt to try and fool people on how Pho really taste. Given the fact that I am Vietnamese and have had plenty of Pho throughout my life and ate at tons of Pho restaurants in the middle of no where, I understand not to judge Pho restaurants based on my nationality and how Pho should actually taste, and especially in places with 1% Vietnamese population, this is by far the worst Pho restaurant in Beef Pho SoupsTexas. The broth was bland, tasted like water, the steak, flank brisket and meatballs tasted old. Owner couldn't even leave the Hoison & Siracha sauce on the table, had to pay extra for a tiny size togo sauce cup. Really? Unacceptable for a young vietnamese owned "Pho Restaurant". Ya'll could've at least bought the instant Pho packets and used it as the base for the broth, it would've tasted better. Gotta hand it to you though, you totally fooled the 4-5 star reviews on Yelp. Yeah I know, ANOTHER 5 star review, but hear me out...this place deserves it so bad. The valley is usually hot all year round, but for Pho Le Lai, everyday is pho day! The Asian cuisine in the RGV is average, but here the pho is the best in the valley! I just can't get enough of this place. I usually get the chicken pho when coming here and it's always hot and delicious! The chicken is so hearty and the soup is extremely flavorful. Their specialty is pho and it's fantastic but, to be really honest..the best thing in their menu is the Pork Shu Mai. The pork is absolutely incredible and whoever folded the shu mai has the hands of an angel. I haven't been here in almost two years, but I still remember how legendary it was. Even though I can't have it now, all I can do is recommend it to you guys! Try to come here early for the shu mai, they run out so fast. Believe me though when I say it's magical and hope you get to try it when coming here. Overall, Pho Le Lai is the best Vietnamese restaurant in the valley. The cost is relatively cheap and if you are at all sick or just hungry, come here when you can. You won't be disappointed! read more

The pho is delicious, and I will definitely be going back. The portions are generous. I stopped here with my mother, and we both order pho. We loved it so much we called my dad to drive over and join us for lunch. The side of bean sprouts, jalapeno, cilantro, and other vegetables were so fresh and crisp. The hot oil was great as well. Immediately I noticed the noodles were not the usual sticky noodles, they were also pretty thin compared to other places. The taste of the broth was also very different from what I'm use to. Went here to take care of my Vietnamese food craving. Anyway, I ordered the Singaporean Chicken Noodles. One of my favorite dishes right there! It didn't take long to come out as there weren't many people in the restaurant. The meal was full of flavor and contained lots of chicken. It also has a great spicy kick which I really liked! I couldn't finish it all and took it home. Now for why only 3 stars. While eating the dish, I noticed that every now and then I was crunching on something that seemed like the veggies weren't cleaned. At first, I paid it no mind. It wasn't until I had the left overs later on when I crunched down on a piece of sand that confirmed what I had suspected. That was it for me. I trashed the rest. read more
