Had several appetizers (homemade dumplings, spring rolls, potstickers, and calamari). Overall, all were good, the spring rolls were a little overcooked and the homemade dumplings were a little too smooshy for my liking. But good. Decided to have the Pad Key Mao (drunken noodles) with pork and boy I'm glad I did because It was delicious. I didn't want to go extremely hot but went with medium and definitely wished I went higher but nothing that wasn't a deal breaker. If you're on a time crunch I wouldn't recommend as there seems to only be one waiter who was the cashier as well. I stopped by for dinner and ordered the small Tom Yum Chicken soup, Pad See Ew with beef, and mango sticky rice for dessert. Everything was outstanding from start to finish. The Tom Yum soup was perfectly balanced--spicy, tangy, and packed with flavor. It had tender chicken, fresh herbs, and just the right amount of heat to warm you up without being overwhelming. The Pad See Ew was equally impressive. For dessert, the mango sticky rice was a perfect finish--sweet, creamy coconut sticky rice paired with ripe, juicy mango slices. Thought we give another try today This place is no Bueno !!! This is not Thai authentic cooking / Food. I guess frying up a spring roll , egg roll or pot sticker says Thai -ish for the area . But when it comes to specific dishes Every time it's done differently. The Pad Thai is terrible spaghetti noodles one time maybe a rice noodle the next . Zero bean sprouts, crushed cashews it's just plain terrible. Rice dishes are old rice lumpy balled up I don't know what , 3 pieces of chicken zero basil I guess she said they use a basil condiment which explains the green tint to the rice and zero vegetables . One thing to make clear...I am no Thai food expert, so it's hard for me to critique the food on quality however, this is still my experience. I took my wife here...they seem to close really early, like mid-afternoon early. We got there right at closing time however they still took our orders, so kudos to them. My wife and I really weren't too sure on the food so we asked the waitress and we ordered based off her recommendations. We both ordered noodle bases dishes...did they taste how they're supposed to? Honestly not sure... however the cook on the pasta was perfect. The noodles didn't taste bland and they had good consistency. The beef that accompanied the noodles was nicely seasoned. The shining star on the menu which deserves 5 stars on its own was the fried banana. My wife had an urge for a dessert...and we decided to try out the fried banana...DYNAMITE. It was paired with ice cream...it was a perfect combination of sweet with some tartness, not to mention the contrast between the hot and cold of the ice cream with the banana. I told my wife I would come back just to have dessert any day of the week... It was my first time visiting and it won't be my last! The restaurant is small but has a nice vibe to it. The server was quick to take our orders and very attentive too! I went with their N3. Chicken Pad Sew Iew, chili level 2. They offer other options such as beef, shrimp, tofu and pork. I got chili level 2 and personally I couldn't even taste it, so I'll go for level 3 next time. The pad sew iew consisted of stir fried flat rice noodles with vegetables, egg, and sweet soy sauce. I hadn't had rice noodles before but man were they delicious! Food has no flavor and curry dishes don't have sauce (according to Alex the server), Ordered Tom Kha Soup with chicken and the broth tasted like water. My Red curry had no curry sauce/gravy. The staff could not offer compensation for the two dishes and we ordered 5 dishes an 2 spring rolls. The spring rolls were good despite being cold and having to be heated and the Pad Kee Mao not much flavor either but better than the soup or dry Red curry dish. The portions were much smaller than expected I almost thought I was given a lunch portion but that is not what I was upset about. If a customer is not satisfied always try to make it right. I was told, "We will let your grievances be known" I asked about offering to refund two dishes (Tom Kha Soup and the Red Curry) was told they couldn't authorize. The owner is at a nursing conference and won't be back till next week and they will reply to me when they can. I also asked if they could just offer to remake and that also was not an option as Alex said that he checked the food and it was prepared as it should be and everyone has different tastes buds. Well I searched a healthy option on yelp and Thai Red appeared. We came in, lovely set up. UNFORTUNATELY, the food was NOOOO BUENO! My partner ordered a pasta (she didn't want healthy, lol) It was awful it tasted like Campbell's soup. I honestly think they poured my left over Tom Yum broth in her pasta. It was absolutely disgusting and we asked for some more spices it definitely didn't help at all. I am not one to put salt on my meal but mine was kinda flavorless as well. This restaurant is authentic. That being said, they should know better. I ordered to go and the first time I did back in 2019, I thought they were just rushed and it might had been a bad day, since I got a plate with mostly noodles, very little chicken and very little vegetables. I ordered the same thing yesterday since it had been a while since I ordered there but the same thing happened again yesterday except with even a more poor presentation.The price they charge DOES NOT match the quality nor the amount they serve. I'm a really good cook so I hardly eat out however sometimes I'd be nice to be able to count on restaurants for quality, sadly it's not the case with Thai red Chillis. I brought a customer here for dinner, who is a vegetarian, and he was extremely pleased with the restaurant choice, and absolutely loved his dinner. The locals could not recommend anything; so a little digging on line, and voila - we're at the Thai Chili Pepper. The environment is a bit 80s (the furniture could use an update - but I did not come here for the furniture), but the smells were so inviting. There were 6 of us, hungry after a long day's work... some never tasted Thai, yet all of us were ready for a delicious dinner. After a round of cold beers, we started with an appetizer sampler and a large lemongrass shrimp soup for all. Both were very delicious. we followed by numerous individual orders: pad Thai, vegan curry, and various beef and seafood dishes. I will vouch that everything I tasted was drenched with favor, enhanced with rich spices, perfectly prepared, with a lovely presentation. Even though there was only one server and a number of Parties seated, the service was not delayed and was friendly. We were in a group of four and all of us ordered a different dish. We all agreed that the food was pretty bland. I ordered my dish 3 out of 4 on the heat scale but it was not spicy at all. The wife's dish lacked flavor and the sauce was very runny. Thai Red was in a strip center and on the small side. Decor was a little tired looking but ok. Our serving plates were made of Melamine and showed wear on the edges and looked dingy at best. Our waiter was new and not very attentive or helpful with questions. We eat a lot of Thai and overall we're pretty underwhelmed. We will not return to Thai Red. read more

3 stars for food, 4 stars for service! Okay so normally I'd be wary of a Thai restaurant in south Texas at which you can order both Pad Thai and Fettuccine Alfredo. But Thai Red Chili's seems to pull it off! I have been here twice on visits to McAllen, and can recommend the yellow curry as well as the noodle dishes. The summer rolls, when on special, are a creative twist on the traditional Vietnamese dish. My only disappointment was with the cream cheese wontons, which include minced chicken -- a combination I'm not sure really works, and serving fried wontons that are anything less than fresh and hot can be kind of a bummer. I've never been here when it's been busy, and so I've enjoyed friendly, helpful service on each visit. This is definitely a go-to spot in McAllen for Thai food, and I will definitely be back! read more

Considering that this is the only Thai restaurant in the valley, the food is fantastic. I have been coming here for 4 years and I can not recall 1 bad meal. I usually stick with the Red Curry but the Pad Thai and Tom Ka Kai soup are ridiculously good as well. I was disappointed in this restaurant, though since it is pretty much the only thai option, I give it 2 stars instead of 1. In a larger city with more thai options this would undoubtedly be a lower rating from me. First, I went for lunch and had a simple curry, so perhaps they excel at other dishes, but this was very mediocre. I had the panang curry, which came with a bland egg roll with a very bad sweet dipping sauce. The curry itself was fine and I ate it, but I would not return to this restaurant to eat this dish. Just boring. The soup. Oh my god, what the heck is up with the soup they serve before the meal? It is a tomato-based canned vegetable soup with some chicken and cilantro thrown in. Love me some Thai Red Chili's! Their presentation of the dishes is always superb and service was great on the evening that we dined there. For a large group of about 20+ people, they accommodated us very well and even took photos of our group before we left. Can you say casting party, wooo! :) I love that they brought us a wine chiller to stick our bottle of wine in, a very classy touch. I had the cashew chicken and have been experiencing extreme cravings for that super delicious dish! It had a very nice smoky flavor to it that was just divine! The pad Thai was pretty authentic looking, swimming in bean sprouts and crushed peanuts. Their massaman curry dish with chicken was also pretty tasty. I was able to try some of their pad key mao off of a friends plate and that dish was very good also. You could just taste the robust flavor of the basil, it was great! I love that their menu has pictures, I can definitely see this helping the first-time Thai restaurant-goer. Prices are your usual Thai restaurant prices, but if you are on a flexible budget then you may want to check out their lower-priced lunch specials. I've tried and tried to like Thai Red Chili, considering it's the ONLY Thai restaurant in town... I just can't do it. I have had a lot of good Thai food in my day, and the food here doesn't even come close. I can't speak to the meat dishes, but the vegetarian curries I've tried have been soupy and one-dimensional, with canned corn and mushrooms. Bleh. The pad thai is fine, but nothing spectacular. I found the lunch pad Thai at a level three to be very tasty. I would order level 4 next time. My mother had the green curry lunch special at a level 2 and it was too spicy for her. She did enjoy the orange sauce and it cut some of the heat. The veggie spring rolls were light and airy - I would order an entire appetizer the next time I go.
