If you are a fan of thai food then this place might disappoint you a bit. It is the only thai place in the valley, I believe, so to many is great option from your typical chinese buffets and fast food chains. The thai fried rice was bland and meat we picked was dry. The pad thai had no bean sprouts!!! How can pad thai be pad thai without bean sprouts? The pad see ew noodles were also a bit hard, should be more soft base on my other visits on other thai places. However the panang curry and tom yum soup was okay. Soup would of been better with a white fish type rather than salmon. Service was good and owners were nice. Will i be coming back? Most likely for curry and maybe to try dessert. read more

We're glad there is a Thai restaurant in town now. We enjoyed our food and the service and atmosphere were great. But...the food could have been better seasoned. The Tom Yum soup lacked lime leaves--which I thought were essential. And it's not as if they are an exotic, hard-to-find ingredient. Many people grow lime trees in their backyards here. So I used my tiny wedges of lime (came with my drink) to add some juice to perk up the flavor. The Masaman curry was good but needed more flavor, such as from more coconut milk. We enjoyed our meal but something was lacking. It seemed the cooks were holding something back, perhaps not wanting to be too strong for local tastes? One last thing: a restaurant that charges $10 and more for entrees should use a better quality of dishes. Melamine (plastic) is perhaps acceptable for cheap restaurants but this is not a cheap restaurant. Please use stoneware, at least. read more

I absolutely enjoy Thai food so when I found out there was a Thai place in the Valley, I had to go try out. The food is great! I come here at least once a month now and get the Red Curry or Yellow curry and ask them to put pineapple in it. The Pad Thai is also very delicious! It's never really busy unless you come during lunch hour, and even then it's not that packed. If you want to try something different and delicious that's not pricey, give Thai Red a try! You won't be disappointed. Oh also their spiciness scale is 1-5, 5 being the spiciest. If you like really spicy I recommend you get a 3 or 4. read more

Their service is consistently good and they are one of he better Thai restaurants here in the Edinburg/McAllen, and Pharrell area. Dined here for dinner tonight. The food lacked flavor and did not taste like how it's suppose to. This was my first time eating here and my husband hasn't been here in years he said. We ordered what we would usually order from a Thai restaurant, pad see ew (lew at this restaurant), panang curry, and beef satay. The Panang curry did not taste like panang, tasted more like masaman. My pad se ew was wet, it's supposed be a stir fry noodle. The beef satay was bland and flavorless and came with a green coconut curry dip instead of a peanut sauce. I'm willing to give this restaurant another chance at a later date, but not having any high hopes. read more

So disappointed!! The quality of the food has declined severely. My husband and I ordered take out from here last night. We used to love this place but it had been awhile since we had eaten here. I ordered something that was supposed to be Chicken Pad Thai. It was flavorless and not spicy at all. Pad tai is supposed to be spicy! Also, since when does it have cabbage and not bean sprouts?! And where was the chicken??? My husband ordered the chicken Pad Se Lew which had very little chicken in it & the only vegetables in the dish were a few, and I mean a few, tiny broccoli pieces & carrots. But the worst part of his dish was that it tasted charged/burned! Sadly, Will never go back. read more

This is really good Thai food. I had the pad Thai, and it was yum! I also tried the Mango sticky rice and this was the most authentic out of the two dishes- two thumbs up! The Sevice was cordial and very casual. The food served on a timely manner. Not easy to find an amazing Thai restaurant in the valley but this is by far the best in the area. read more

Pretty darn good. No longer open on Sundays. Thursday's panang curry is always a good choice. The pad wun sin is very tasty too.

Food was terrible, not fresh and they seem to LOVE salt!. Ordered Pad Key Mao and Pad Num Mun Hoy on recommendation by the waitress. Was extremely disappointed. The Pad Num Mun Hoy was dried out (tasted old) meat that was cooked with a few chunks of tomatoes and mushrooms. The Pad Key Mao was reconstituted rice noodles with very little veggies. All I tasted was salt, some basil, and noodles. Very disappointed and sent it back. They remade the dish with some more veggies but it was still extremely salty. The only good thing about that dish was the few pieces of chicken. Overall, I was extremely disappointed and did not get the complexity of flavors I would expect from Thai food. I just do not understand why they were so heavy handed with salt and extremely light on the veggies. I have never had thai food like this! read more

Their delivery food was absolutely terrible! The takeout box is partitioned three ways so that not much food can be put in. The food is so oily that it's all congealed after one night in the fridge. The noodles were all clumped together and wasn't actually mixed with the vegetables and meat. It took them over 1.5 hours to deliver. Never order takeout from here! read more

They don't give you enough food in your plate and charge waaaay too much. I have always ordered the Drunken Noodles and they don't add vegetables. This is the only place I've been that charges extra for vegetables. I don't mind paying but they only add two pieces of broccoli. They take advantage because they know that they may be the only ones in the valley. Le Lai is just as good, and less expensive. read more

For those of you living here in the Valley, you have no idea how fortunate we are to have some decent Thai food in McAllen. I've eaten at many a Thai restaurant, worked at my fair share, lived in the homeland (Lampang) and one abiding truth exists: not all Thai food is equal. This is not standardized chain fare. Every recipe is subject to the region from which its (preferably) Thai owners derive and from their conception of what Americans desire. That said, fundamental elements of good Thai cooking--in the U.S or in Thailand--can be detected in select dishes. For many folks, the go-to dish for such a test is pad-Thai. And certainly the pad-Thai here is decent. However, a much more accurate test of fundamentals is better found in a dish with less acidity, one that is not subject to the spell that tamarind sauce has on fans of pad Thai. That dish, pad see ew, which also lacks the punch of intense spices that other stir-fry dishes and curries have, is perfectly exhibited at Thai Red Chili's. The flavor of the wok or pan in which it is cooked comes through as smokey, rich, and sweet, resulting in an overall savoriness that, at this restaurant, pervades every noodles and every dish. Sure, not all that glitters is gold and not every shimmering review means that you personally will like the food. Nor should you. However, when the fundamentals are sound, the chances of your enjoyment are increased. Give it a try or say goodbye, this ain't your grandma's apple pie. read more

I visited on a Thursday night. The place is very clean with a nice, relaxing atmosphere. My dinner consisted of the A12 soft rolls and the green curry with chicken. The soft rolls were sort of cooked, with a mild curry sauce poured like gravy. It was OK, i probably won't order again. The Curry consisted of typical green curry sauce, and had peas and jalapenos as the primary vegetables. There were probably 2 whole jalapenos cut up and cooked, but seeds were not removed. I ordered a 3 of 4 spicy, it was. The jalapenos really limited the Curry spice, too bad, because it could have been better without them, and with more traditional Thai ingredients. It was Thursday night after 8 (they close at 9), and I think that the rice had been cooked quite a while. It was WAY overcooked, almost pasty. All that said, it was OK, and I might be back if I'm starving for Thai. The waitress was very sweet, and her service was top notch. read more

Sorry but when even the Pad Thai is not good there is a problem. It was so dry & tasteless. Would not get again. Also the Tom Kha soup did not even resemble what it should taste like. Very sad meal. We received this food as a take out order. We called to tell the restaurant of our disappointment. No apology what so ever. The person just claimed that they stand by their food. Hello customer service?? Maybe they need to go try another restaurants Pad Thai & Tom Kha soup to taste what they should be. I would not recommend this Thai restaurant to anyone.
