Special combination rice noodle soup with tenderloin, brisket, meatballs and tendon
    Laura C.

My family was craving some pho, and since our usual spot was closed, we decided to try somewhere new and we're so glad we did! This place is a hidden gem. It's small but still feels spacious, with a cozy, homey vibe that makes it feel truly authentic. The service was wonderful! Everyone we spoke to was kind, attentive, and helpful. We started with the vegetable egg rolls, which had the perfect crunch and great flavor. My husband and mom both ordered the special combination pho with tenderloin, brisket, meatballs, and tendon, and they couldn't stop raving about it. I went with the vermicelli with grilled pork and egg rolls, and it was absolutely delicious. Everything was super flavorful and fresh. We'll definitely be back

    Chicken and Noodles Pho

First time to this restaurant, wanted to try the food out especially since there were some good comments. We entered and were greeted from a distance by a waitperson to sit wherever we wanted. They soon brought menus, silverware and took our drink order and later returned to take our food order. We had two different waiters bring our drinks, condiments and food. We had 3 different sauce cups brought to us; we asked what they were for, the waiter told us but we had a hard time understanding him. The food was good, my husband liked the chicken and noodles pho and I got something similar to a bun with shrimp and stir fried vegetables with very little and subtle flavor. I was told one of the sauce cups was to be poured into the dish. The vegetable rolls were hardly filled and somewhat greasy. The restaurant was lightly decorated with an Asian flare and music in the background; I would recommend it to be turned down just a tad. There was a customer's baby crying almost the entire time we were there.

Food was good, but the service wasn't. I asked if they could split the soup for sharing, but instead I was given an extra bowl to do it myself. By the time I managed, my food was cold. Overall, not a great experience. I probably won't be a returning customer.

    BEEF NOODLE PHO

Oh, wow. Has it really been three months since I last churned out a five-star review? Pho Houston in the heart of McAllen really broke me out of my funk. My family and I dropped by here during our Thanksgiving weekend excursion to the Rio Grande Valley, and yes, the name had a lot to do with it. As it turned out, the owner(s) moved south from Houston. I've had my fill of Chinese and Japanese cuisine near the border, but it was my first time having Vietnamese far away from home. The beef noodle pho I had on what was a wet, dreary afternoon did its job of keeping my stomach satisfied for the rest of the day. I loved how flavorful and aromatic it was. Everything from the beef chunks to the noodles were fresh. The egg rolls I had beforehand were an excellent way to start lunch. Since we head toward these parts every year when the weather is cooperative, it's likely a second visit in the future will happen.

Pho broth is really nice. It's not too sweet like other Pho restaurants. The original Pho flavor should not be sweet. The portion is pretty small. The Pho noodle is ok, it's not well done. Meat and topping are decent. Vermicelli and fish sauce are decent but nothing to blow me away. They don't honor the check-in on Yelp, but it's a mom-and-pop shop. I don't think they manage their Yelp page. Probably someone helped them to create the page and never updated it.

    #7 beef pho

Place came highly recommended and so we stopped by for dinner. We were greeted and seated immediately. It's a cute Mom & Pop stop. I was also reassured as there were other Asians dining there! There were plenty of tables full of dirty dishes waiting to be cleaned. The place was moderately full. We got our drink order in right away. We ordered spring rolls and pho. I had the beef and my hubby had a shrimp/pork pho. The spring rolls were delicious. Not convinced that they're home made, but good nonetheless. I do appreciate that Hubby and I got our own sauce to dip. We didn't have to share, which I liked more than I expected. My beef pho was good. It has a lot of hot broth. Noodles were more al dente than I preferred. The beef was generous with the flank steak and meatballs. The broth was good, but I've had better. Maybe it was late and the broth got watered down, but it lacked depth and the flavors weren't balanced. I tried my hubby's pho, which uses a different broth. I believe it was chicken based, but it was lighter and smoother. It was more delicate and rich. I would've preferred that one and would have probably enjoyed it more. Next time I'll try their vermicelli or another pho

My face is on fire(in a good way) and my belly is full! I enjoyed it. Best Pho so far in the Valley. I agree with the other review about the sweetness of the broth. I want that rich, beefy, I spent three days making the broth flavor. Can only give a 3.6 star rating. Portion was just right.

This place is good. Was visiting from another town but this spot tastes like home. Staff is friendly.

Spring rolls were extremely tiny compared to chopsticks. The pho is good but don't order any sides not worth the price imo

I noticed one of the cooks was using a dining room table to prepare vegetables while watching a video on her phone. The lady who took my order at the front counter also played the role of server. The counter was cluttered. When I walked in, no one acknowledged me for a few minutes. The lady was talking to someone - whether a friend or client I could not tell. When he left, she finally turned to me and asked if I wanted take-out or dine in. I can't say she was either welcoming nor friendly, but once I stated my intentions were to dine in she led me to a table and handed me the menu. Xin Xin does not have a buffet. But that ensures that everything is made fresh as you order it. They offer dine in, take out, and have a drive through window. Their menu is pretty extensive with Vietnamese, Japanese, and Chinese entrees.. some of which I have never heard and would need coaching to pronounce. I wanted something more familiar, and ordered the Triple Delight lunch special. The lunch special came with my choice of soup, and either white or fried rice. I ordered the hot and sour soup and fried rice. The lunch special portion was generous but I was hungry and finished it all. I can't say the food quality stood out as extra special, but it was very good and I enjoyed it. The Triple Delight was supposed to have beef, chicken, and shrimp, but I did not detect any beef. There was plenty of the chicken and shrimp. The menu lists beverages as canned soft drinks, a couple of juices like coconut or lychee, and hot or iced tea. I asked the server if the iced tea was fresh brewed and she assured me it was. When she brought out a bottle of Gold Peak sweet iced tea I wondered if she knew enough English to understand my question and what "fresh brewed" means... The Gold Peak was decent, but not the same as fresh brewed. My experience with the service and ambience was lacking. The drink was also a little disappointing. The food, however was very good and the prices were reasonable. Considering the competition, they need to up their game if they want my business.

Person behind the counter was not much help in recommendations. Seems you pay for everything separately. Pieces of corn, pieces of potatoes, sausage halves, shellfish by the pound. Clams were on the overhead menu, was told they don't offer those. Got past that and had asked for sweet tea. Well it came out not sweet. Once the food appeared which I will say was. Way quick we started our finger food adventure. Ordered both shrimp and crawfish. Seems like a lot of work to have to tear heads off shrimp, shell and de-vain. Won't more you with the rest. Quality of the food was not what you would expect from a restaurant that specializes in Cajun Cuisine. Last but not least, wear and tear is very evident especially in the restrooms.
