4/6/2024, We ordered a couple of burger combos, first thing you notice is the greasy bag they come in. Fries are dripping in grease, and burgers were not seasoned and tased very bland. All the tables in the place were dirty, with food and flies on every empty table. We had to clean our own table, which was broken and very wobbly. Food and garbage on the floor, and especially under the tables. I've lived here over 20 years, and I have never seen it this bad, it is really sad to see how this once great place, has become a place to avoid. read more

When in town this is a must! I came here after seeing the reviews and was immediately impressed to what others were saying. Upon me entering the restaurant, you get this immediate feeling of "old school" burger joint. All the retro games that are there for your enjoyment while you wait is a very nice touch. I ended up ordering a Starlight Burger combo with chili cheese fries. My burger and fries were made fresh to order, though I wish the patty was a little thicker, but no complaints. The burger was seasoned and cooked perfectly. With the tangy mustard, stout onions and sweet tomatoes all adding to the amazing flavor. Now let's get to the chili cheese fries. I am a fanatic for chili cheese fries. This was probably one of the best I've had in a while. Not only did the chili and cheese cover the entire portion of fries, but it mixed and cohered like Jack and Rose from Titanic, until I came along and tore it apart. There are few places left from my childhood that I can still say I go to. Mostly cuz they are all gone. But Starlight burger has been serving burgers to hungry folks in the barrio since the 1970s. Nothing special about the burger ingredients. Standard burger patties and standard buns. But they do them like the old days. Fries are hand cut and fresh. If you expect McDonald style shoestring potatoes you will be sorely disappointed. I had not been in this place for over 15 years, I went today and it is exactly the way I use too be. I order the burger combo with chocolate milkshake and it was so good, just like the good old days :). My mother had the chicken burger and we were very surprised how big, thick and juicy it is. I try her strawberry shake and it was amazing, I don't like strawverry at all, but this shake is really good. Great service too. I've been coming to Startlite for years. Since I was like 14 years old. I once made an order and fell asleep so forgot to pick it up. Today, ordered a chilli cheese foot long, I have COVID I was asleep. I woke up placed a single order. I didn't know my son wasn't here I called and asked what time they close so I could see if anyone could pick it up for me, the manager or owner who ever it was said he will never sell to me again and hung up on me. Poor management for sure. He didn't even give me a chance to tell him that I'm sick and that I couldn't go for it for that reason. read more

Went back after I didn't have a great experience, and 39 days later, I notice a big difference the French Fries were not a greasy as last time. Still prefer Lighter color and softer fries, but a huge improvement The chicken pieces are slightly bigger. Good job Starlite for improving the french fries.Look forward to trying the burgers my next visit. read more

This place has the best burgers in town but it could use some renovations aside from that it is really good.

The food was raw and under cooked. Showed it to the "manager" but because we cut in half to show him it was raw he did not want to refund us our money. We didn't take a single bite. His excuse was "if the burger is raw why would you even cut it?" Be cautious, this is the first place I know that doesn't do something when they are clearly in the wrong. Well, Starlite has always made everyone happy. The food is simple. The burgers are simple, home-style. Nothing fancy. Their flavor reminds me of Whataburger. Love the fries-they're not overly friend and crispy like most places. They are homely fries but delicious nonetheless. I love to ask for a cup of nacho cheese to dip them in. They recently upgraded the decor and now looks more like a 50's style burger diner. They have cute vintage dining sets that looks straight out from Grease.There are old-fashioned tin advertisements on the wall, mostly Coca-Cola, adding to the old-timey vibe to the place. They also added milkshakes to the menu. I was very tempted to try a huckleberry ice cream shake, but next time for sure. Check out the mint-green milkshake maker. Such a great place. You can never go wrong with a burger, fries and a coke from this place. They have delicious nachos. I had a bad experience ordering chicken wings from this location. That doesn't keep me away. I've lived in this area for over 30 years and never before had I eaten here though I'd heard about it often and driven past it from time to time. Last night I passed by and saw their burgers were on sale for $1.79 and thought "why not?" I was not disappointed. The place is very old but cozy and reminds me of an old diner. The burgers were outstanding - delicious and very similar in taste to Stars. I am only knocking off 1 star because the guy that took my order was grumpy and unhelpful. Dude if you hate your job so much - leave. Also it took a little too long for the food to come out. I'll definitely be back, glad I finally tried this place. read more

i'd never been here before until this friday may 24, 2019 and I have the say this is the first place other than wallbangers that has buns that are big and delicious with the meat being juicy. I had gotten a bacon cheeseburger with extra pickles and when they say extra they aren't kidding the pickle amount was just right not one or two pickles but over 5 which I love. The fries however were a little too soggy for me but we're still good. So thank you for the experience. read more

I moved from Edinburg to McAllen and had family over yesterday. I ordered 20 pcs of their fried chicken thinking it was the same as the Starlite in Edinburg. It couldn't be further from the truth. Even though I specifically told them to make sure it was freshly made, it was dry and tough like it had been sitting under the heating lamp and was flavorless. It was so bad, I ended up ordering pizza instead. Next time, I will go all the way to the Edinburg Starlite. They do not disappoint. read more
