This included egg roll, soup, entree and rice. I had the hot and sour soup to start. It was full of ingredients, and was indeed hot and slightly sour. It would have been nice to have some crispy win ton strips to add, but I very much liked the soup. They bring sweet and sour sauce out with your plate for the egg roll. The egg roll was flavorful, but not as crispy as I would like. I opted for steamed rice and had the orange chicken. The chicken was saucy but nice size chunks. Good bits of orange peel in the dish. Not overly spicy. It was a good portion for the lunch menu. I would eat here again for sure. read more

I'm a noodle girly and picky about my noodles. I like good flavor and a good amount of it. It had a hint of spice but I like that. My girlfriend got the sweet and sour chicken. My son about stole that from her and I thought about it. It was good. It's served with pineapples and the classic red sauce. Red 40 bad but sauce tasty. Drinks: we got water and she said Dr Pepper was good. No complaints there. Service: wasn't very busy but the waiter was very polite and visited often. Honestly pretty legit. Authentic Chinese food and quick service. Also legit Chinese usually has polarizing reviews lol. Lots of 1 stars because of stuff that has nothing to do with flavor. More or less a basic menu with plenty of American Chinese stuff like "general tso's" or "kung pao" chicken but when ordering stuff like mapo tofu/cha siu/noodle dishes they do a great job and I really enjoy it. Best Chinese food in McAllen. This place has authentic Chinese food. The ingredients are fresh. and the taste is true to what I grew up with. Don't skip out on this restaurant. The service is kind. They are prompt in seating you, taking your order, and bringing out the food. The inside is pretty spacious and can seat about 10 parties. There's also an extension to the restaurant that is closed off normally. It looks like it can be used for a large banquet when necessary. Went for the first time today and the lady that attended us and took our order was the owner, she was very sweet and so welcoming, she gave great recommendations as well. Recently visited with a friend. Menu is huge and kind of intimidating. I chose garlic chicken. It was delish with fried rice. The omen looked really good as well. The restaurant blooms small and tables are pretty crowded. The whole place needs a good deep cleaning and some updating. Our waitress did t speak English and I had a hard time ordering. The place is tiny, but the portions and flavors are big!! I've dined once and ordered take out once and both were great experiences. The lunch menu has lots of choices and at a good price for what you get. I prefer ordering from the regular menu because you can customize any order to your liking or according to your dietary restrictions. I recently ordered take out and it did not disappoint. Everything was packaged well and the portions were great. At first we thought we were overcharged until we started taking everything out and realized our 2 entrees could have easily fed a family of 5 or 6. The teriyaki chicken was delicious, including the yummy skin. The fried rice was flavorful and not greasy. I had the seafood noodle soup. The broth was nice and spicy and the seafood was well cooked. The only thing I would have changed were the scallops. Because everything was cooked and packaged separately, the scallops had no time to soak up the broth's flavor. A rare find in Chinese food. Everything we had was beautifully cooked and incredibly tasty. Chef must be master of his or her craft. Chicken in the chicken and vegetables was fresh and velvety, demonstrating the proper technique for preparing chicken breast to make it tender. The orange chicken was easily the best we ever tasted. (I almost never give five stars.) Update after another visit Feb 2019: Uh Oh. Things have slipped a bit at Dai Tung. The service was still friendly and attentive, but the chef must have changed or gotten tired. The sauces were the main problem. The chicken with vegetables had a sauce that was much too heavy and brown, overpowering the chicken and vegetables. Same problem with the orange chicken: the sauce was way too dark and pungent--even bitter. The orange flavor was largely lost in the mess. And why not make the side fried rice a little special by adding some egg and vegetables? That couldn't be a high cost item but would be appreciated by customers. Overall, this is probably still the best Chinese restaurant in the Valley, but I think a wakeup call may be needed. read more

No discount was demanded. At the register, they took the ticket and even CHARGED US MORE than the recalculated price!!! This was it. We left without saying a word, paying close to $60 for three dishes and horrible service and food. The Togo food is cold. Dai Tung = Cold food. Not to mention, the owner knows me by name and pretended to not even acknowledge that. That was the worst possible act as an owner. She got mad that I complained (In private) about her horrible attitude. She asked me in the past why her business was failing. I know the answer now. It's her. 9 years ago, not long after moving to Harlingen from Washington state, I heard a radio ad about an Asian restaurant that made it's own sweet and sour sauce - not out of a can. I kept the radio on for a while just to find its name. Dai Tung. We've been making the trip once a months or so ever since. For restaurants with specific cuisines, the first visit is always a standard. With Asian, its sweet and sour chicken and hot and sour soup. Passed with flying colors. Everything you could want then to be with no tinny tastes as if it came out of a can. Sweet and sour sauce generally well balanced. Other things my family can recommend: General Tso's chicken and the salt and pepper shrimp. We've had plenty of other things over the years, but by now its comfort food and we get a standard order. It's a restaurant, run by human beings. We.have had times where food or service is a bit better or a bit worse, but overall, it's consistently among the best we've had in our travels around the country. read more

I have been waiting for a simple order of 3 meals for a full hour. When I arrived at this establishment this evening, which I have frequented before for lunch, it was not at all busy. I was happy that they use white meat for this dish, and the sauce was very tasty, but unfortunately it was on the dry side and didn't quite taste fresh. The fried rice was also just okay - lightly seasoned with nary an onion or telltale egg shred. A fortune-less fortune cookie topped off the meal (no news is good news, right?). I have dined here on multiple occasions. The food is always good. Service is okay but not great. The reason for my 1 star is because they have a horrible management system. On Tuesday of last week I called and asked if we could use their private room on Sunday for a 10 to 15 person reservation and I was told they would. I spoke to a woman with a pronounced Asian accent.
