McAlister's has yet to disappoint when it comes to sandwiches. I took my wife there and the place was fairly empty so service was quick and the area was very clean. After much pondering...I finally decided the spicy Southwest Chicken looked good and my wife ordered herself the McAlister's club. Each sandwich basically checked off all the marks...they tasted fresh. The ingredients felt crisp...they appeared deceivingly small but they were definitely filling. The sides were fairly standard....potato salad and a bag of chips. They were the perfect complements to the sandwiches... Everything was tasty....good service...nearly 5 stars...was there anything lacking? I'll say this: usually my experience is 5 star, but unfortunately - this wasn't one of those times. While the chili was AWESOME, the service and ordering experience left much to be desired. From time of order to seating: 5 minutes. Time from order to serving: 7 minutes. Order: Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken. Bowl of Chili. Croutons on the side. Diet Dr. Pepper. Ordering process: I made sure my order was accurately relayed to the cashier, multiple times. When my receipt was printed, I said, "I ordered the Caesar salad with grilled chicken ... this says 'grilled chicken salad.'" I was assured that it prints that way, but that I would receive a Caesar salad with grilled chicken. While, at this point, I should've known better - I accepted her response. Reason for deduction: Wrong order. Customer service. Weird odor. The server came with the correct order of chili, and the wrong salad order. I informed them that it wasn't correct and I was asked for my receipt. After showing her my receipt, I was told that I ordered the "chicken salad." After needing you explain (again), she left with the wrong order (mumbling something like, "okay I'll be right back"), and the manager returned around 3-5 minutes later with my correct salad. He was polite but did not apologize for the confusion (which I can forgive, considering he may not have known the whole story). There was a weird odor that my friends and I could not identify, but I guess it was likely that it was food that I wasn't accustomed to smelling in the restaurant. Food quality: The salad was fresh, but had several brown pieces (one of which can be seen in the provided picture). Otherwise, the food was good, the dressing was rich, and the croutons came separate as requested. I've been here several times, so maybe today was just somewhat off, I'll be back but I'm hoping I won't have difficulty in getting what I order next time. I had a French dip with added horseradish, and subbed a tortilla soup. Sandwich tasted good but no horse rad, had to ask again for horse rad. Waited finally had to go again to the counter to ask again. ajus was cold, as was soup. Solid 3 stars for a hassle free lunch during the work week! Clean, attentive service, and fresh menu. This sandwich shop is in a busy plaza that you could find everything for your shopping needs. PROS : simple, clean, tasty, fast, and there is something for everyone here. It's s good fill up if you're working and just want to get something tasty without much fuss. The service is fast and friendly. The sides are pretty tasty but nothing that is mind blowing. The sandwiches are a pretty nice size but still your Panera portions so sometimes the pick 2 just won't cut it for me. The cookies are tasty and not thick. The avocado tastes fresh and freshly cut. CONS : nothing is spectacular. I won't be leaving the state wishing I could have McAllister's everywhere I go. The soups aren't bad but again probably your typical frozen batch that are warmed up. If I could put 0 stars I would. Me and my boyfriend went on Sunday and it was not busy. There were 3 girls behind the register/counter and none ever turned around to acknowledge us. The manager had to literally tell them "don't forget the customers behind you" we finally ordered after 10 mins of just standing there. The food also took forever to get to our table. I got the sweet chicken chipotle sandwich and it was so terrible I took one bite and got grossed out it was barbecue sauce and zero chipotle. They also got our soup order wrong when we both asked for potato soup! It was the main reason we even went. The soup was terrible also. Very watery and no flavor. This fast casual restaurant offers far more than most delis, with a large selection of sandwiches, soups, and salads to choose from. I would compare it to a Panera Bread on steroids. I ate here with two college friends, one of whom had already been to this establishment on several occasions as a local. I ordered the Chipotle Chicken Griller sandwich along with a broccoli and cheddar soup and was very satisfied with my meal. The portion size was fairly generous for this type of establishment, certainly more generous than that of Panera Bread or the clones I have visited throughout the Northeast. On Sundays, they have a great deal where their "Pick 2" deal (such as a soup and 1/2 sandwich) is just $5.99 all day. Hopefully, we will not need to wait long before McAlister's hits the New York City metropolitan area. It looks like they are approaching the Washington, D.C. area with their location in Herndon, VA. Oh my. A classic example of why the owner needs to always be onsite. Franchise Owner was nowhere in site during the high time from 12 noon-2PM Employees bumping into each other, no hustle at all. But, At 1pm, there were only 5 tables with 2-3 people, so call it an average table ticket of $35. There is simply not enough margin in this business to be on a hard corner. Location-Location -location is not always smart, when there is no margin-margin-margin. I predict them closing or moving within 1 year or sooner. Its sad, because the concept is great but too many employees running around doing god knows what. The manager was on the floor sweeping from 1PM to 2PM. She needs to be behind the counter monitoring all going on and making sure that orders are expediting efficiently. Go into a Jason's deli and than go into McAlisters and you'll see what I mean. I also ordered a bowl of chili which I do not recommend. Flavor was too similar to Wienerschnitzel, and appearance was NOT appetizing. Chili should not have finely ground meat!
