We were actually on our way to eat somewhere else when we saw this place and decided to try them. Good move! Their main food are - you guessed it - Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches - but with a twist. We tried the A-1 Philly which had beef, bacon, grilled onions and provolone cheese with A-1 sauce. For this one we opted for fries in a cup which are fries with bacon and melted cheese whiz in a cup. The bread for the sandwich was fresh. The combo of the flavors was really good. I'm not a big A-1 fan because it can really overpower everything it goes on, but with this one, it was just enough to give it the subtle flavor but not overpowering. Very good. The beef was soft, flavorful and moist. The fries - I was skeptical when I heard 'cheese whiz' but I was pleasantly surprised - very good. We also tried the South Texas Philly which had beef, bacon, grilled onions, green peppers, tomato, lettuce and provolone cheese. I opted to leave the mushrooms off. It was also a really good sandwich with good flavors. I order the 'regular' fries and they were that - hand it fries - prepared well. In hindsight - I'd order the fries in a cup. I was very pleased with our food. The dessert menu is extensive and their specialty is a milkshake/dessert combo. The milkshake comes in a Mason jar and then the dessert is literally on top of it. I stopped into this place after driving by it several times. I'm not a fan of Philly Cheesesteak but I wanted to try it anyway. I got the pizza cheesesteak which as you might guess had mozzarella and pepperoni in it. It was not bad at all, pretty tasty actually. Well this place is legit! Great tasting food. They use lots of well seasoned meat and the bread is awesome and appears to be freshly made. My first visit, I went with their chipotle Philly and man was it good. Definitely spicy with the fresh jalspeños, but great overall flavor. So much so that I went back the next day to try the original with onions, peppers, mushrooms and whiz. Once again, that one was a hit! My wife had the buffalo chicken Philly on our first visit and even though definitely not anything originally from Philly, it was darn tasty and the buffalo sauce was perfect in both our opinion. Now the surprise item for both of us turned out to the French fries! They are deliciously crispy and seasoned to perfection. I love the extra crispy pieces that came with them. A regular order comes with every sandwich so that is a nice touch. You can upgrade them to a cup where they add whiz cheese, bacon bits and sour cream. Delicious, but only if you feel like indulging, because the regular fries are awesome. The place has a nice decor and a really nice covered patio area outside if you don't mind a little traffic noise. The staff was friendly enough. You order at the counter and your food is brought out to you. Service is pretty fast overall. Ordering takeout took about 15-20min during lunch time including the line wait. We stopped in and had a very good lunch! We walked in right when they opened at 11am and the staff greeted us after a few minutes of looking at the menu. They were clearly still getting ready for the day so no big deal on the wait. I went with the Buffalo Chicken Philly and fries in a cup. It arrived within 5-10 minutes and was hot and fresh. We were expecting the portions to be ridiculous and everything to be extremely messy but that wasn't the case at all. The sandwich was the perfect size and the side of fries were easy to eat with a fork. A side of ranch would have been a great addition for this meal. Their milkshakes look incredible but the menu showed so many things that they were out of. It was kinda comical how many sticky notes were on the menu with arrows showing what would be missing if you ordered this shake. Overall, friendly staff, cleaning dining room, and delicious food. Yeah to be honest I think this place is good, but not amazing. Got the standard Philly which was ok compared to others I've had in the past. The steak lacked seasoning, but the cheese made up for it and the bread was soft and fluffy. Now this is the reason I'm giving 3 stars, the fries in a cup. I literally took one bite and threw the rest away. The cheese was good, bacon of course, why not. But it was the sweetness of the fries from the seasoning that's on them, along with the tangy ranch that was a no go for me. Maybe I've been spoiled with a certain Philly spot in Houston that blows a lot of places out of the water. All hype no substance. I've tried as hard as I can to think objectively about this review but I cannot come up with anything good to say about the tremendously lackluster food. Start with the soggy and tasteless fries. Gross, we didn't even want to finish them. Even worse, dump them in a cup covered in cheese and you have the recipe for a three day stomach ache. The sandwich has almost no meat and the vegetables are the only thing you taste. Finally top it off with a $10 dessert that again we did not finish among three people. My daughter and I decided we wanted something other than tacos today and decided to try Philly 77, a brand new business, locally owned and operated. Whenever I get the chance I prefer a locally owned business rather than a chain. I had an unusual experience which I'll tell in a moment. First, I'll start by rating some of the basics: CLEANLINESS: 5 Everything I saw was spotless AMBIENCE: 4 Casual but nice. Either patio or indoor dining. Suitable for a business lunch, family meal, or friends hanging out together. Large screen TV's are present but don't dominate. Great if you are dining alone or just want to follow the news or the game. The patio has umbrellas to shade by day and strings of lights for night. DÉCOR: 4 it is eclectic, a bit rustic, kind of modern industrial inside with custom steel cut out pieces, one wall with reclaimed wood and brick, very cool lighting with unusual bulbs, casual but nice. PORTIONS: 4 Good sized but not oversized. You can fill up with the philly cheese steak and generous fresh cut fries, or save some room for the incredible ice cream and desserts. I had the strawberry cheese cake ice cream and it was out of this world. My daughter had the cookie dough and heartily approved. FOOD AND FLAVOR: 5 I tried a bite of the BBQ philly cheesesteak my daughter ordered and it was great. I also tried the Buffalo and the Original cheesesteak (I'll get to why in a moment). I loved the original with provolone, though they also have cheese whiz, or even ranch dressing if you want to experiment. I loved the mushrooms, peppers and onions along with the steak. You can also get your philly cheesesteak with chicken or turkey if you prefer. PRICES: 3 (Average) $26 for two including drinks is not bad. Yes, it is more than at McDonalds, but there really is no comparison. MENU OPTIONS: 4 Obviously, their specialty is Philly Cheesesteaks. Besides several varieties with beef they also offer the same with either chicken or turkey. Add to that a few salads, chicken tenders and a philly cheesesteak stuffed baked potato! The Philly Cheesesteaks come with seasoned fries, but if you don't need to watch your cholesterol, you can upgrade the fries for 99 cents. The upgraded fries are served in a cup of melted cheese, topped with more cheese, and bacon! Mercy! Drinks include fountain drinks, three kinds of fresh brewed daily iced tea (thank you very much!), bottled water or Mexican Coca Cola and Sprite. Yes, there is a difference; Mexican Coca Cola products are made with cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. Did I mention desserts? They have dessert milkshakes which come with a corresponding dessert on top (Strawberry cheesecake shake served in a mason jar with a piece of strawberry cheesecake on top; Vanilla shake with key lime pie on top, etc. Crazylicious!) I had seen this building three businesses ago and they have put in some major work to upgrade it to what it is today. MY UNUSUAL EXPERIENCE My daughter's meal arrived a couple of minutes prior to mine. She loved her BBQ cheesesteak and fries. However, when my Buffalo Philly Cheesesteak (has Buffalo sauce and jalapeños) arrived I could barely eat it as it was way too salty. I was so hungry I really wanted to like it, and I managed to eat half, but did not enjoy it. My daughter tasted it and agreed. I tend to over salt my food, but this I could not handle. I was going to let it slide and try to fill up on my fries and some my daughter offered me. Then one of the servers came by and asked me if I enjoyed my sandwich. ...I decided to tell him the truth. He apologized, and reported my displeasure to Sabio (I assume he is an assistant manager?). Sabio offered us both some complimentary ice cream to help neutralize the saltiness in my palate. Then the owner, Jose, came to our table, apologized again very sincerely and offered to have another sandwich made for me without seasoning it with salt. I thanked him, and the new sandwich arrived promptly, this time with some added bacon (yum). Sadly, the second sandwich was at least as salty as the first. Even after taking off the bacon, it was too much. I guessed the salt was in the Buffalo sauce. Jose came by again to ensure I had been satisfied, and we talked about it. He explained they had just changed to a different brand of Buffalo sauce, and we surmised the problem had to be with that. He had ANOTHER, a third, sandwich made, (this time the Original Philly Cheesesteak), and it was outstanding. read more
