I ordered the steak and eggs (medium) with poached eggs and a side of hollandaise, and oh my gosh... everything was amazing. The flavors were spot-on, the potatoes had this uniquely delicious taste, and the poached eggs were cooked perfectly. The service was outstanding--my server just knew exactly what I needed today. I even tried the house tea, and he kindly made it iced for me. I sat outside, and the weather was perfect for enjoying my breakfast and a FaceTime call with my boyfriend while visiting from out of town. Such a great experience from start to finish. We enjoyed this quaint bistro in McAllen. The staff was very friendly and the service was prompt and very professional. They responded to my questions about the menu and cleared up any doubts I had so that I could make my order. I was very happy with my choice. I went to Birdie Bistro on Mexican Mother's Day with a party of three, and overall, it was a mixed experience. When we arrived, there was a sizable crowd gathered outside, so we were pleasantly surprised when we only had to wait about ten minutes for an indoor table--definitely faster than expected given the occasion. It's definitely overwhelmingly loud in there and tight since it is a small space, and tables/chairs take a huge portion of the space. Once we were seated, though, the service felt a bit rushed and impersonal. It took about 8 minutes before anyone asked us what we'd like to drink or presented with a menu, and when they did, it felt like they were in a hurry. We eventually placed our order (as pictured), and while the food took a little over 20 minutes to arrive, it was absolutely worth the wait. Everything we had was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The hype around Birdie Bistro's food is definitely real. That said, I do think the service could have matched the quality of the food. The staff seemed overwhelmed, and while I understand it was a busy day, a little more attentiveness would've gone a long way. I'd still recommend the place for the food alone, but I'd go back hoping for a more relaxed and welcoming dining experience next time. read more

Very cutesy, very demure. Nice local and family-owned feel. Right off of Main Street, Birdie Bistro is nestled in a commercial building with nice front patio seating. We found this place looking for brunch spots online. The menu was appealing for us to make the 19 minute drive from our hotel. We parked in the back and entered thru the back door of the building. As soon as we walked into the bistro, the lady behind the counter welcomed us in and said we could sit where we wanted. It honestly felt like we walked into the casa of someone's abuela. Originally, when viewing the menu online, I thought I'd get the chicken and waffles but being the "pancake junkie" that I am, I couldn't resist. And I added the strawberries for good measure. We added a mimosa carafe to enhance the vibes. My pancakes were perfect and the mango mimosa was a great sidekick. Soft instrumental music played in the background at the most appropriate volume. We enjoyed our food and drank mimosas and relaxed there far into digestion. We were allowed to just bask in the ambiance and weren't bothered or harassed. Staff just let us chill. Adorable brunch spot if you like enjoying the fresh air and be able to stroll nearby along the other shops of Main Street! The two-story concept gives big city vibes and I love the way they designed it. The inside made me a bit claustrophobic lol (pretty crowded and kinda dark) so I definitely recommend the patio. The service was kind of slow but we also arrived during peak brunch hour. You can pick like three toppings of your choice for the omelette so it was easily customizable. The omelette was pretty light and tasty. Whatever spicy sauce they had on the side made it even better. We also got the molettes and those were honestly the star of the show! I've never had molettes before and the beans on top of the buttery and crunchy bread was delicious. Lastly for dessert we shared a Belgian waffle which was also tasty but a little dry. My wife loves this place...so it's a good thing she doesn't follow me lol. I came here on my wife's recommendation, however she raved more about the atmosphere and the decor...than the food. To give it credit...this place has limited hours but when we arrived, it was full. The atmosphere is very present here...you can spend half your stay looking around at all the decorations. The service was quite good. Do not visit this place if you're on a budget...and to be fair, the crowd reflects it. The big fail here is the food sadly. My wife had the chilaquiles and I wanted to try something different, so I went with the quiche. My wife's chilaquiles were decent. You can definitely find them for less, with a larger serving and with much greater flavor elsewhere. The quiche was very forgettable...why you might ask? The crust was almost inedible. The bottom corner of the crust, even with a knife, I could barely cut through. I had the southwest quiche and the flavors mixed quite well. However, if you can't even eat part of it, it's a definite fail. If you have money to spend, free time in the AM, and hours to gossip...this is your place. If you want hot food, banging flavors, and get what you paid for, there's other places to try. read more

Birdie bistro is a very cute place. Stopped by for brunch today and, not only the staff was super nice and welcoming, but also very patient. It took me a while to decide what to order. Not once I felt rushed. I ended up getting their breakfast sandwich with potatoes and it was delicious! Only negative thing (and this has nothing to do with the restaurant itself) was the people a few tables away with the kid watching loud cartoons on their phone without headphones. My boyfriend have been here twice now, so this is a combined review. First off, the decor is extremely cute, with a farmhouse chic vibe going on. The service was great both times, as well. We actually had the same person help us both times that we went. During our first visit, I got the southwest quiche with a side of fruit. My boyfriend got the chicken and waffles. The quiche was so good and I would order this one again. My boyfriend was less than impressed when he initially saw the chicken and waffles, but he changed his tune once he tasted it. Surprisingly came back after the most appalling restaurant visit i've ever had - and the service was still absolutely horrible. As a server myself it's honestly disgusting that they still have good reviews and customers in general. We never got refills had to get up to ask for boxes and were never directed to pay. Additionally they have a sign saying they are no longer serving alcohol- THATS A LIE. There were customers who seemed to know the staff and they very obviously had mimosa glasses. At the recommendation of a friend of mine, I decided to give this place a try for breakfast. Birdie Bistro is tucked away in a strip center off of Main Street near the downtown area. Had I not been referred to this place, I would have never known this little jewel existed. I walked past the outside patio area and walked into the bistro. Right away, I was pleased by the cozy feel this place had, and charm of the friendly people inside of it. Everyone inside had a smile on their face and this definitely was the place to be. The decor also suited this comfy little bistro well. Since the weather was nice, and I did not want to occupy a bigger table than needed, I opted to sit in the patio area and eat outside. The weather was great, and the stretch of Main Street where it sits was quiet. I was greeted by a nice friendly fella (sorry, I did not catch his name), and handed a menu. I wanted something light, so I decided to go with the French toast. Disclaimer - I checked out the website before showing up. Let me tell you everything on the website looks delectable. So, I ordered the French toast, an Arnold Palmer, and waited. The Arnold Palmer showed up shortly thereafter in a small Mason jar. This Arnold Palmer had the perfect tea to lemonade ratio. While waiting for food, I enjoyed a nice variety of music ranging from Chris Stapleton, Marvin Gaye, U2, Luke Combs, and others. Also that song "Shallow." (Bradley, stick to acting. Singing is not your thing). Every dish that walked out looked amazing, and had me wishing I could have ordered everything on that menu. After a longer than anticipated wait, my food arrived in picture perfect order - luckily I was not in a hurry, so no big deal. The perfect presentation was as it looked on the website. I consumed it in a quick, but civilized fashion. It was nothing short of excellent, and the bacon was the right amount of crispiness as I ordered it. The next time my travel will incorporate a trip to McAllen, I will return here. This will now be one of my "go-to" places when I am back. It did not disappoint. Enjoy! read more

This restaurant is a short walk away from the Casa de Palmas. I was craving chilaquiles but they weren't available. Instead I had a nice fluffy omelette that was yummy. Super busy. This is a a cool little restaurant. Super trendy and yummy food. I came in on a Friday morning and is was PACKED. It took me about 20 minutes for just myself to get seated. The older women behind the register were not very friendly, and didn't attempt to get me seated quickly even though it was just myself eating. They sat me down where a baby shower was going on. The baby shower ladies were all over the place so it made it a bit irritating eating and trying to enjoy the place. I ordered the chicken and waffles... with strawberries on the side. The chicken was lightly breaded but still crispy and with lots of flavor! The inside is decorated nicely for spring and gives a London tea room vibe. The pasta a la Ava was a 10/10! Would eat it again a million times. I loved this place, the salmon crostini appetizer was delicious. The sangria was so flavorful and refreshing as well, and was such a large glass/serving size! The chicken picatta was delicious as well. The staff were fast, attentive, and very sweet! I had the breakfast sandwich, croissant w ham, cheese, and spinach w a side of fruit. All of it was delicious down to the fruit. My mom had an omelette w spinach, mushroom, jalapeño, and turkey w a side of papas. It also came w a salsa on the side that was not too spicy but very savory. She didn't leave much! If you follow me, you know I love eating outside. Five tables on the patio and four were occupied. Menu said breakfast was served all day, but it was noon and I wanted a lite lunch. Crepes sounded good to me and my companion too. We ordered the same. Kept it simple. Mixed music of a little Macy Gray and Garth Brooks playing in the background. Lots of plants around the area made the experience even better. Crepes delivered and nicely presented. If you look closely at the attached photo, there was actually a hair on the rim of the plate. Looked like it was from the waiter and it was far enough from my food that I didn't worry about it and brushed it away. Chicken, poblano peppers, corn and cheese filled a perfectly made crepe. A side of spiral pasta salad paired nicely with the crepe. We both crushed the meal in short order. I was very impressed. Everything was perfect...except for the stowaway coif remnant.
