What an extraordinary culinary experience! I had the pleasure of enjoying the pork chop and tamal, both of which were exquisitely prepared. The pan casero and shishito peppers were divine, and the sriracha shrimp was presented so beautifully it looked almost too good to eat. We visited to celebrate my colleague's 50th work anniversary and were fortunate to be seated at the chef's bar, which provided an unforgettable dining experience. The general manager, Aisha, displayed remarkable knowledge of each dish, describing them with such care and detail that every plate appearing before us felt more enchanting than the last. The desserts were nothing short of decadent, a perfect finale to an extraordinary meal. This restaurant is not only warm and welcoming, but also refined and memorable. Came in later on a weekday. No problem. Greeted with a smile at the door. Sat me at the chef table. Great service at the chef's table from both the chefs and the waiter. Told the waiter I was looking for something lighter, and he recommended the shrimp and grits, part of the Kentucky Derby special menu. The menu here changes frequently depending on the season he tells me. Also ordered the heirloom tomato salad with miniature figs and shaved onions and chunks of black salt with a balsamic drizzle. Fresh. Full of flavor. Pimento cheese grits were so satisfying. 6 perfectly cooked shrimp with a bit of a sweet bourbon glaze. Gone in minutes. Delicious. Homemade bread pudding with homemade malt ice cream and homemade caramel drizzle. Wow. Scratch made. Chefs are legit. They seem to watch as everyone literally cleans their plates completely and they snatch the plates quickly. So glad I broke down and left the conference center hotel as late as it was. Food was excellent and unique. The atmosphere was not good for us, party of older friends, due to the high noise level. It was very hard to hear and talk to each other. Service was a little slow and there was no explanation about the 3 salts sitting on the table. We got there when the restaurant opened so we were the first to be served. We got a complimentary glass of champagne since we were celebrating our anniversary. I don't drink, so I felt bad that it went to waste. If they would've asked I would've let them know not to pour me any. I have to say, the fried chicken tasted exactly like Church's chicken. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious and very moist, but I wasn't expecting that flavor. It made me think that I could've gone to Church's and spend way less. Sadly, the mashed potatoes were too salty that I couldn't enjoy them. I also ordered a side of Mac and cheese and it wasn't that good either. My husband enjoyed his meal. He got the duck. We both shared the quail knots as an appetizer and liked it. He also tried my Mac and cheese and didn't have a problem with it. I was never offered a refill of my drink, but my husband did. I had one of the mixed drinks with no alcohol and and my husband had an old fashioned. My husband would've rated them a 5 because he really enjoyed his experience. Parking was on the side and it is a small place but we sat at the bar and the staff were amazing. The restaurant itself had a nice atmosphere and we were able to sit there and have great conversation. We started with a Cucumber drink and a Paloma drink, there were so refreshing and made with fresh juices. We ordered brussel sprouts, which I have never had and they were so delicious. They were perfectly seasoned and roasted. I had the fish tacos. They were very good and my friend had the pear salad. She said it was so good. The chips were crispy, salty and addictive. The cocktail was made with freshly squeezed juice and perfectly refreshing on a hot south Texas day. The salad was well balanced and delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection and served with an incredible mushroom sauce. Substituted the onion rings for potatoes that were rich and seasoned perfectly. Wowee, Wow, Wow!! Found myself in Mission and I had visited my usual haunts, so decided to try something new. So, so glad I checked out Salt. Sat at the bar as I was alone. Two wonderful bartenders, pleasant and attentative. I noticed something unfamiliar to me on the menu, Hawaiian Butterfish, since I love fish I gave it a try. Holy mackerel, was that butterfish delightful, the beautiful sauce brought out the mild flavor, served atop edamame and Bok choy with these delightful tiny mushrooms. Amazing. ***most food on menu is from local farm*** LOVED LOVED LOVED. It took me a while to write a review about this place because there is so much to write. I'll still keep it short. Staff was super friendly and helpful, I sat at the "Chefs Table" meaning the counter all the food comes out from... they added chairs there. Really cool experience, especially seeing all the food being made. I ordered so many things (check out my photos) and EVERYTHING was YUMMY! The pork belly was super tasty and the butter (Bibb) lettuce made it taste so fresh... and the salad was tasty with those pears. The manager asked the chefs to make me a sample bowl of the "Salt Chips" which they make in house. BOMB. That wine I had was the only dissatisfaction I had with the whole night. I loved the attentiveness of the staff and making me feel comfortable especially eating out alone which can be difficult for a lot of people especially a restaurant like this... but no they all talked and chatted with me making me stay and continue ordering. Some of the best food I have had in Texas. I was staying across the way at the historic Casa De Palmas Hotel which is literally 10 steps away from the restaurant. I will be back as soon as I can!!! First time visiting Salt, many of my friends have recommended them to me. I sat at the Chefs tables and had the pleasure of watching them in action. For sure it was no disappointment. Watching the kitchen put these beautiful dishes working in tangent with each other was a sight to behold. Milton the manager recommended that I try something outside of the norm, and recommend the rabbit. It was to die for and played so beautifully I almost didn't want to mess it up. David my waiter recommended me an Italian red wine to pair with my rabbit which was perfect. All and all I am so glad I decided to come enjoy some very tasty food. Have been here twice now. The first time we sat at the bar, took a while to receive menus, we had to ask. We ordered a couple appetizers, the chips with Gorgonzola creme sauce and the sweetbreads. The chips were ok, there was very little actual Gorgonzola and the sauce made the chips soggy since they are cut so thin. Heads up for anyone that is not familiar with the colloquial term, sweetbread is cow thymus! They were awful and chewy. In all fairness, I'm sure if you like that sort of thing they were prepared well. The second time we sat outside, it was beautiful weather, the service was fantastic and attentive. We had a phenomenal cheese board, it could literally make a whole meal for two people. The drinks were also great. Will return at some point to try an entree. read more

First off, the shrimp starter! Delicious! The fried chicken with Jalepeno infused mashed potatoes was so delicious as well! The chicken was very tender, not dry. The ravioli with braised beef was also great! The Mac and cheese was a 10/10, I woke up wanting it again! Also, if you like martinis, get a cucumber martini. We are from San Antonio and had business on McAllen. After doing a Yelp search, SALT immediately caught our attention. We are SO glad we decided on this gem! From the moment you walk in, you know it's going to be an experience. Everyone is SO sincerely happy to see you and just so nice. Our server, Gil, our bartender, Jessica, were FANTASTIC. From the service to the recommendations to the drinks and everything in-between was just perfect. And I'm embarrassed to say I didn't ask one of the manager's names but he was absolutely charming and familiar with SA . We would drive from SA to McAllen just to eat here again.
