My go-to when I'm McAllen. It's farm-to-table fresh with rotating menu. And amazing interesting cocktails! And save room for dessert. Last night, I had the baked Alaska. The ice cream was cherry basil & it was divine. Amazing food & fairly priced. Don't miss this when you're in the Valley! read more

I was eating alone & luckily got to sit at the chef's table! What a great place to watch the cooks create these amazing dishes. Service was amazing! I ordered poblano corn chowder which was amazing! The fried chicken was okay but probably should have ordered beef or fish. I love this place & would go back just for the dessert!! read more

Excellent food, and excellent customer service by Daniel as the seating host who was very welcoming, and Apolo as our waiter. Came by to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary and we were greeted with a personalized menu, and our night ended with a beautiful dessert given to us by Apolo. Farm to table, the food is fresh and tastes delicious. Small gestures of pouring wine and remembering us as returning customers is what keeps us coming back. read more

The best time we've had here! And we've been here twice already. Apolo was the best server with answering any questions we had and giving descriptions of all the entrees and appetizers was definitely a plus. We'll be back again and will be requesting Apolo! read more

What an extraordinary culinary experience! I had the pleasure of enjoying the pork chop and tamal, both of which were exquisitely prepared. The pan casero and shishito peppers were divine, and the sriracha shrimp was presented so beautifully it looked almost too good to eat. We visited to celebrate my colleague's 50th work anniversary and were fortunate to be seated at the chef's bar, which provided an unforgettable dining experience. The general manager, Aisha, displayed remarkable knowledge of each dish, describing them with such care and detail that every plate appearing before us felt more enchanting than the last. The desserts were nothing short of decadent, a perfect finale to an extraordinary meal. This restaurant is not only warm and welcoming, but also refined and memorable. I would gladly fly back into town from Fort Worth simply to dine here again. ¡¡Tan Rico e inolvidable!! read more

I had the absolute best night here. The food, drinks and dessert were all amazing, but the people were so great. From the host being so welcoming and recommending I sit at the chef bar, to the chefs preparing food, servers offering great service and making you feel very welcomed and the head chef keeping everything going and being willing to tell you about different meals coming out. You can just see the passion they all have and the joy they have in working here and it comes out in the food. read more

Always my go to restaurant for dinner when in the Valley. Delicious items on the menu and love their use of "salt".....definitely enough to purchase their seasoning to bring home. Arrived for happy hour and stayed for dinner. Love the items in the menu and never have a problem finding something I can't wait to eat. read more

Best restaurant in the Valley, hands down. This place brings big city proffesionalism to McAllen. The freshness, tops any other restaurant. Their heirloom tomato salad is super tastey and one of my favorites. Steaks cooked to perfection. And I can never leave without getting some jalepeno mash. I love watching their cook line work, such a well oiled operation and everyone is super friendly and knowledgeable. Kudos to the owner, manager, cooks, and staff! I reccomend it to everyone. read more

Food was excellent and unique. The atmosphere was not good for us, party of older friends, due to the high noise level. It was very hard to hear and talk to each other. Service was a little slow and there was no explanation about the 3 salts sitting on the table. Best dirty martini I have had in the RGV We were celebrating a birthday and did know we should have brought our own cake as they do not do anything for birthdays other than putting your name on the menu. read more

the lavender drink is so good. The restaurant , and vibes are so nice and make you feel like you are having an elevated experience. I love coming here for good luck, before a major test especially, because I feel a good meal and good experience are the best way to excel. I love the food they have and one of the first restaurants I ate at in Mcallen when I moved that made me excited to eat out in the RGV. read more

We got there when the restaurant opened so we were the first to be served. We got a complimentary glass of champagne since we were celebrating our anniversary. I don't drink, so I felt bad that it went to waste. If they would've asked I would've let them know not to pour me any. I have to say, the fried chicken tasted exactly like Church's chicken. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious and very moist, but I wasn't expecting that flavor. It made me think that I could've gone to Church's and spend way less. Sadly, the mashed potatoes were too salty that I couldn't enjoy them. I also ordered a side of Mac and cheese and it wasn't that good either. My husband enjoyed his meal. He got the duck. We both shared the quail knots as an appetizer and liked it. He also tried my Mac and cheese and didn't have a problem with it. I was never offered a refill of my drink, but my husband did. I had one of the mixed drinks with no alcohol and and my husband had an old fashioned. My husband would've rated them a 5 because he really enjoyed his experience. I can't say I'm eager to give it another. read more

McAllen. Fine Dining. Wow. This place gives up nothing vs fine dining in a big city like Houston, for example. If this place was in Houston the prices would be close to double, and it would be busy. Came in later on a weekday. No problem. Greeted with a smile at the door. Sat me at the chef table. Great service at the chef's table from both the chefs and the waiter. Told the waiter I was looking for something lighter, and he recommended the shrimp and grits, part of the Kentucky Derby special menu. The menu here changes frequently depending on the season he tells me. Also ordered the heirloom tomato salad with miniature figs and shaved onions and chunks of black salt with a balsamic drizzle. Fresh. Full of flavor. Pimento cheese grits were so satisfying. 6 perfectly cooked shrimp with a bit of a sweet bourbon glaze. Gone in minutes. Delicious. Homemade bread pudding with homemade malt ice cream and homemade caramel drizzle. Wow. Scratch made. Chefs are legit. They seem to watch as everyone literally cleans their plates completely and they snatch the plates quickly. So glad I broke down and left the conference center hotel as late as it was. I will literally order something different each meal when I stay here again. Open for dinner only he said. Same chef also runs the sister restaurant the chefs tell me. I think it's called house.wine.bistro. Hoping that it's open for lunch lol read more

I've been to Salt twice now and loved it both times! Both the food and the service is great, our waiters were extremely attentive. LOVE their Paloma cocktail; wouldn't say it's very strong but they use fresh grapefruit juice which is fantastic. Really enjoyed the duck entree as well as the saffron carrot soup special they had. We started off with the Pan de Campo which was a little undercooked but tasted good. Wife had Fried Chicken and I had the filet with both dinner cooked to perfection and tasted remarkable. We additionally got the Mac-N-Cheese because I'm a big back. We finished it up with the Churro Ice Cream Sandwich. Our waiter provided exceptional service and was very attentive. The restaurant was busy and despite not having a reservation was able to be seated immediately. I would return to eat again! read more

I am so sad that I didn't take any picture, but I do want to review because it was so good! And what we ate looks just like the pictures already posted. Parking was on the side and it is a small place but we sat at the bar and the staff were amazing. The restaurant itself had a nice atmosphere and we were able to sit there and have great conversation. We started with a Cucumber drink and a Paloma drink, there were so refreshing and made with fresh juices. We ordered brussel sprouts, which I have never had and they were so delicious. They were perfectly seasoned and roasted. I had the fish tacos. They were very good and my friend had the pear salad. She said it was so good. All in all this place is very nice and the food was very good! I highly recommend stopping by if you are ever in McAllen, TX. read more

Awesome truly amazing the tiramisu was perfect and the rum and coke was incredible, would 10/10 recommend the food. Hits and misses was our evening experience. Shishito Peppers: yummy. Pork Belly Appetizer: was not a fan of the burnt edges nor chewy texture. Duck Entree: bland. Fish Tacos: delicious. Mac-n-Cheese: housemade pasta was gummy, cheesy sauce was tasty. Brussel Sprouts: hard to mess up and they did not thankfully. The flameless Baked Alaska: it's 'aight! Service: our waitperson kept vanishing, luckily others offered to help. read more

I should have been reviewing this place since the first time I've been here. The first two experiences, phenomenal. Great service , the presentation, the drinks, the atmosphere has been perfect. 5 stars. But this third time, our food took forever , our server brought the wrong order, had to wait again. The manager on shift served our correct dishes and didn't even once ask or let us know that they messed up. Our pork chops were a bit dry, we needed sharper knives but we had butter knives. It was just a letdown. Kinda ruined our girls dinner on a Monday. I love salt. But going to give it a break this time. Although the desert was amazing. Did not like this experience. read more

We were a party of 8 and it took a little long to bring our orders out. The server was nice though and personable. I had the Texas buck and it was delicious, it was strong without having an overwhelming burn of alcohol. The quail knots were ok, the Mac & cheese was ok... the pork shank was crispy but a little stringy... what stole the show for me were the pan de campo breads.. it's the first time I've ever heard of them and the waiter described them perfectly, they're like if pancakes & biscuits had a baby. Overall very nice experience here and would come again if I'm ever in town. read more

First time here and thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The staff as a whole really seem to enjoy their work and treat customers with respect. The chips were crispy, salty and addictive. The cocktail was made with freshly squeezed juice and perfectly refreshing on a hot south Texas day. The salad was well balanced and delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection and served with an incredible mushroom sauce. Substituted the onion rings for potatoes that were rich and seasoned perfectly. The NY strip was a little fatty and tough on one end but the other end was on point. Great experience! read more

Wowee, Wow, Wow!! Found myself in Mission and I had visited my usual haunts, so decided to try something new. So, so glad I checked out Salt. Sat at the bar as I was alone. Two wonderful bartenders, pleasant and attentative. I noticed something unfamiliar to me on the menu, Hawaiian Butterfish, since I love fish I gave it a try. Holy mackerel, was that butterfish delightful, the beautiful sauce brought out the mild flavor, served atop edamame and Bok choy with these delightful tiny mushrooms. Oh, you must have the fresh margaritas! What a treat!!! read more

Amazing. ***most food on menu is from local farm*** LOVED LOVED LOVED. It took me a while to write a review about this place because there is so much to write. I'll still keep it short. Staff was super friendly and helpful, I sat at the "Chefs Table" meaning the counter all the food comes out from... they added chairs there. Really cool experience, especially seeing all the food being made. I ordered so many things (check out my photos) and EVERYTHING was YUMMY! The pork belly was super tasty and the butter (Bibb) lettuce made it taste so fresh... and the salad was tasty with those pears. The manager asked the chefs to make me a sample bowl of the "Salt Chips" which they make in house. BOMB. That wine I had was the only dissatisfaction I had with the whole night. I loved the attentiveness of the staff and making me feel comfortable especially eating out alone which can be difficult for a lot of people especially a restaurant like this... but no they all talked and chatted with me making me stay and continue ordering. Some of the best food I have had in Texas. I was staying across the way at the historic Casa De Palmas Hotel which is literally 10 steps away from the restaurant. I will be back as soon as I can!!! I can't rave about it enough! read more

First off, the shrimp starter! Delicious! The fried chicken with Jalepeno infused mashed potatoes was so delicious as well! The chicken was very tender, not dry. The ravioli with braised beef was also great! The Mac and cheese was a 10/10, I woke up wanting it again! Also, if you like martinis, get a cucumber martini. As far as dessert goes, the pbj brownie was great. I also got the flan, I wasn't a huge fan but if you like something subtle after dinner, then you might like it! read more

Have been here twice now. The first time we sat at the bar, took a while to receive menus, we had to ask. We ordered a couple appetizers, the chips with Gorgonzola creme sauce and the sweetbreads. The chips were ok, there was very little actual Gorgonzola and the sauce made the chips soggy since they are cut so thin. Heads up for anyone that is not familiar with the colloquial term, sweetbread is cow thymus! They were awful and chewy. In all fairness, I'm sure if you like that sort of thing they were prepared well. The second time we sat outside, it was beautiful weather, the service was fantastic and attentive. We had a phenomenal cheese board, it could literally make a whole meal for two people. The drinks were also great. Will return at some point to try an entree. read more

First time visiting Salt, many of my friends have recommended them to me. I sat at the Chefs tables and had the pleasure of watching them in action. For sure it was no disappointment. Watching the kitchen put these beautiful dishes working in tangent with each other was a sight to behold. Milton the manager recommended that I try something outside of the norm, and recommend the rabbit. It was to die for and played so beautifully I almost didn't want to mess it up. David my waiter recommended me an Italian red wine to pair with my rabbit which was perfect. All and all I am so glad I decided to come enjoy some very tasty food. Rebeca the bartender made me a mezcal old fashioned that was out of this world. Also try her blackberry whiskey smash *chefs kiss* to it all. read more

We are from San Antonio and had business on McAllen. After doing a Yelp search, SALT immediately caught our attention. We are SO glad we decided on this gem! From the moment you walk in, you know it's going to be an experience. Everyone is SO sincerely happy to see you and just so nice. Our server, Gil, our bartender, Jessica, were FANTASTIC. From the service to the recommendations to the drinks and everything in-between was just perfect. And I'm embarrassed to say I didn't ask one of the manager's names but he was absolutely charming and familiar with SA . We would drive from SA to McAllen just to eat here again. Highly recommended on SO many levels. Thank you -- this will always be McAllen to us now read more
