They have a new location, and I was at their old location not having any idea of where they had moved since there was nothing posted as to what their new address was. They are now across the street next to the driving school. Once I did find out where their new location was, I did enjoy the atmosphere, their coffee, a breakfast sandwich, and the service of the employees. Baristas were nice and attentive and with their help decided to order a blueberry muffin that was delicious and flaky along with a mud latte ( I forgot what I ordered ) that's a go to as per the barista! Now for me it was a bit to sweet but was tasty and creamy ! Then ordered a cold brew with was delicious and flavorful. Will come back if I were in town ! Quality, as well as ambiance, has been tanking severely. Once a place to order a coffee made with love from cool baristas, has become replaced by a dull miserable kiosk with no personality. One can't sit down for 5 minutes before ordering without being bothered by the bald man telling you to order something. What a way to ruin the mood! On top of that, you must order something every 2 hours to stay connected to the wifi... not cool. Also, i can taste the emotions of the people who make my coffee, and the coffee here tastes SAD! We are exploring coffee shops in town, have driven by this place numerous times, never could tell if it was open. The brown on brown on brown paint is dreary and not welcoming. The whole place needs a cleaning and pick me up. Well past its prime. The outdoor area has potential but the tables need to be wiped down and ashtrays emptied. Planters were falling apart, fence art not finished. The inside was dark and dreary and old feeling. A younger crowd. Maybe going for the dark and cozy, but missed the mark. The counter also was not welcoming area. Also tired and basic. Not welcoming. I'm not a fan of touch screen ordering, first the hygiene aspect and very impersonal. A large menu on the wall feels cozier and friendlier. The only positive was the barrista, very friendly and sweet and took our verbal order. We ordered hot Americana's. Not our favorite roast, and even though we ordered an extra shot, still tasted weak. I would not bring a visitor or business acquaintance here. read more

They have things lying around everywhere, the restrooms are straight out of a horror movie, everything is broken, the floor tiles are broken, the staff seem like they don't care and it's always packed! Why do people come here? And why does it always smell like that?? Also I'm 50/50 for the tables they have, on one part it's nice that people can connect through art but on the other it just makes the place look worse. Stopped in for the first time. The entrance sign is a banner that was not visible until I walked up closer to it. It's also a bit of a weird entrance, covered and looked abandoned. Once I walked through the entrance area I realized it is the entrance to the outdoor patio area and door to the cafe is a bit further in. The outside patio area is very large, for a cafe. Once inside I enjoyed the low lighting and multiple tables. It was a bit busy as it kind of sounded more like a cafeteria than a cafe. I ordered the Oreo drink and had to get a larger size or choose the size without a lid. The drink was good but I'm not sure where the Oreos were. Overall, I know Covid has set back a lot of businesses but I think they're rolling along. A couple tweaks to get things right and on track are needed but I would definitely return. read more

I was visiting family a month ago and my sisters took me here as we enjoy good coffee and a nice patio. It was the nicest coffee shop I've been to down there and I really enjoyed my ice chai. The first time I ordered from MoonBeans I ordered through their app. I was under the impression they'd bring it out to my car since I figured the point of ordering through the app was for curbside pickup. They never brought it out so I had to go in. When I went in, my oat milk had been sitting for so long that they seemed to pull it out of some sort of cabinet below the cash register where it was waiting. I asked if it was still hot. The girl said it was. She said if it wasn't hot to bring it back and they could warm it. What?? I went back the second time to give them a second chance. I talked about what type of oat milk they use with the girl who took my order. They use Pacifica Oat Milk. She then called out to the patio to have the barista come inside to make my latte. Really? I didn't feel the passion for the craft from the staff. Couldn't taste it either. If you want a good latte, go over to Semilla. The new location sucks. I recently went at least 5x within a two week time frame and here are the bad things that really stand out. - the no outside drinks or food signs are excessive!!! Do you really need a sign on every door and at every booth to get the message across? There are at least a total of 10 paper signs throughout the shop. - the outlets are out of reach high up on the wall and are a safety hazard. I saw Customers standing on the booths to plug in their devices. - the prices announced are false and are more expensive. The drink I ordered was about $1.50 more than advertised on the drink menu board. - the booths and tables are in bad condition. I got multiple tables which were very wobbly. - they are always out of stock on something. The first few times, out of Oreo bits. The 5th time, no whip cream. - they don't have the proper lids at the coffee bar. I had to go back to the cashier to get a proper fitting cup lid. - expect loud grinding of coffee. The big grinding machine is on the same open floor and really loud. I was unable to take any calls or concentrate. More than half of the times they were grinding for 30min or so. I'm only here because of the Oreo Orbit drink and will take my business to the new Reserva spot when it opens. read more

Even though they became very corporate, I still like their coffee. If you do not want caffeine, you can order the Oreo orbit which is just crushed Oreos with milk( if you like coffee just add an expresso shot or even 2). Some of the baristas seem like they do not want to be there or are having a bad day. When asked what they would recommend they seem to not want to help you by giving recommendations; This in my opinion makes your visit a little bit bad. Service used to be better before they remodeled and made the coffee shop more cooperate. It was better when it was more of a mom and pop coffee shop with the vintage sofas and chairs. Their coffees are delicious! Their teas are amazing, their pastries are on point and the vibe this coffee shop has is fantastic! I have noticed that Monday's are a bit busy, so if you want a quiet place to study, Monday's may not be too quiet! Otherwise, MoonBeans is a great place to study, the atmosphere is really relaxed, and the smell of coffee makes it a great environment! I always come here on weekends to study for exams. They have a large table that runs across the store and booths for you to sit in to study. The booths have outlets where you can charge your electronics. Overall, MoonBeans is a fantastic place! Went in on one of the coldest days of the year to escape the weather. Less than 40 degree weather, a warm ambience, and coffee might seem to be the perfect unison, but this seemingly beautiful idea was shattered when the barista, who I later found out was named "Amy", felt the need to prop the door open with a chair despite customers sitting near the entrance. When asked if we could close the door, Amy stated that no, we were not allowed to close it because she was hot in the back with a condescending attitude. How this is acceptable is beyond me, given that her coworkers seemed to agree with the customers who felt this was unreasonable, while making no effort for restitution. I hope that MoonBeans will take the proper steps to train their staff in customer service, or review their requirements for hiring, as it has become quite evident that the wrong people are interacting with customers. People like Amy represent the company on the front end, yet I do not believe this behavior exemplifies the values that MoonBeans does. When I called to speak to a manager about this experience, she had the audacity to pretend to be the manager, and proceeded to belliger me over the phone about my own behavior and how we spoke to her and her colleague, in a defensive manner that she will no-doubt use when she brings this up to her actual upper-management to cast down this review as lies. To reiterate, this entire escapade ensued over multiple polite requests to close the door on a freezing night. MoonBeans has been our go-to location to relax and unwind. Warning; to be fair, we were visiting family from out of town and we live in Seattle so are used to ~superior~ coffee. Service was prompt and friendly. Drinks could have definitely been better! I ordered something chocolatey and cold (can't remember the name!) because it was hot AF. I expected to get something similar to an iced overly sweetened coffee from Starbucks but whatever it was that i ordered came out of a LARGE PLASTIC CONTAINER BECAUSE IT WAS PRE-MADE----WTF! Yeah it tasted fine, very reminiscent of premade coffee/chocolate milk but NOT what i wanted coming from a COFFEE SHOP! I mean that's not why you go in one right? I'm always on the lookout for a great local coffee spot that's better than visiting the nearby Siren establishment and MoonBeans definitely fits the bill. On my first visit here, I was pleasantly surprised to see the space is big and perfect for getting work done. I typically work from home and this is the ideal place to cure my cabin fever. Plus, the staff is very friendly. When my guy and I mentioned that we had just moved to the area, the girl at the register was offering us a ton of suggestions on places to go. I always appreciate a helping hand, especially when moving over 1000 miles away from home. The coffee menu is relatively small, however there are a lot of customization options (dairy free, syrup add ins). So far, I've tried an iced coffee and a vanilla almond milk latte. The iced coffee was ok, a little too watery in my opinion. I honestly think they should incorporate coffee ice cubes, it would improve my typical favorite drink X1000. The latte was good and I was very happy with the free syrup you get when checking in on Yelp. Honestly, this place would for sure be a five star if they just improved a smidgen on some of their drinks. Nothing wrong with them, just not my flavor. The "barista" here couldn't answer any of my questions, he didn't seem to know what was in the coffee. This place is a freaking joke. I ordered ttwo drinks and they were gritty and I asked for them to please remake them as the taste and quality was poor, just like their customer service. I'm new to McAllen and I was happy to stumble upon this little coffee shop. Actually had breakfast here the very first day I was in town while I was waiting for the movers. I hadn't been to this Moonbeans location in at least 2 years and the look has changed so much! Definitely an upgrade. There's a lot more seating available in general and for bigger groups too. They also offer outdoor seating as well. There is always 1 or 2 people there that just ruin the mood for me every time I have gone; that's where the headphones come in handy. I will say the internet was lagging a lot. Something to keep in mind. I went one day after another and the second day was the worst. After a couple employees finished their shift, they proceeded to sit at a table near me with a customer they knew all to talk crap about some other employees that had just gotten to work. They, and the customer, were cussing aloud and sharing inappropriate stories (considering children were around) and using vulgar language. It was so hard to focus on my studies with these people talking so loud and rudely. I'm a big tea drinker, hot or cold, and I was unimpressed with the selection they had to offer. They had sleepy-time teas and herbal teas which if you're at a coffee shop, chances are you don't want to think of sleep just yet. I was also disappointed that they didn't have a regular black unsweet tea to offer, as they had run out for the day apparently. I went back the next day and they still did not have black tea. It's so simple to make, not sure what the problem was. I finally decided on an Orange & Spice iced tea with nothing added to it. I was surprised to like it as much as I did the first day. It did already have a mild sweetness to it without adding anything. However, when I had it the next day it didn't taste the same at all and was not very good. Still a little confused about that one. Before my second day of trying this place again recently I for sure would've been back, but now I know I'll just stick to the Starbucks down the street and get free refills on the black tea. Some douchebag in an Escalade or some other ghettofied, expensive SUV cruises by slowly multiple times with loud jazz music (my friend said he actually heard the Pink Panther theme once) with his Pomeranian hanging out the front window, blocking the douchebag's face. It's very, very amusing...yet sad. If I were to be picked up by a guy with a dog...it would DEFINITELY NOT be an effing Pomeranian. Does anyone know what the deuce he's thinking?! Douchebag!!! Moonbeans is a quaint, neighborhood coffee shop...not unlike some of the small neighborhood coffee shops in Austin. They have their original drinks and they roast their own coffee. There's local art on the walls, soft music in the background (perfect for studying or chit chatting), and really cool baristas. The crowd that hangs out here is relatively douchebag free...the Pomeranian guy just cruises around. I had a new drink that they just started offering, but I'm blanking on the name of it. It was quite tasty...and quick, too! They have also, since the last time I was here, started serving beer. And it's beer that makes my inner beer snob proud...not just the typical AB beers, but beers with class and style! The culmination of 3 visits has sorted my opinion of this local coffee spot: As with Amber M, I too enjoy supporting locally owned and operated businesses. Anytime I can get away from the green and white monster, I do, and more often than not it's a better experience. With a great ambiance, great machinery, and the appearance of knowledgable staff (some are, some need some work) I was looking forward to making this my go to spot. My first time in, I got an iced coffee (sometimes called cold brew) and was surprised to see the preferred method of pour over, mostly because most iced coffee I've seen is brewed at a higher concentration to account for the added ice later on in the drink. This predictably led to a watery beverage that had little flavor. My last time in I asked about a named beverage (it had "mud" in the name, but it escapes me) At one point I asked if there was a non-dairy version of it, since I can't really stomach regular milk. This should have been the baristas cue to suggest something else, however that wasn't the case, and I ended up with a cup full of milk and sugar. I was out of it from the previous nights activities, so I just took my drinks, and moved on. The point is, this place probably does regular drip, and espresso just fine, but I just happen to order differently, and that reflected negatively on my experience. I'm not saying I'll never go back ( I bought a gift card for their reward points) but I do think they need some improvement. read more
