    Mac & Cheese
    Maribel G.

Been coming here for years. I always get the mac and cheese. Today, however, I had this nasty bright orange mac and cheese. It was literally NACHO CHEESE. It tasted so strong, I couldn't finish eating it. Got a cookie and it was stale and hard. Mind you, this was at about 11am so they weren't out for long. Never had a complaint about this corner bakery but today was definitely not it.

For some reason, CB can never seem to get it right with their vegetarian items. Their California Grille Panini often lacks any substance and all you can taste(if lucky) is their provolone cheese and an artichoke or two. No seasoning, no spinach, no peppers. Their pesto pasta oftentimes also comes up short, with watered down noodles and minimal "pesto" sauce. Even their salads are impossible! Santa Fe ranch minus the chicken? Out of season tomatoes, stale tortilla chips, and "corn salsa" comprised of corn and a jalapeno or two does not make for a filling meal. So why do I return? Am I a glutton for punishment? Their prices continue to raise and their overall products stink. Two words, Monster Cookie. You don't know it until you try it!

Good food, horrible service. I had ordered a Mac and cheese with bacon and NO tomato's, first the server had no idea what table he was serving. Then when we finally got our food. They messed it up, they just gave me the Mac n cheese with breadcrumbs, no bacon, no problem so I go back and ask if they can put bacon in it, they bring it back and to my surprise, they fuck it up again!! They give me the Mac with bacon and tomatoes. Even though I'm deathly allergic. I will not be coming back. Very disappointed.

Chicken was so tender, beautifully seasoned. The noodles were cooked to perfection and had tons and tons of flavor.

I decided to order in for my wife and I this Wednesday afternoon. She has been having really bad cramps and has been craving a grilled cheese and tomato soup. I discovered Corner Bakery from a random search and it was probably one of the best searches I've ever made in my life. The items we selected were made to perfection and were definitely made with love and passion (will describe each individual dish in photos) and was well worth a 5 stars for us. We will most definitely be visiting this establishment very soon to see what else they have cooking!

    Garlic bread? I think no...

Yikes. Spongy, wet, cat-food-looking chicken does not a gourmet sandwich make. We stopped in for 2 sammies and a pasta dish to-go and were not happy with what we ordered at all. I ordered the Chicken Pesto on Ciabatta Ficelle. It doesn't have much on it so I asked them to add white cheddar and onion. I could only eat half. It's a large sandwich, but honestly the meat on it was revolting. The menu says all-natural roasted chicken and I was really looking forward to something delicious, but it was blah. He had the Poblano Fresco on Poblano Cheese Bread with roast beef and said it was just "meh." We later split the pasta dish and were disappointed. I get that it's a cafe but the sauce was icky and the portion was small. It came with something they wanted to call garlic bread. More like barely garlic piece of cardboard. Pic to prove it - just take a look. We spent over $22 for the food and were completely let down. We both commented that we had wished we'd gone to Panera and/or Noodles instead. Womp-womp. :( We won't be back.

Corner Bakery has two of my favorite salads: the Santa Fe and the Chopped Salad. When I'm downtown or near one in the burbs...I try to stop in and grab one. The creamy avocado ranch and the sweet and spicy vinaigrette dressing take it up about ten notches! Customer service at this location is always pleasant and the pastries are fresh. The chocolate muffin is the truth! The locations downtown make them half price after 12, this location states they aren't marked down until the evening so be forewarned.

But for a premium price, I expect premium product, and this place is rough around the edges in ways that feel easy to fix. I'm pointing them out in hopes they'll be corrected. First the positive - the food was pretty good. Not great for the price, but pretty good. Drip coffee was better than most diners/cafes in the area. The ambience was pleasant. Here's the issues. 1. The furniture needs a refresh and I don't think the place has even been open that long. The side tables by the window are losing their finish - a fragment of wood got caught under my finger nail as I was sitting down and just lightly grazed the table with my hand. I also brushed away a few additional flakes coming up. The chiffon curtains are charming until you look closer and see they're speckled with food from past diners. A moss ball decoration in the bathroom is missing half its moss. It's little stuff, obviously, but when I spot things like this at a place otherwise charging a premium partially for cute aesthetics, I always get concerned that the lack of attention detail might also be getting reflected in the food. 2. Value for money and food quality are also an issue. $20 for one slice of sourdough cut in half, a rather overdone French omelette with sour cream on top (not mentioned on the menu and a weird choice) a bowl of fruit I wasn't interested in rather than a choice of free side, and sausages I paid extra for, is not good value to me. The bread was good! The omelette was mediocre. The sausage was very solid, had a slight funk to it that I liked and suggested to me it was made in house - but 7 dollars for two sausage patties is absolutely wild. I would suggest Milkstop rethink the combos on its menu to include more and be priced a touch more transparently. 3. Finally, service. Everyone was VERY KIND, again, want to stress that, but service was slow and rather inattentive for most of the meal. The place was only half full, but water and an initial drink order were slow, and I waited for a while for the check while the staff chatted amongst themselves in the corner of the room. Not trying to be a dick, the life of a service worker is tough, but the place was mostly empty and I noticed they already charge a 3% service gratuity on your orders, so I'd expect a little better. Basically this place has a very charming surface with some wonkiness around the edges. I will definitely come back again but guys, come on - ditch the gross chiffon curtains, for both our sakes.

For pizzas, we tried the Pepper Only, the Sausage Fest, and The Original Mr. Beef, and that one ended up being my favorite. Definitely the star of the night. The drink menu is also great. Lots of options depending on what you're in the mood for. And as a mom, I have to mention the bathroom situation. Although it's downstairs, it's clean, spacious and private, and they have a changing table, which honestly makes such a difference. Believe it or not, not every place thinks about that, and it's always appreciated. Overall, a great spot for groups with good food, good drinks, and an aesthetic interior that left me wanting to go back for more.

Everyone in the family had a taste of each and we all had different favorites so I will conclude that regardless of what you get, you will enjoy it! The flavor just hits right, salty, tangy, and a little spicy from the capicola. Bread had that perfect chew, not too soft, not rock hard. Maybe could've been a little toastier but that's just me, but honestly, it was solid. We also got the Turkey Cobb. Roasted turkey, blue cheese, and applewood smoked bacon on thick sourdough with avocado. That one was so good. The blue cheese really stood out, packed a flavorful punch that tied it all together. Portions were generous too, I didn't even finish it all in one go. I'd definitely come back and try the other sandwiches.
