Two stars for the staff and service. But the food is very disappointing! Saw Mexican Skillet on the menu - both my daughter-in-law and self ordered it. Not their fault but I didn't hv my glasses on and couldnt see that they added HONEY (lots of it) to a Mexican skillet. Aside from that they approx 10 potato cubes in this skillet were swimming in this honey, soggy and with a lot of green pepper, corn and just "blech"! I have always had a pleasant experience at this Honey Jam location. I have tried different breakfast dishes from my visits, and they have all been satisfying. I love how fluffy they make their pancakes. My daughter agrees with me on this. The last time I had brunch here, I had a sweet potato and chorizo skillet. It was delicious. My horchata coffee was perfect too. The place is neat, the service is efficient and pleasant, but parking can be challenging (especially on the weekends). Food good, as always. However, we were given the wrong check today for our breakfast and it took a long time to correct it. This happened before and that time we were charged twice instead of having one charge remove and the correct charge applied. We were told this didn't happen to us, but it did. I only use my debit card at Honey Jam, for the points. I go there a LOT with friends and family, but this was bad--not one I am sorry for the considerable inconvenience and delay or the wrong charge. Saw this place along with my wife and wanted to try it while in Chicago. The place was clean and had very good customer service . We were seated and both ordered the 2 meat patty sausage 2 eggs, hash browns and wheat toast for myself and my wife the pancakes instead of toast. The wait time to be seated was so fast! Our serve was so nice and kept checking up on us which was great customer service. We ordered our food and it came out less than 20 mins it was so fast for the amount of people that were there eating. The ambiance was nice I love the amount of the restaurant and it was clean! Today I visited Honey Jam Cafe. There's multiple locations in Illinois. I've visited the Downers Grove location a few years ago, but today we're trying out the latest location in Oakbrook. The hubby got a create your own omelette with pancakes and I got the strawberry orange juice with a steak skillet with cinnamon roll pancakes. Overall the food was good, but we did have an issue with our server. First - she didn't greet us or tell us Happy New Year. Literally as I was taking off my coat before sitting down, she was already asking what we wanted to drink. We hadn't yet sat down to go over the menu! Secondly, she messed up the bill by adding our total as well as another customers. Thankfully the manager caught it and fixed it before we paid at the front. I'm going to give this restaurant 4 / 5 stars for the food. 3 stars for service and for the experience 3.5 - only because the manager assisted us. Left empty handed with no food or refund after waiting over 40 minutes for 2 eggs....It's a disaster in there. First of all, you have to fight for your life in the parking lot trying to find a spot. Then, you enter the front door and are treated like you are a nuisance for coming up to the hostess stand. Service, however, was fast and attentive. The coffee was a highlight for me. The French roast was smooth, not too acidic, and not weak tasting either. Country Benedict and grits were my choice for the main dish. The biscuits were quite dry, like they were made a couple hours earlier, but the gravy was properly seasoned, if a little runny for my liking. The grits were not really prepared well since they still had clumps in them. One of the poached eggs was perfect, but the other was just a hard-boiled egg. The chicken fried steak was pretty well seasoned and had a nice thick crunch to it. It was a good consistency between meat and breading. The eggs for this dish were nicely cooked as well. Pancakes had a box taste to them or used an artificial vanilla. Imagine Bisquik pancakes, and that is what they felt and tasted like. Overall, it was an okay experience for breakfast. Solid choice for breakfast in the Oakbrook area. Honey Jam has a varied menu with all the favorites such as pancakes, waffles, omelets, and skillets. Like other locations, the restaurant is fairly large and able to fulfill fairly large groups pretty easily, even during the busy weekend morning rush. Prices are pretty fair though slightly on the higher side if you're getting specialty drinks and upgrading to specialty pancakes. Service is pretty fast considering how busy the restaurant is. The dining room is surprisingly not super loud for how close patrons are to one another, and the tables are not packed together too tightly. The food is fairly solid here, not the best really in any category compared to peers but done pretty well for pretty much everything. The biscuits and fairly crunchy / fluffy with a nice cinnamon butter, similar to other Southern Style biscuits you'll find nearby. The skillets are overall not too salty with a little crisp on the hash browns, though the portion size is a bit smaller than what you may find elsewhere. Waffles are fairly good, as are the pancakes -- texture isn't bad (a bit more spongy) though not executed as well as Honeyberry or Egg Harbor. I would've liked a few more options of toppings, but it's enough to satisfy a wide variety of cravings. Overall, there's enough to like about the food options here and the preparation to go here with friends and family. It has plenty of parking and space to accomodate larger groups at reasonable prices. read more
