Third time's a charm at Corkscrew Cafe. After two failed attempts including our last visit due to an accident that resulted in a traffic backup, we finally got to try their Meyer Lemon Pizza. The more sweet than tart Meyer lemon paired with salty prosciutto, nutty parmesan and spicy arugula works so well together. Add in a starter of roasted garlic and creamy baked goat cheese over grilled bread and an aperol spritz enjoyed in their garden seating, it was worth the wait. However, it is that Meyer Lemon pizza that will bring me back in.

Delicious lunch at Corkscrew Cafe! The tomato salad was the star of the show. Our server was very attentive and friendly, and provided helpful info regarding the menu options. I appreciated the food pairings as well as with the drinks.

Pizzas are delicious- we had the Meyer lemon with prosciutto and everything about it was great/ thin crispy crust with wood fire slightly charcoal had you eating the entire crust. The arugula broke the gooey cheese but the lemons were the star. Will drive out here just for that pizza. Pear salad was a great start, poached pear with melted blue cheese was a nice surprise. Attentive staff in a rustic vibe patio made for a good lunch before heading to the wine tasting rooms.

We really enjoy the corkscrew Café and have visited multiple times. Depending on the day and the season it can be very busy so some forward planning might help. They also serve a trunk gated menu next-door at cowgirl and across the street. Our most recent visit had us enjoying a butternut squash pizza that significantly exceeded expectations, steak frites that hit exactly as expected and a fabulous roasted garlic and goat cheese (not pictured; didn't last for photos). We sat outdoors and the area is very dog friendly, the entire vibe of the place made me feel like I was in Europe. They even served their Bavik with a side of Gouda and celery salt.

An absolute gem!! The patio area is the best place to grab lunch. We had the elote pizza, which was honestly one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Service was great too. Wish we lived closer so we could visit more!

The wood-fired pizza had a delicious, charred flavor that was perfect for a casual dinner. While it was a bit burnt in spots (a common trait of wood-fired pizzas), it added to the charm and didn't detract from the overall taste. The toppings were generous and flavorful, and the crust was crispy and well-cooked. Bonus - you can order pizza to the winery next door!

Came here for lunch between wine tasting in Carmel Valley, recommended by some locals. When we entered there was no one in the restaurant or so we thought. We asked to be seated outside as it was a nice day and the patio was filled with couples, families and large groups. The outdoor patio is rustic, cozy and inviting. Ordered the wedge salad which was their special. There are 3 large romaine wedges with green goddess dressing and cherry tomato halves, bacon and cheese. It's scrumptious! Ordered the grilled whole trout ($16.50) for substance as we would be going to another winery afterwards. The grill was perfect, the lemon and capers really made the trout shine. My husband got the fish tacos and it comes with 3 blue corn tortillas topped with moist and tender fish. So fresh, light and yummy. The portions felt just right too.

Amazing food and service. We came up here Labor Day weekend and found this gem of a restaurant. We've been dreaming of the roasted garlic appetizer and crispy fish tacos ever since. Now we returned for Memorial Day weekend and Corkscrew was our first stop. I tried the White wine mojito this time, and it was marvelous.

Menu

The food is absolutely amazing, wine is great, service was fantastic and the ambiance is great in the garden.

The service at Cafe Rustica is outstanding. We had a waiter who took our orders, another one serving our food, and a third pouring water. All were very friendly and professional. I ordered the chicken apple sausage dish I loved so much last time. Others in the party ordered chicken, pinto bean soup, and I think the salmon. Everyone enjoyed their food. RUNNING IRON: GOOD BURGERS & A LITTLE OLD-WEST CHARM…read more The Running Iron in Carmel Valley is a fun, casual saloon with a great old-Western atmosphere. It's casual, comfortable and exactly the kind of place where you can sit back and enjoy a burger without taking things too seriously. We stopped in for burgers. Portions were generous, the burgers were satisfying, and the fries were tasty. The patty melt was the standout--really well done. The onion rings, unfortunately, were disappointing, and the coleslaw was nothing special. Service was excellent--pleasant, attentive and readily available. One minor annoyance: an extra charge for a small side of Thousand Island dressing seemed a little like nickel-and-diming. The Tommy B Restaurant Scale of A = Outstanding or F = Forgettable - a "solid" B+. A solid choice for a casual burger and a good patty melt. I'd go back.

We both ordered burgers. I ordered the patty melt (2/5) and my wife ordered a spicy Mexi burger (2/5). Our friendly server (5/5) asked what temperature we wanted our burgers cooked. We both ordered 'medium'. My philosophy at all restaurants is...'If they ask you what temperature you want your grilled meat prepared, the kitchen should be able to cook to that request'. Unfortunately, both burgers came out well done and totally hammered. The restaurant was not busy so there's no excuse. The Running Iron needs a new cook. We will wait a year or so before going back so hopefully this bad cook will be out of the kitchen by then. The only reason I didn't give 2 stars was the fun and friendly service. Enough said!

Thankfully, the restaurant is very dog-friendly, and we were able to dine with our little dog in the lounge/bar area. The food was absolutely delicious and deserves five stars. We started with almonds, olives, and rustic bread, then enjoyed the harvest soup, halibut tacos, "Spa" salad with halibut, Caesar salad with achote prawns, and Bernardus burger with fries. Everything was excellent--high praise to the chef and kitchen team! We had two signature cocktails and two mocktails. All delicious. Wait staff service was mixed. Our first server and the person who sat us both seemed a bit ingenuine. The waiter/bar tender didn't refill our waters, though the manager kindly stepped in and did so. Our final server was warm and attentive, making sure our Americanos were hot and they looked after us through dessert. Since we visited at 2 p.m., the odd hour and perhaps shift change to dinner wait staff may have contributed to the inconsistency. Overall, a wonderful meal, with room for improvement in communication and service.

Beautiful Ambience and Setting…read more Decent Service. Our server was a nice guy and helped with the menu selection. Good Food that was beautifully plated. - Bread service - I know it's just bread but damn this bread is a beautiful creation of dough and baked to perfection. - Harvest Vegetable Bisque is fantastic! And completely plant based so don't let the "bisque" in the name scare you away. - Red Abalone appetizer - don't bother as you don't get to taste the abalone. The brioche and sauce overpower the abalone... so all you taste is brioche and butter sauce. - The farm fowl is hearty and comforting. The quail is quite tender. Loved all the veg in the dish too. - Salmon was perfectly prepared... meaty yet tender. Sadly the low points.... outweigh what should have been a lovely dinner out. - We received our wine AFTER we were mostly done with our appetizers. We even waited to start enjoying our appetizers thinking our wine would be out at the same time. Since my soup was getting cold, I could not wait any longer and had 1 bite left when our wine finally showed up. - Our server seemed overtaxed. It appeared he was trying to help literally everyone from what I could tell and disappeared for long stretches of time. - The 1 mom (sitting at the table behind us) constantly telling her toddler to sit down (the toddler was actually quiet, it was the mom that was irritating). - The multi family, multi kid large table that sat in the middle of the patio (while not super noisy) was disruptive with the kids constantly walking around all the tables and going back and forth from the patio to the "outside" down the stairs by our table. Seriously... your kids don't care that you want to sit and drink and hang out... they want to move and play and be kids. Eat and then take them someplace else.

We came back for my birthday and it turns out this restaurant runs on a strict one-birthday-per-couple policy. The host wished me a happy birthday on the way in, and that was the last acknowledgment I'd get all night. Our waiter treated the table like a myth he'd heard about but never confirmed existed. Water refills required multiple requests and were still somehow optional. A steak knife did eventually materialize, but only after I asked, meaning I spent a solid chunk of dinner sawing away with a butter knife slicked in butter. And dessert showed up 30+ minutes after we ordered it, at which point it wasn't dessert anymore, it was a surprise second meal. Not once did he apologize or acknowledge anything was off, which honestly might be the most impressive part of the night. Total commitment to the bit. Then the salmon, which we ordered off the dog menu, arrived after my wife and I were basically finished with our meal. The rice felt like it had spent the evening chilling in the walk-in fridge, and the potatoes were still raw enough to plant. We loved this place once. Now, if you're staying at the hotel, do yourself a favor and just order room service.

It didn't really matter because the eight of us had the continental breakfast in the common room every morning and there was plenty of coffee available there. For breakfast they had coffee cake, fruit, hard boiled eggs, granola, and juices. I brought additional food for everyone, which the staff didn't mind. Everyone liked the continental breakfast. We ate at the restaurant on Friday evening. I made reservations well in advance, which was a good thing because it was quite busy. They set us up in a private dining room with a window. I had the special prime rib because it was so good last time I dined there. I ordered it medium rare and it was delicious again, except for the very center, which was so rare I couldn't cut it. The mashed potatoes and veggies that accompanied it were very good. Others ordered ribs and burgers, and everyone enjoyed their meal. The waitress was quite busy running around to all her tables, but she was as attentive as she could be with so many diners. Unfortunately, the reservation process was a major issue. Despite multiple calls ahead of time confirming room types and occupancy, several reservations were incorrect upon arrival, leaving guests scrambling to find rooms, adjust arrangements, or pay unexpected additional costs. The property itself is rustic but clean. We did not experience any bugs or critters, and the grounds are actually quite nice to explore. The rooms, however, are very basic and dated, with dark wood paneling, minimal amenities, cramped bathrooms, and inconsistent shower temperatures. Our decorative headboard was not securely attached and fell off the wall, which was unsettling, especially since one of the few outlets was underneath it. The refrigerator worked well, and the front desk provided extra towels when requested. The complimentary breakfast was simple but adequate (coffee, tea, hot cocoa, juice, melon, hard-boiled eggs, and coffee cake). We did not use the restaurant or bar during our stay. The property has a pool and event spaces that looked nice, although they seemed quiet during our summer weekend visit. Bonus: there are two resident cats, one very friendly and one more mangy. The best part of our stay was Colin at the front desk. He was kind, helpful, and went above and beyond, helping with questions, last-minute deliveries, and even assisting with a wedding-related printing request. Overall, I'd rate this as a solid 3-star hotel. It's clean, safe, and has a charming rustic setting, but the rooms and amenities are very basic. I would consider staying again only if the price was reasonable and options were limited.

It felt a little chilly at first with the door propped open, but the staff was incredibly attentive and quickly closed it. The restaurant itself is noticeably clean, and it's clear the staff works together as a true team--everyone was so kind and welcoming to me as a solo diner. One thing to be aware of is a 3.5% eco-tax on the bill, but that minor detail doesn't take away from my stellar review. The menu offers a good range of items at different price points, along with an array of tempting day's specials. I ordered the tomato salad, which came loaded with arugula, mixed greens, frisée, feta, and basil, all tossed in a delicious balsamic vinaigrette. It was incredibly light and refreshing, and it's easily large enough to split if you're with someone. For the main course, I had the pork chop tomahawk served with fingerling potatoes and fried Brussels sprouts. Wow! It is massive--definitely enough for two people or perfect for lunch the next day. I consider myself a bit of a pork chop snob, and it is notoriously tough to cook a cut that thick perfectly. Mission Bistro nailed it. It was phenomenally juicy and amazingly well-prepared. But not to overshadow the well cooked fingerling potatoes that were crisp and soft, simultaneously, and the fried Brussels sprouts-- no salt needed. It was seasoned perfectly. The staff here is so down-to-earth and genuinely kind. I highly recommend giving them a try. The crab cakes were hearty and packed with flakes of crab; the sauce that came with was refreshing and paired well with the crab. The Caesar salad was good too and generously dressed. As entrees, I ordered the Ora salmon in creamy risotto and my +1 order the steak and frites. The salmon was cooked very well and had a crispy crust. I wasn't expecting it to taste as delicious with the risotto but the flavors worked well. My +1's medium rare steak was cooked perfectly and the fries seemed like a bonus as the meat and appetizers were more than enough food. Service was great with friendly staff.
