    Clam chowder
    Saralee S.

We wanted to swing by Edgar's since it was a rainy day and they always have a cozy fire going in the dining room. We were greeted right away and shown to a spacious table near the fire. I like the way that the dining room is divided by banquets and a fireplace, as it makes for lots of intimate dining areas. I ordered the clam chowder, as I had been feeling under the weather, and my husband got a chicken quesadilla, one of his go to favorites. Accompanying these were a glass of Sauvignon Blanc for me and a tall ginger ale for my honey. I have to say that the clam chowder was the best I had during this last visit, when I got to sample three different offerings from various restaurants. It had a decent fish broth, not too floury, with nice big tender clams. The quesadilla was a very generous size, and full of white meat chicken. We like the peaceful atmosphere, far from the hustle and bustle of downtown Carmel, and had a good time chatting and making plans for the rest of our trip while we enjoyed the serene setting.

During our stay at the Quail Lodge and Golf Club, we had a wonderful dinner one night at Edgar's! We enjoyed outdoor seating with our dog, and a beautiful view. Bread and Butter - The bread came out SO hot and fresh, and the butter with chives was amazing. This was definitely a highlight!! Clam Chowder - I love clam chowder and order it almost every time it's on a menu. This included Yukon gold potatoes and smoked bacon. Classic Caesar Salad - Romaine lettuce, croutons, parmesan, and Caesar dressing. A nice, refreshing classic, and great way to start off the meal! Grilled Rib Eye - Came with green beans almandine, mashed potato, and Au Poivre sauce. This was delicious and I especially loved it with the sauce! Sorbet Trio - The three flavors were Prickly Pear, Mango, and Guava. It was presented beautifully and was perfect for summer. I loved all three flavors! Loved this meal and experienced wonderful service. Hope to visit again!

Great service! Tasty food!…read moreLovely dining atmosphere! Our Server was a lovely man who was patient with me as I asked questions and went through my usual indecision and finally landing on Butternut squash soup followed by Branzino. The soup Hit The Spot! Vegetable based (so no cream).... This soup was incredibly satisfying. Of course I love me some soup so this hit all my comfort notes on a cool evening after wine tasting and gallivanting all day. The Branzino was perfectly prepared... Just falling off the skin and melting in my mouth. Hubs enjoyed his steak thoroughly! I got a small bike and thought it was quite good.... tender, meaty, good flavor not over seasoned so you can actually taste the beef... Perfect chew. It had texture and was not mushy. All in all, a wonderful dinner experience that I would go back to again.

It tasted great and the texture was smooth . I enjoyed the pretty ceramic cups and plates . Tables setting were very classic and they seated us on a table by the window. We could over look the pond with a bridge and fountains . There were a group of geese playing around in the morning. Food was great . We had the two eggs omelette with a choice of bacon , ham or sausage . Plating was beautiful. The country potatoes came with red potatoes and brown potatoes. The side salad with vinaigrette dressing was fresh and delicious. We got toasts with butter and jam . So much food and I could not finish . The lobby outside was nicely decorated with decorative details . We enjoyed it very much .

Our waitress Rachel was great and took good care of us. We ordered the French dip (added Swiss, onions, and mushrooms) solid sandwich, though it could've used a touch more salt. The real star though, was the fish and chips. Genuinely some of the best I've ever had. Lightly battered, flaky, perfectly cooked. The vibe lands in that sweet spot of upscale casual without crossing into fine dining, comfortable but elevated. Highly recommend if you're passing through Carmel. We'll definitely be back.

The fish and chips is the ultimate meal. The burger was savory, soft and creamy just he right amount. It perfectly paired with the Talbott pinot noir they recommended. The only comment is make is the amount of French fries that were served with the burger. The plate was a lot larger looking because a sparse amount of fries was served alongside. Maybe add a little more next time just to balance it off. The servers/bartenders knew their stuff. They provided what they could in terms of what was popular and well liked. They said both items we ordered were the most popular. The fish and chips have won best fish and chips 3 years in a row. I would agree with this since I usually am not wowed with this dish. I couldn't resist ordering a dessert. The applied tart with vanilla ice cream was so satisfying. Overall service, food quality and experience was very good. If return over and over again for this same food and experience. If I could give 10 stars I would. Carmel and Brody's is a new destination.

We've been to Valley Kitchen dozens of times and the food gets better and tastier. It's evident that the chef and team explores how to incorporate fresh, local, and fine ingredients and bring to life the best of CVR's and California's identity to its dishes. Our favorites are the smoked salmon sourced from Santa Cruz and smoked at Valley Kitchen, Upside Down Hot Honey Cornbread .. and love how he uses the honey, cheese, and garden ingredients. At one point, we had strict diet restrictions and asked Chef Andrew to cook without sugar and to keep our meals below 5g of carb. Not only did we stick to our strict keto diet while traveling but we also fell in love with every single dish he made. Chef Andrew embraced this opportunity to test and adjust to meet our diet needs AND introduce us to new ingredients to include into our diet. We are forever grateful. On this trip, although we asked for his avocado dessert, he politely recommended Chef Molly's desserts. I love how he puts the entire team at the center of the experience. It's a team effort and the desserts were unique to Carmel -- especially with CVR lavender curd. The people who work at CVR and Valley Kitchen are top notch. They are extremely attentive, respectful, and friendly. Many of the servers have been there for years and it shows that when there is a good work culture that it translates to better customer service. The ambiance brings a combination of natural beauty, warmth and coziness (especially with the fireplace), and Californian modern and sleek. I love the Zafferano Pina lamps that provide an intimate experience and enough light to the table (need to see what we're eating!). Thank you, Chef Andrew and team for letting us experience culinary excellence while we rest and heal at our happy place.

The vinaigrette was fantastic, the bread was soft inside and crispy outside with the perfect bread to butter ratio (we had extra butter left over). My husband got the lobster roll which was good (not the best) but the brioche roll was great and very filled. I got the King Ora salmon which had complex flavor with miso, pepper and the cabbage was fantastic. For dessert we shared the basque cheesecake which was amazing. The fish and chips were inedible--the fish was gray on the inside and didn't look appetizing at all. The chicken sandwich came with wilted, brown lettuce and a tomato that was clearly spoiled. It had a sour taste and a foul odor that immediately ruined the entire sandwich. When we brought it to our server's attention, there wasn't even an apology. Instead of addressing the overall issue, he simply brought out another tomato. The chicken quesadilla was shockingly small, looked like something from a kids' menu, and had almost no flavor. Even the beer tasted off. At that point, it felt like every item that came to the table had a problem. The most surprising part was that the bathroom seemed cleaner and better maintained than the food being served. We spent around $140 and left wondering what exactly we paid for. To make matters worse, several members of my family felt sick after eating here. Between the poor food quality, lack of concern from the staff, and overall experience, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
