This is a go- to in Carmel Valley. I love Quail Lodge and if it is sunny anywhere on the Monterey Peninsula, it is here in this part of Carmel Valley. Service Is consistent, as is everything on the menu. Eating outdoors here is the move, overlooking the golf course. The Farmer's Market salad ( add your protein) is my favorite. We wanted to swing by Edgar's since it was a rainy day and they always have a cozy fire going in the dining room. We were greeted right away and shown to a spacious table near the fire. I like the way that the dining room is divided by banquets and a fireplace, as it makes for lots of intimate dining areas. I ordered the clam chowder, as I had been feeling under the weather, and my husband got a chicken quesadilla, one of his go to favorites. Accompanying these were a glass of Sauvignon Blanc for me and a tall ginger ale for my honey. I have to say that the clam chowder was the best I had during this last visit, when I got to sample three different offerings from various restaurants. It had a decent fish broth, not too floury, with nice big tender clams. The quesadilla was a very generous size, and full of white meat chicken. We like the peaceful atmosphere, far from the hustle and bustle of downtown Carmel, and had a good time chatting and making plans for the rest of our trip while we enjoyed the serene setting. read more

During our stay at the Quail Lodge and Golf Club, we had a wonderful dinner one night at Edgar's! We enjoyed outdoor seating with our dog, and a beautiful view. Bread and Butter - The bread came out SO hot and fresh, and the butter with chives was amazing. This was definitely a highlight!! Clam Chowder - I love clam chowder and order it almost every time it's on a menu. This included Yukon gold potatoes and smoked bacon. Classic Caesar Salad - Romaine lettuce, croutons, parmesan, and Caesar dressing. A nice, refreshing classic, and great way to start off the meal! Grilled Rib Eye - Came with green beans almandine, mashed potato, and Au Poivre sauce. This was delicious and I especially loved it with the sauce! Sorbet Trio - The three flavors were Prickly Pear, Mango, and Guava. It was presented beautifully and was perfect for summer. I loved all three flavors! We are so excited Edgar's restaurant at Quail Lodge has reopened after a five year hiatus. The new general manager and the new chef are turning this into a new hotspot. We dined Friday night, where they now bring in music and some great changes to the menu. Don't miss the barbecue ribs, they are the best! We returned Saturday night for the beef Wellington, which was out of this world. The staff has a new level of energy about them and the environment is hopping once again. read more

A lovely day sunny with a little wind right on the practice range. The lunch specials caught me as did the shrimp and lobster roll. Poached lobster mix with just a little light lemon mayo celery chopped up very fine. I ordered the half-and-half so I had half a lobster roll cup of soup and a half salad. $24. The clam chowder was excellent chock-full of juicy clams just enough celery small white potatoes as it should be! However, this delicious chowder was minus the extremely important oyster crackers. Substituting three saltines doesn't cut it for me! I was really done after the chowder so I was taking home the salad with crumbled bacon and blue cheese and that my lobster roll! read more

We were staying at the Quail Lodge and decided to try this place out. This place is located not on the hotel area but on the golf facility of this resort (5min drive). Once you get to the golf place it is located downstairs. You can see some of the golf trophies and amendities while walking in. We made reservations here for a party of 5. We were warmly greeted when we approached the hostess area and was quickly seated. When we got there this place was quiet and almost empty. Looks like some locals come here to hang out at the bar or eat and maybe if you are finishing a round of late golf a good place to eat. We had the filet salmon which was delicious and the halibut dish. For the kids, we ordered the chicken tenders and the pasta with the marinara sauce. The pasta was very simple, I would prob have gotten something different in the future on it. Since we came in at 730pm we ordered desert close to 830 where the waitress told us that they give you ice cream on the house for a birthday. We ended up getting the vanilla ice cream and I got the molten chocolate lava something. It was delicious not like Roy's but just as flavorful. Just towards the end of the night it seamed like the staff was gone or cleaning so we had to flag someone down to get our to go boxes and check to go. Over all I would come again to eat. read more

I am a local, born and raised in the Carmel area. I have been having lunch at Edgars for years and the food has gotten worse and worse. Today was my last time I will eat at Edgars. The fish tacos had no flavor and actually tasted very odd. They served two very small taco's and a small amount of shredded cabbage for $18. The menu has gotten smaller and smaller and the food quality is not good any longer. The setting is lovely and great for getting together with people but the food is no longer any good. When I told the waiter that the taco's were not very good and we all ordered them, they just said they were sorry. Well, I am sorry I will no longer be coming to eat there! read more

I have eaten at Edgar's before and wasn't terribly impressed but last night was terrible. I was with friends and we ordered about 5 plates to share. I was disappointed in each dish. The pasta papardelle was especially disappointing, as the tomato sauce was bitter and tasted like it was from a can. The caesar salad seemed like it was from a pre-packaged salad mix. The sand dabs were ok, but bland. The food was not remotely worth the cost. The service was also off. Our server was lovely, until our dinner was served. After that, we never saw her again. No checking on us, no taking plates, no offering dessert or coffee. In fact, we had to ask a busser for our bill. And to add to the feeling, the staff also came and turned off the patio heaters, even though we were still sitting outside. We felt very unappreciated as guests of the restaurant. read more

We had an event to attend at the Quail so we decided to have lunch at Edgar's beforehand. Carmel establishments don't play fair when it comes to their outdoor atmosphere -- they have the advantage of gorgeous vistas that seem to go on for miles. The patio is extremely comfortable & offers views of the golf course. I imagine dinner here is extra cozy when the fire pit is lit. Our appetizers were sophisticated. His quality prawn cocktail & my rainbow-on-a-plate beet salad were a fantastic start to lunch, but our sandwiches -- a club for him & BLT for me -- reminded us of a certain chain diner. I'm aware we ordered quite low-brow dishes & perhaps their other offerings are better. We'll come back to try different items next time. We've yet to try dessert & the wonderful patio beckons me. Edgar's is Solid Food and Service. We dined at Edgar's three times while staying at Quail Lodge for the Jazz Weekender. With their varied menu there was always something to enjoy. We had the frito misto, prime rib, NY steak, creamy clam chowder, Pasta Calabrsese, Caesar salad, moules frites, a wonderful braised short rib, the burger and the onion rings. All very good. Edgar's has a reasonable corkage of $25, so we picked up a few bottles of old world Rhone and Italian (not their strong suit -- their wine list is mostly California) to enjoy with our meals. The waiter was assured his tip on the tag so guess it didn't matter. Total of over four hour there, why? From the get go it was sit and wait for hours with no apologizes. The manager walked in to see us all still waiting with with our small children who we're hungry but he didn't bother speaking to us. Recommend to them not advertising the brunch for special occasions if you don't have the staff or capacity to handle reservations. I recently went there with five friends for our monthly girls lunch date, and was so disappointed. Service was mediocre and all new people. We asked for bread and were told we could only get toast?! Salads were ok, but the French fries unrecognizable! These were amazing only three weeks before. Seems like the staff, including the chef, is being moved around and no one knows what they're doing. Got into Carmel late in the afternoon (7:45'ish) and we were hungry. The front desk host at the Quail Lodge recommended Edgar's since it was down the street and had some kid options. We were seated quickly since we caught the tail end of the Friday evening dinner rush. Just walking through the restaurant to our table, we noticed 60% of the customers were retired caucasian people that all seem to know each other, but they just stared the entire time. Only one older couple sitting next to us smiled. The other 40% of people were guys who were golfers and other families. No big deal, but the long stares through dinner was a bit awkward and uncomfortable. The food; HUGE portions but nothing to rave about. The Fritto Misto was average and greasy, Grilled Lamb Loin was a huge cut but the taste was a bit off. I think the tomatoes and pickled olives in it threw off the flavors. The pork chop was probably the highlight of everything that we ordered. The kids were being basic with their mac and cheese, so they have nothing to complain or rave about hahaha read more

Some days are so special to go out at a restaurant where the ambience must be unparalleled and have a nice, good dinner with family. So we landed on Edgar. The restaurant inside Edgar Lodge. The ambience was beautiful and the servers were courteous but if you ask me about the food I don't have much good to say about it. We ordered gnocchi, lamb with mashed potatoes and hubby ordered chicken. I will say that the food was now so good. The land was not well marinated and fresh. It gave out a smell and had no taste. I had ordered mashed potatoes so they gave some water thing under the lamb piece so I asked them to bring me a side of it. Still the mashed potatoes had a strange smell. I am not sure what they had put I stead of butter. Now the chocked was also just broiled with no flavor so it was just something very plain and lacked taste. The gnocchi was too watery and not too appetising. Overall the restaurant have everything but have bad food. How I wish if the chef learns how to make the dishes tastes better with a good rub and marinate fresh meat. I will give them 3 stars. I made reservations here for Thanksgiving based on these reviews and was so disappointed. It's not elegant, the service was so-so and the food was a disappointment. I swear the mashed potatoes came out of a box. My salmon dish was supposed to include Quinoa but came with none. When I asked the waiter about it he said "oh yeah I think you're right." Went back to the kitchen to check and then said "we sold out of Quinoa". Okaaayyyy. He graciously offered the awful mashed potatoes in its place. I would come back another time to sit outside and have a drink and an appetizer on the patio at sunset, but that's about it. read more

Very nice and spacious green place, it being just in front of the golf course. Very courteous wait staff. Meal selection is very well planned. I ordered my chicken with bacon sandwich, very large portion, shareable. But the whole sandwich was lacking in flavor. i solved the issue with a squeeze of hot sauce. The fruiti mare or mixed deepfried seafood was to die for. It came just with the right warm temperature, very crunchy, with big chunks of whole prawns, squid rings, etc. My sister ordered her tuna wrap and the nieces ordered tacos. This is a fun, laid-back place to have a bite to eat in the late afternoon. Why late afternoon? Because you can watch golfers finishing their game and order from either their lunch menu or happy hour, sometimes with an onlooking deer. The pet-friendly patio has a great view of the course with umbrellas or heaters. The food has been known to change often. I love the fact that it's sustainable, organic, hormone-free, grass-fed. The most recent change came to the lunch menu, where they allow 1/2 orders. This is great for smaller appetites or people who want to save money. That's why I suggest coming during happy hour. 1/2 order of salad and a happy hour drink hits the spot on a sunny Carmel Valley day. For example: Half burger is $9, full burger $15. Half Chopped Salad $7 Full $12. A half order of Sand Dabs is $16 and Full is $20. Though that's a pricey half-order, a friend had the full order and it is more than enough. I hope more restaurants start offering these half-order options because it cuts down on waste. It takes 20 years for a carrot to decompose, leaving toxic fumes in the meantime. But I digress, this is a pretty nice lunch spot with flexible options and unique, healthy items like a carrot hummus, along with traditional club fare but everything has a healthy, fresh feel (I love when I can eat meat in good conscience). They cook the food in a way that you're able to still taste the original flavors of each ingredient. The portion: Generous portions. The portion is enough to feel full but not stuffed. The service: From the moment we walked in we were greeted with a Smile. We were there for my sisters birthday and they accommodated our party of 6 and brought out the food in a timely mater. Our waitress was helpful and friendly. The ambiance: The restaurant is located in a beautiful golf course. And the restaurant has a cozy feel to it. After diner, we enjoyed siting outside for a few minutes to enjoy the scenery. The only reason why I did not give this restaurant 5 stars was because my salmon was undercooked. It was not really the restaurants fault since salmon is usually cooked that way, but it's more of a personal preference to have it cooked well done. This place is within walking distance of my house, which I take full advantage of. That is not to say that it is only proximity that brings me here. There are two closer places that I never walk to. The food has been so consistently wonderful lately. If they keep it up I will definitely amend this review to a 5 star. Really wish they had 1/2 stars because this is more than 4 stars. My guests have ordered the special, one night a brilliantly prepared rib eye with potato purée and fresh vegetables that were cooked and season perfectly. Really, they couldn't stop talking about the meal. I don't eat meat but have it on good authority it was unexpectedly delicious.?Another time it was the local salmon on offer that was just as magical. I'm always happy with their flatbreads, beautiful flower decorated salads, and luxurious soups! They are also happy to accommodate my vegetarian ways and make a plate of all their delicious sides. And then there's dessert! The lava cake with Armagnac ice cream is a decadent favorite! This is very much a golf/hotel feel as far as ambience goes but it is tasteful, comfortable, and has a lovely feel about it. The service has always been wonderful and very professional, which I love and appreciate as it seems to be an art lost on many restaurants at this level. Bravo to the wait staff! Came here after work for dessert with a friend. We initially were only going to have dessert but decided to have the Carmel Valley flat bread. It comes with 8 slices. Was Yummy! Our server Jessica was very attentive and provided us excellent service. We decided to split the Seasonal strawberry pie and Sundae. I really enjoyed the sundae and cookie chunks or pieces it has in there. So much flavor! Even though we did not have a reservation and arrived on the later side our service did not lack. We had quick lunch here while on a break from our Land Rover off road experience. Service was quick and friendly. I had the turkey, brie and cranberry sandwich and a side salad. I was impressed with the salad's freshness and flavor. It seemed like it was just harvested. The turkey sandwich was very good, although the broccoli they put on it could be skipped.
