Better than your average . . . Indian restaurant. Coriander has got the basics down pat. And by "the basics" I mean the foundations with which I first look at Indian restaurants . . . The naan (and roti) and the rice. If those things are good then I know the experience is going to be an excellent one. And Coriander rocks with respect to both. Their freshly made garlic naan was some of the best I've ever had, and their basmati rice was perfectly prepared. Liked our experienced server and the tandoori chicken and rice dishes and lamb we ordered were packed with flavor and hearty taste, as was the tamarind chicken and the vegetable pakora we had. The only downside? We were seated at a table that was cramped and where the bench seats were too close to the table and could not be moved. Led to an uncomfortable situation. Should have asked to be moved since we'd made a reservation and there was other larger bench seating available, but we'd never been there before and didn't know that was an option until we left and looked around at the rest of the restaurant. as soon as i saw all indian people eating here and not a white person in sight i knew it would be good. we ordered garlic naan, garlic roti, saag paneer (med hot), paneer tikka masala (med hot), dal malakai (med hot), and manchurian, veg korma ( med hot). i really enjoyed the naan, roti, and all the dishes except the veg korma. the veggies seemed frozen and the dish itself was very sweet with no spice at all. i also wished the manchurian was more spicy it was very sweet. the other dishes had a great spice. would come back and not get the korma. the portions are small but decent indian food. read more

I ordered the bharta makhani, an eggplant curry dish, with garlic roti. I thought it was the definition of mid. The roti was a little too buttery for my preference, and the overall dish lacked flavor. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing, but I was not impressed. Especially when the Vietnamese food around Denver is chefs kiss. The service was speedy and friendly, and the environment is a fairly casual sit down restaurant. Had some take out so I can't speak to the ambiance but the lamb briyani was amazing as was the lamb vindaloo. The plain naan was a little unseasoned in terms of butter or salt flavor but was still good- recommend to go ahead and order the flavored version if you're on the fence. The highlight of the meal though was the samosas, I could have eaten 5-6 of those. Warning- they're not playing around when they say that it's spicy. I thought it was good food! I got the paneer butter masala spicy and it was quite nice, flavorful, fresh, and a good portion. I did takeout and the service was very fast. My tasty food was literally ready in 10 minutes. They packed me up with a plate and silverware so I could eat outside and watch the Ferrari I had rented. We stopped here on our drive from Denver to Estes Park. We love Indian and we wanted a sit down restaurant so this was an easy choice. I did notice that the prices are a bit higher than in Dallas for Indian. My Punjabi samosa was good. The wife and I shared Chicken Tikka Masala and it was good but not enough sauce and the chicken was tough. One piece was burned so it had a bitter taste. The naan bread was good. I am really glad that I ordered a mango lassi because the creamy yogurt drink helped to calm down the spiciness. It tasted like a refreshing mango. Great service and food at this really clean establishment. They have a bar and indoor dining. There is no outdoor seating. The staff is very friendly and happy to be at work. We had the vindaloo-VERY HOT and the tikki masala. The pepper bullet naan is stuffed with Serrano peppers. We like slice but could not handle this level of heat. The staff was nice and replaced it with garlic naan. The manager said they never know the slice level of the pepper inventory they receive. That tells you they are using fresh ingredients. Here's my wonder for the restaurant: I moved here from NYC and the prices for the meals are similar. That part is okay. But, I paid $57+ for a meal and it was delivered to me in a plastic tied up bag. For the quality of what I ordered, I recommend something sturdier, like a stapled paper bag with a simple logo on it. Also, when ordering 2 entrees, I assumed I would get 2 servings of rice too? And lastly, in NYC, you would get (no matter what Indian restaurant it was), small servings of sauce & chutney to try with your food. It would make that $57 easier to swallow. read more

Ah. I had really looked forward to coming to this place. I live nearby and had seen it on the Yelp top 100 restaurants in Denver list, so I've been eager to try it. The food was great, but overall I was a bit disappointed. When we arrived, we waited in like behind 3 other parties to talk to the host. We noticed he wasn't writing anything down. He was kind of sporadically seating people. He told us he would have a table for us in a few minutes and to go sit at the bar until it was ready. In hindsight, I wish we had had our name written on a list and been given a wait time in an organized fashion because I believe we were forgotten about. We had to ask 30 minutes later to finally get moved to a table. We also noticed at one point that another employee also started seating tables without telling the main guy that was seating tables, and that threw everything off and the people the other employee sat had to be removed from their tables. This place could really benefit from a piece of paper at the host stand. Granted, it was the Friday of president's weekend. But the slow service continued. We waited for water, waited a long time for our appetizers (that we ordered from the bar) to find us at our new table, waited a long time to order entrees, and had to track down our waitress for the check. I will say that the food was wonderful! The coconut shrimp appetizer was perfection. The paneer channa masala was my personal favorite. The chicken dishes were all a bit dry, I assume it was a busy night in the kitchen as well. I really wanted to love this place, and I want to go back to give it another try. This is definitely one of better North Indian serving locations in continental USA. It was quite close to authentic Indian cuisine specially malai Kofta was pretty close to what it should be. We liked our naans with garlic. Rotis were soft and buttery. Perfect place with ample of seating if you are around Denver airport. The best part was they let us order at 2:15 pm when they close at 2:30 PM. Also could take our bottled waters inside as had to finish before boarding flights!
