Our two cars have gotten to the age where they need more tinkering and replacement parts. We are so…read moreglad we decided to give Scott a try. Saline Automotive Services is located in downtown Saline, just west of the main intersection of Main Street (US-12) and Ann Arbor-Saline Road. Scott is a parts expert. He is great at explaining what's wrong and how to fix it. Since it's a smaller sized shop, don't expect to just show up out of the blue. It's best to call a day or two ahead so that the work can be scheduled. You can leave the car any time--even at night--because there is a drop off box. Inside the box, you'll find an envelope with a pen and a form to explain the symptoms. Put the key in the envelope along with your info and let it slide into the box, where it's safe. Because Saline Automotive shares a parking lot with a church (my church!) they ask that you pick up your car promptly on weekends, since the church might have an event that causes the parking lot to fill to capacity. Insider Tip: Usually, if there is going to be a big event, you'll see a portable sign for it on the front lawn of the church. But not always, so keep that in mind when figuring out when to pick up your car. Saline Automotive doesn't have a shuttle vehicle, but they offer you a loaner car, which might be even better. Scott's prices are awesome. When Goodyear quoted $515, Scott's guys fixed it for $299. I feel very confident that the guys will fix what needs fixing and keep our cars running fine.

It is easy to get an appointment and a fix is usually a same day turn over. The pricing is pretty good too. The best part is that I can drive away knowing that my car is fixed and dependable.

On the first try I went to Costco with an appointment. After waiting 45 minutes, they told me they still were not ready and did not know when they would be. So I cancelled and left. Costco is famous for making people wait to excess. On the 2nd try I went to Monroe with an appointment, but they said they did not see the apointment on their system - it being a new off-shore reservation system that did not always work. We left the car. We came back in 45 minutes and they had not started. They were confused about which car was my car thinking it needed transmission cover work. I finally got them to look at the tire, and they said they could not find a leak but to come back if it keeps leaking. That was after I had already explained that I was refilling it every few days when I took it in. Communications at Monroe needs work. So on the third try I wend to Express Tire Saline with an appointment. They started on it right away. They spent no small time diagnosing the problem. It was not the tire nor the valve as I had thought. It was corrosion around the rim allowing the slow leak. They had to dunk it in soapy water and then remove the tire from the rim altogether to find this, and then they had to grind off the rim corrosion to fix it and apply a rim sealant. For $28 cost to me (staying with their phone price quoted) I think they deserve some Kudos here. The tire has not lost any air since they took care of this. I highly recommend Express Tire Saline for tire repair, and they do other work there too. :-)

This is an updated review several weeks after I visited for service. To keep it short and sweet, my…read moreAC went out. I took it to Phil's to have it fixed. I paid about $400 for the repair on the AC initially, which didn't fix the problem. I took it back and was quoted and ADDITIONAL $1,500 to replace the compressor. (That would have made this an almost $2,000 air conditioning repair.) Industry average cost is less than half of what they quoted me. I took it to another professional and had it done for $500, where they found another issue with the AC that Phil's either never mentioned or never found. I brought up my gripe with Kris directly and was met with hostility. The shop wouldn't communicate via text or email and instead responded to my requests for explanation of costs only by phone or in person, which I assume is because Kris wanted twist words to spin the narrative. To quote him, "Don't you remember me saying x, y, z." It genuinely felt like I was being gas-lighted and manipulated into feeling "wrong" for questioning their pricing and being upset that they charged me $400 for something I didn't need. I would never send someone to Phil's Undercar after the experience I had there. I'd suggest you avoid them like COVID-19. (Which their staff didn't seem to be bothered by enough to wear masks, by the way!)

Had some tires installed here, which went well enough, but was then told that the "steering seized." Since that's not actually a thing people use to describe suspension in my experience, I then asked that somebody show me what they were talking about. Turns out the tie rod adjusters were seized and they recommended the tie rod be replaced--fair enough. The vehicle is well maintained and I regularly do preventative maintenance so I thought that's all they'd quote me for. Nope--they also recommended a full replacement of the drag link (I can tell you this was not seized), a new battery (with $85 for labor for a 5 minute job I normally do myself in the AutoZone parking lot), complete fluid changes (including transmission fluid every 30k miles which is--quite frankly--absurd unless you're driving a taxi or Ferrari), new spark plugs, and new filters (but not the cabin air filter, which they incorrectly told me my vehicle doesn't have). Grand total on the recommended work? A sneeze under $5,000. I spent the night wondering if my vehicle was actually falling apart and then ran the quote past a mechanic friend in the morning. He just about shot coffee out of his nose--according to him about 1/5 of that was appropriate and even that was being offered at a premium. I'd like to give folks the benefit of the doubt here but having read the reviews here I get the sense my experience is not unique. I won't be going back.
