Such a nice thing to be able to choose your preference. and a nice selection of beers, snacks, and fried things This may not be the cheapest place to get a lobster roll in a 20 mile radius, and some of the menu prices have not reflected the recent dip in dock prices, however, this is hands-down, the best place *the freshest* tasting lobster roll IMO and a bit heftier than Corea Lunch on the wharf's roll. I always take and recommend our visitors stop here as it's only about 10 minutes from our home. One small minor recommendation I would make is for them to invest in more umbrellas for shade for the few hot days we get up this way :)

It's a fisherman-owned shack right on the bay -- informal, friendly, and exactly the kind of unpretentious Maine spot you hope to run into. Honestly, everything we ordered was excellent, so it's hard to single out just one thing. The hot-butter lobster roll was soft, fresh, and generous -- better than the other lobster rolls we'd had on the trip (I paid a little extra for hot butter over the cold/mayo version and would do it again). The lobster empanadas were a nice surprise: crispy from being fried, and while there's some filler beyond the lobster, the meat-to-filling ratio is good and the added flavor works -- I'd order those again. The clam chowder was rich and creamy without being gluey. Bonus points for the kids: a Lego play table kept ours happily occupied, and they did simple cheese quesadillas the kids actually ate. I also had a Pulp Truck IPA from Marsh Island Brewing -- which is what we would call a "Hazy IPA" or "New England IPA" on the West Coast, but here is simply an IPA. Regardless, it was quite good. About half tasted fresh and briny, while the others didn't seem as fresh, making for a mixed experience overall. Looking back, I probably would've skipped the oysters and ordered another lobster dish or their famous lobster roll instead. Blueberry Pie: For $14, this wasn't my favorite. The blueberry filling was a little too sweet for my taste. The buttery crust paired nicely with the scoop of vanilla ice cream, but I don't think it justified the price. I questioned why the steamers did not come with hot water to dip the clams to get shake out sand and grit. The cook said she "will get some but these steamers are clean." She was right. Only melted hot butter was needed (no need to water down your clams and loose flavor). Once I finished 2 dozen, I asked about the butter still being so clear and not coagulating. "We only use Cabot salted butter slowly melted." It made a world of difference in taste. Had so much butter left that I ordered another dozen!! My wife ordered the halibut burger. Another hit!! A big piece of fish lightly battered. The owner said it is a new addition to the menu, I am sure it's going to remain for a very long time. To top it off, the service was fantastic. Our order was taken by the owner's granddaughter and she just lovely. I went back to the counter to tell her how great the food was when I noticed blueberry pie slices for sale. I asked how the slices are and her face just lit up when she said "it's amazing." I ordered an entire pie!! She was sooo right and dare I say one of, if not the, best blueberry pie I had in Maine so far!! We came back the next day to try the lobster rolls. We have been in Bar Harbor for 5 days and tried lobster rolls at several recommended places in town and at some of the "pounds". All of which were expensive and small portions. Not here!! The Happy Clam Shack was less expensive for more lobster and better tasting!! I really enjoyed the sweet tasting coleslaw that came with the meal. We also ordered a dozen steamers!!
