On the way back from a long day in the woods, my hunting buddy and I drove by a small unassuming trailer in the parking lot of a consignment store on Main St. Next to the tiny trailer was a rocking chair and a HUGE smoker billowing smoke out the stacks. Not something you see every day in Newport Maine. Well, we just had to stop in and see what it was all about. As soon as we parked, the owner popped out of the trailer and told us that he had opened about a week or so ago after having relocated from Houston (There's got to be a lot more to the story, but who am I to pry?). We chatted him up for a few minutes more and decided we'd grab a sandwich for his time. I wish we had tried two different items so we could have given a little more of a comprehensive review, but we both went with the brisket sandwich and potato salad. There was a choice of pulled chicken, pulled pork and the brisket. All smoked of course, and all priced from $7-$9. The brisket was served on a regular hamburger roll and was packed with a great portion of meat. Sauce was tangy, and applied lightly so you can enjoy the smoked flavor. Delicious, tender and a filling portion. We both agreed. The potato salad was homemade and you could taste the pickle juice, bits of chopped pickles and a heavy black pepper seasoning. Unique flavor. It was really good, and I'm a tough critic of potato salad. Only complaint? Man, it was waaaaay too warm. Not even like room temperature, but warm. I definitely prefer my mayo drenched salad on the cool side, but whether it was on purpose or not, there were no, er adverse effects if you know what I mean, so I'd say it was fine. We'll definitely be back and I would recommend you give it a shot if you're in the area. Not sure how long he can be out there because winters right around the corner, and he'll either be buried in snow or freeze his ass off. But, it is right next to the snowmobile trail so maybe he's a lot smarter than me on that one..... read more
