I'm excited to have a restaurant to be excited about in Newport again. If I could give 6 stars I would. Highly recommend, I'll absolutely be a rigging forward.

I hate when the store becomes the front of the restaurant it just annoys me. Also had looked at the menus online and none of them had the prices that we paid so I took a picture of the new prices as of July 2024. Most assuredly much higher than what was shown online. I would also agree that the people who run this place seems irritated that we actually stopped to order food, but I think it might just be his personality. With all the external negatives about this place, I have to say the food was good. They were very busy with lots of people coming in and getting pick up orders. I probably wouldn't sit here and eat because I feel like I'm eating in their store room, but I do have to say the food is good , I'm giving them 3 stars because they need to clean the place up

Well, it is our hometown Chinese option so we will keep trying, but I daresay if we are driving to or through Newport before we order, we may well use one of their options instead.

I had a craving for Chinese food heading back to So Maine from Greenville. This restaurant is…read morepretty much takeout it seems. Although they have a large space, there is rarely someone eating in that I have seen. We had 2 combo dinners (D1 & D4). Dinners all come with fried rice. First off, they weren't providing in the bag utensils, or napkins until I asked. I asked for lots of napkins and the waitress grabbed 2 paper towels. You'll see the issue with this in a second. My dinner had an egg roll, bbq spareribs, and beef teriyaki on a stick. My son's had chicken wings, crab Rangoon, and egg roll. I had asked for lots of duck sauce. I got into the car and the plastic bag had been tied off in knot. They had plastic cups with lids stacked up in the bag precariously with the duck sauce, that tipped as the bag was being opened. One did not have the cover on securely and dumped completely all over the food boxes and the floor of our car. 2 paper towels were like a drop in a bucket as to what we needed to clean up the mess as we were already on turnpike. We'd eaten from here years ago and a remember liking it. The food this time was ok. Best thing was the egg roll. Not greasy, and how a Chinese egg roll should taste. The meat was all underwhelming with no real flavor. Beef was bland with no discernible teriyaki flavor. The pork did not have any crispiness or sticky ah so sauce on it. My son said the crab rangoons were full, but filling had little flavor, as well as the chicken wings. The rice was average tasting because of the lacking in flavor pork, but at least not greasy. Portion size was respectable. Waitstaff was friendly. I had sticky duck sauce on my hands for the 2 hour ride home...

Asked for duck sauce and soy sauce... definitely got soy but not really sure if it was duck sauce - tasted so sweet my wife thought it was apple sauce. Beef lo neon my daughter ate half of, my dad felt similarly about his shrimp lol neon, my sesame beef was ok. The pork fried rice wasn't even hot and egg rolls were just ok. My dad commented - they serve the nearby college so what did you expect? Well that about sums it up. It's a mostly take-out place but we wanted to dine in. It's basically a 2 person show. The woman was very nice and does all the cooking. We ordered beef lo mein, chicken and broccoli with fried rice, hot and sour soup and wonton soup. Our initial impressions were "wow" the portions were huge! We do love leftovers! There were a ton of veggies and meat in both dishes. The veggies could not have been any fresher. They were not soggy and cooked perfectly. The meat was also generous and very tender, not fatty at all. There were even loads of veggies in the soups. I typically don't care for the pork in the fried rice but this pork I was picking out to eat separately. It also was all meat and tender. The food was excellent. The food is exactly what you'd expect when craving classic Chinese cuisine--fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The Pupu platter is always a go-to for our family, with a great variety of items to share. I also appreciate the Special pricing to add fried rice or lo mein as side dishes. Service is fast and efficient, both for takeout and dining in. The staff is friendly and accommodating, although there were minor moments during our dine-in visits where the attention to detail could have been slightly better--but, I have been a server for 24 years and probably have a high standard. I'd say the focus is more on the food than the dining experience itself. Overall, New Garden is a solid, less expensive choice when you're craving Chinese food. While there's room for small improvements, the delicious food and convenient service keep us coming back. Did I mention that they DELIVER! (Wish I lived close enough to take advantage of the option.) Definitely worth a visit if you're in the mood for dependable takeout or a casual dine-in experience!
