The call in process was easy once I reviewed their online order. Upon entering the restaurant to grab our takeout order, the staff member was rude when I asked for plasticware and paper plates for eating our food. We ordered 4 spring rolls which were very greasy considering that they were overpriced at $14.00. We oredered one shrimp fried rice and chicken fried rice as well. The portion size was very plentiful, but there was not much shrimp or chicken. It was mostly all rice and hardly any protein. read more

We were hunting Asian food while near Camden so we stopped in for lunch. Lunch specials are typical fare- includes egg roll or crab Rangoon. Good selection. Food was OK but felt like egg rolls were frozen items not made in house. Fried rice was a bit dry. Service was speedy. Ambiance was fine, banquet style chairs and tables. I have read some pretty bad reviews but my husband took me here for lunch and it absolutely blew my mind. I can't really comment on the prices because everything is expensive now days but I will say.. WORTH IT! If you live in Maine you know that salt and pepper is the most seasoning you will get on your food. There is not spice around here and "blackened" fish just means they burned it. Moving here (being the foodie that I am) from a Southern state where everything is seasoned, it's sad for me All of that being said, this was the BEST food I have had in the couple of years I have lived in small town Maine! Our appetizers came out within 10 minutes, and it was fresh. The crab Rangoon and Teriyaki chicken on a stick literally brought tears to my eyes. Once the rest of the food came out I was just blown away. WARNING : if you do not like bell peppers, don't order anything that said "mixed vegetables" I love them but my husband doesn't. The seats were cozy, everything was clean, and the staff was friendly. The General Tso's chicken was my favorite! It's not super spicy like I'm used to but it was fantastic. Decided to do takeout for lunch on a rainy day. The place was empty but the staff was friendly and prompt. The food was ready at precisely the stated time and I was pleasantly satisfied with the product. The portions were plentiful and everything tasted freshly made. I loved the pork filling in the dumplings and they had the perfect chewiness on the exterior. The chicken in my general Tso's was perfectly fried, juicy and had a delicious sauce on the exterior. I will absolutely include Camden island in my rotation of takeout options. read more

I was not going to write a review because I hate to leave bad reviews, people struggle to make a living. But, the day after my husband and I were sick sick sick from our lunch here, I went to have my hair done and we got to talking about restaurants... turns out my hairdresser's mother and brother ate here the same day as us and were VERY sick. Both of them. That's 4 people in one day. I swear it is an enigma. A couple times take out soup was absolutely delicious. We made the mistake of going back again this past week, got the same tofu & black mushroom dish that I gave a very bad review to (I forgot how bad it was). The thing is, I truly believe these people HATE working in this restaurant. They are always rude, always mad, never nice, never ever ever smile. (all of them!) We bend over backwards to engage the owner thinking maybe something is wrong in his life. What a joke! This attitude shows up in the food and you will feel it. The vegetables in the food seem to have no taste whatsoever, they must come out of a big can. My above tofu & mushroom dish was watery and tired, both kinds of mushrooms were huge and tough and gross. Gross! The pad thai was greasy with more horrid vegetables. The pork tasted like old cardboard. It's not a beautiful ambience. It's scary. If you sit in a booth you are down in a hole and uncomfortable. The rug is dirty. I came in for a late lunch/early dinner around 3pm with my two small children. The restaurant was open but completely empty. The waitress was extremely rude to us the whole time. She sat on the bench to the left of the entry way where she could see the booth we were in and continuously talked loudly on her phone through an ear piece, ignoring us almost the entire time we were there. She came to the table to take our order, then to deliver our food then I was forced to get up with my two small kids in tow to tell her we needed our check and give her my card so we could pay after waiting a very long time after clearly finishing. She finally brought boxes after being specifically asked then I went up to the counter to ask for a bag for my boxes, she was rude again and told me I took too many napkins. Please note, I collected 6 napkins for me and my two small children to eat our food again at the park. Picture attached. Mm!!! I'm Chinese American and I thought this was a great restaurant. While staying in Camden with my family we ate here 3x and loved each time. Overall, flavors textures and serving size were all yummy and exceeded expectations! Loved the mapo tofu, general tso chicken, any of the noodles, (Chowfun, udon noodle), the home style tofu, general tso tofu (that crispiness!), the asparagus and shrimp...mm!! Came here last night for the first time expecting good things, especially since it was highly recommended. As we walked in we were greeted and immediately got a table. The ambience was beautiful everything looked clean including bathrooms. I ignored the fact that there was only one couple in the restaurant I gave the restaurant, a chance despite of the lack of customers the restaurant seemed to have inside AND the mixed reviews on yelp. For starters our waiter, looked very annoyed/impatient serving us. I ended up ordering crab Rangoon's, wonton soup, and the Beef Chow Foon. The wonton soup and Crab Rangoon's were the only thing tolerable to eat. On the other hand, the beef chow foon was completely bland and I explained to TWO waiters that I could not eat it since it lacked flavor, and if it could kindly get removed from my bill, I explained that I was comfortable paying for the soup and the crab Rangoon's since that was the only thing I ate. Long story short i ended up going back-and-forth with TWO waiters that became very hostile towards me. They demanded that I paid for the plate even though I didn't touch it. If you want to get treated with respect and receive good customer service, I recommend going elsewhere where they will do anything to please there customer to come back again. read more

I ordered my meal in person for takeout. Small Chicken chow Mein. When I walked back to hotel I discovered there was no rice. I called the restaurant. Employee stated rice only comes with dinner Chicken Chow Mein. I then looked a menu.....no dinner Chicken chow Mein. Only large and small. Neither says anything about inclusion or exclusion of rice. I think they are improving! When they first opened the service was not great, take-out slow, and front of house staff just was ill-trained in Chinese restaurant food. Then came the out-of-state wait-staff and it has improved. It is unfortunate that adequate training was not provided to summer staff as they endured a torturous period at the opening as did the customers. Food - in general it is very good. Some minor yet common issues... spicy food should be a lot spicier, huge thick dumplings are just not good whether steamed or as pot stickers (not sure where they buy these but they should order something different or make them themselves), beef can be tough (get better beef, we will pay more for it), and size of pieces of vegetables and meat are too large for those eating with chopsticks. Yes, there are knives and forks, but at a Chinese restaurant one should not need to use them. If you order the real Chinese dishes (versus Americanized Chinese food) they are really quite good and the menu includes dishes not often found in this region. Example: Spicy Eggplant, Ma Po Toufu, Salt and Pepper Shrimp, and the Sichuan dishes are all pretty good as are the garlic sauce dishes when ordered spicy. Go there with average expectations and they will exceed them. Go there with Chinatown or China expectations, well that is your problem not theirs. Prices are fair and not overpriced for the portion sizes and food quality. read more

We stumbled on this place only because it's one of the few restaurants open later than 8 (due to Covid). It was good! Super friendly and attentive staff. I'm health conscious and they have several dishes of a steamed protein plus lots of steamed veggies. Served with a side of sauce and spicy chili on request. Awesome! I never thought I would see Chinese sausage again but Camden Island has it! Yeah, ok a few service lapses due mainly to shortage of personnel and a huge take-out business e.g. dishes could've been hotter when arriving at the table, also things like appetizers brought out with entrees. Me and my family were in the Camden town on vacation for a boat ride. It was about 8 pm when we got off the boat, and we could not find a single restaurant open. So, we found this place a little down the street. That was the best decision we have ever made. ever. The most amazing Chinese food you could ever give your tastebuds the honor to taste. The prices are perfect. The food is immaculate. The lemon honey tea is jaw dropping. The egg rolls??? phenomenal!! The dumplings??? EVEN BETTER. I am in a restaurant for the first time, in a long time. Camden Island is a joy to finally return to. After the failing of my marriage, the breaking of my leg and my spirit, returning to Camden Island Chinese Restaurant is kinda like going back home. Both the Owner and the wait staff welcomed me back, and remarked how long it's been since they have seen me. Sitting down, the same relaxing music played, enhancing the luxurious surrounding from from the beautiful chandeliers, to the enjoyable color changing stain glass wall pieces to the tan and goldenrod carpet that adds to the atmosphere. As for the menu and the food, exactly what you would expect with a few pleasant surprises. I personally chose sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, crab Rangoon, and Hon Su Gai Chicken meat dipped in batter fried and then sauteed with select Chinese vegetables, but they offer a large variety of food ranging from Peking Duck to some of the best curry found in Maine....
