But with the price jump to $30 I decided to try the $18 lobster stew and a small order of the fresh cut french fries. I love coming here. It's basically a food truck, that's taken over a street corner with a small parking lot and several picnic tables and seating areas. They only take cash or checks, so be aware of that. The french fries were divine. And a small serving was in fact quite large. The lobster stew was more of a very light bisque. The flavor was wonderful and while there was some lobster meat, it probably deserved more for the price. First time at this establishment and was pleasantly surprised how quickly our orders were ready. We came about 15 minutes of them closing and they greeted us with smiles ready to get our orders. We had the Haddock Cake Sandwich and Lobster Roll with a side of Maine French Fries. So yummy and very flavorful. H.J. Blakes is a small truck on the side of the road, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Yet, they had one of the freshest lobster rolls I've ever had. The added butter to pour over the top was delicious, the mayo sauce had a hint of lemon and really enhanced the lobster roll. This is one of the closest eateries near us and again, like Scapes, we are very lucky to have it! They are seasonal, Holly closed on 9/14/24 for the 2024 year. I have enjoyed everything I've had here- the haddock burger is bigger than one would expect and I usually can't fill it. The Maine-ah dog has inspired me to make my own at home- but it's such a great deal for a really really good meal near me. My friend from Alabama had the lobster roll here and at McLoons in spruce head and she said this one was the better one! I always have to get fries here- they are phenomenal. I'm not a fries person but I will always order them. Holly has come out to check on our meals each time I eat there. It's a unique experience, eating at a 4 way intersection in the middle of the woods and I miss it in the winter when I want a quick meal. Our order was ready when requested and was freshly made. The lobster rolls were overflowing with delicious fresh lobster meat and the roll was crisply buttered and toasted. I really like to support local business, and our family has been supporting Holly's business in the summer since they opened about 5 years ago. Holly's crew does a great job with Maine summer basics in their tiny food truck, and they've been steadily improving their outdoor seating every summer. I've always thought them a bit overpriced for both the setting and the fare, but as they do a good job I've continued to support them. However, this summer I had quite the sticker shock when getting a bacon cheeseburger, veggie burger and a large fries -- what cost $19.25 last summer cost $32.50 this summer! I'm used to overpriced food truck fares (have lived in SF, Seattle, NYC and Portland Maine) but this was way beyond the pale, especially as the veggie burger almost doubled in price (from $8.50 to $15) in just one year. It makes me both puzzled (why the drastic change?) and sad as it means we won't be eating there again. read more

Found this treasure after spending the morning at Dew Wildlife Sanctuary. This permanent food stand is clean, colorful, and inviting. It offers covered picnic tables in the sun or shade. Owner/Chef is on-sight. We ordered haddock cake sandwiches and hand-cut fries. Oh my! I had no idea what to expect, but if I had expectations they would have been far surpassed... The large sandwich consisted of fresh, flakey haddock mixed with just a bit of egg, crumbs, Vidalia onion and herbs. It was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, covered in melted havarti and accented by her homemade tartar with dill. The bun was not too thick, soft and flavorful. It was perfection. The fries were crispy outside an potato-y inside. Not greasy or heavy. Very lightly salted. The vinegar was in a spray bottle, so we were able to coat the fries perfectly. Loved it! If I am ever in the area again, I will seek out HJ Blake's (and more for goodness sakes)! read more

This is a 5 star spot. The current owners took over this spot and upgraded hugely. The lobster roll is supreme. The roll perfectly grilled with a flavored aioli and drizzled butter. The hot dogs are grilled with a natural casing, a perfect grilled roll and extras like morses sauerkraut. The burgers are excellent. All the products are fresh and local with salads and sides.
