I had take out today 8/12/2016 and it was not good. Let me say I've eaten there several times and had take out in the past and the food was good. Today, not. I had shrimp mofungo, one of my favorites. It was dry and lumpy and the sauce soaked in and disappeared. My husband had the pork chops and they were over fried. I think we're done. read more

Good food! I ordered the sole! It was delicious! My husband ordered the bistec! It was awesome! We ordered tostones. They were not as crispy as I like but they were still good! We also ordered rice and beans! The red beans were good but lacked Sazon Latino. They tasted a little generic! All and all the meal was good though! I would go again! read more

A friend of mine recommended Coquito and last minute after doing some shopping near by with my wife and girls, I decided to give it a try. Let me tell you, I am happy that I decided to go to Coquito! The place is nice inside and parking is available. We decided to sit outside which was great! The waitress Maria was delightful! I was born and raised in NYC and many time I am afraid to dive into Latin food in Orange County. I have had some bad experiences. I have found a good one!! My wife was also happy with her food and dessert! Happy wife, Happy life! She ordered the skirt steak with maduros, I had the mofongo (pork), my girls had rice and beans! For dessert a tres leche and cafe con leche. We left very satisfied! I highly recommend. We plan on going back on a Saturday night because they have a DJ and dancing! Although a bit cramped , overall decor is pleasant. However the food was barely edible. Anyone of a Latin decent would quickly recognize how poorly the food was prepared and the lack of Latin authenticity .It is an out right shame they can fool the general novice and stay in business. The only thing worse than the food was when owner Annette Brandy Barretto engaged in a conversation with our party regarding our dissatisfaction. Besides being Latin, several of us have been in the service business for many years. Her lack of restaurant knowledge was quite evident when she told us we simply made the incorrect menu selection! Her lack of professionalism was beyond disturbing. We felt as if we were speaking to an owner of a hot dog truck! We suggest finding a new chief (sorry part owner Bill, you have to get out of the kitchen) , or discontinue serving food, stick to liquor and music! read more

Delicious food, live music, excellent service... highly recommended!

Coquito was closed briefly but reopened recently . Went to this great restaurant twice in past few weeks with husband and again with friends . The atmosphere and decor are hip and pleasant. There are a few outdoor tables as well. The owner is friendly and attentive, the young waitresses very warm and enthusiastic. The food is really wonderful, fresh, nice flavors and generous portions. Anyone from Orange County knows there are limited places to eat. This restaurant was highly recommended to me on many different occasions. I have heard all great reviews about the food and entertainment. Granted it was a Saturday night and most people tend to go out to eat on Saturday nights, I have to say I am highly disappointed with the what I am assuming is the owner the restaurant (dyed blonde hair). If she continues to treat people the way she treated myself and two other people, she will fail as a business woman. She should pride herself as being a successful female small business owner and learn what customer service is all about. Turning people away from your establishment is not what I would like to call being successful. Not only did she not offer other solutions, takeout or coming back at a later time or even having a drink at the bar, she flat out said we couldn't eat at her restaurant. You don't have to a rocket scientist to know basic customer service skills. Its not like we showed up in sweatpants and a sweatshirt! I can understand if she is trying to attract a specific demographic but you never turn down people who are willing to pay; especially in this economy. I think it was because I am African American. Unfortunately, I will never return to this restaurant and will continuously encourage others not to eat here. Hopefully some other business owner will open a competitive Spanish/ Puerto Rican restaurant that is also a savvy business owner. read more

I lovvvvve it here. I've been going since when this place was "Backyard Grill". It is completely revamped since and its style changed, but as good as ever! My favorite dish that I typically always get is the skirt steak. It is sooo hard to find skirt steak at restaurants and to this day this is the best prepared one I've had out! So juicy and flavorful and the price is right for the huge meal you get. The owner is so friendly and the service good. Me and my boyfriend once had to wait quite awhile for our food at the bar since tables were all full and we got free coquito drinks! :) They used to offer a "Mexican pizza" meal or appetizer as well and I think have since gotten rid of it. I highly recommend bringing this back please! read more

If you are looking for good customer service look else where. My family chose Coquito based on the menu and reviews. We made a reservation and arrived on time. We had plenty of drinks, appetizers, entrees, and desserts. They brought the bill to the table right after they brought over the desserts and coffee. We paid the bill which was over $450 and only minutes later I heard the hostess/manager (not sure what she was but she was dressed up) tell the waitress we needed to leave. She then proceeded to walk over to our table pick up glasses and say "It's time to leave now." She was completely rude and didn't even let us finish our drinks that we just received and paid for! The food was okay, but considering how much money you pay and how rudely you are treated is absolutely absurd. I would not recommend this spot to a friend nor will I be back. read more

What a great place! The food is excellent. I had the Chilean Sea Bass, which was cooked to perfection. The rice and beans were so flavorful as were the fried plantains. Went there for Mother's Day last year and this year. (Never next year). Very pricey but food was good. Waiter, Kevin, was fantastic. He took his time explaining dishes and drinks, making suggestions and very pleasant. If I could give a star rating for just the waiter it would be 5 stars for him alone. The owner, I believe her name was Annette, needs to take a class in customer etiquette. She sits us at a table, no menu or even ask us about drinks. Had a 4 o'c reservation and 20 min later comes over to tell us we need to order our food quickly and finish quickly cause "we have other customers coming in that need these tables!" At that point we still didn't have menus or drinks (not even water on the table). We told her "how about an order of drinks and menus??" She finally gave us menus n sent over a waiter, Kevin. During our meal, she kept sending over other employees to ask if they can take our plates (while we were still eating). We finally told the help that we would let them know when we are done-no need to keep hovering over us. So the reason I put any stars would be for the waiter. read more

Coquito is a very nice, different kind of restaurant. While the majority of the food on the menu is Puerto Rican, they have American fare as well. It has a nice upscale ambiance without being over the top. My shrimp with rice and beans was good while my husband's burger was exceptional. We will most likely go there again soon. read more

Would not recommend this place at all. Drove 45 minutes and waited patiently and politely for 2 1/2 hours only to be told we had no table. The owner has no customer service skills and I am truly dissapointed after I complained and asked why my table had been given away, she walked away from us. Extremely disappointed. Made reservation for 8:30 on Saturday, waited an hour and the owner was arrogant, rude, and unprofessional. We had a party of 8, spent close to $500.00 for rude management. The wait staff was nice, good, but the owner would not allow her to do her job well without interfering. Food was ok, drinks were good, music was enjoyable. My husband and I visited recently w/2 other couples. We are from the area so this is a place we frequent and so do many of our friends. Recently some friends of ours had a terrible experience w/the owners Annette and Bill. We were not there so we figured we would give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. We have had our run in w/the owner Annette on a few occassions ourselves but figured since the other couples had chosen this restaurant because there was someone in the group who had never eaten here and really wanted to try the food; we would go along w/their choice. We shouldve known better. We arrived a few min's after the other couples but still very early for our 730 reservation. The other couples told us that Annette was extremely rude to them apon arrival complaining that she had tried to call them to confirm their reservation and did not get an answer so she was about the give the table up. ?what was there to confirm, they made the reservation that day w/her and they were there at 7:10 for a 7:30 reservation. The food was terrible. Starting w/the app's they screwed it all up. One of our friends asked for a side of sauce which was carried over by the bus girl w/her thumb in it. We shouldve have known when the regular bartender was our waitress we were going to be in trbl. 2 ppl in our group ordered steak. One medium rare and one medium well. one came raw the other burned. We managed to get through our meal, even after the waitress/bartender spilled Sangria all over the table. It took quite some time to get our food, but no time at all to get our ck. The waitress laid the ck on the table before the plates were even cleared. We quickly settled the ck but had been delivered a pitcher of Sangria (that 20 mins to get). Annette comes over picks up the ck puts in under her arm and says "I am going to have to ask you all to give up the table, you have been sitting here for 2 hrs and we are too busy to have ppl sitting around" I was floored. I will never step foot in this place again. They should be ashamed of themselves. Shame on the owners to treat reqular customers this way. I know they recently tried to sell the place and when that fell through had to reopen. If you dont want to be in the restaurant business then dont be!!! read more

The food is ok but a little too salty. First, the problem with this place is actually the bartenders. They need to take a couple bartending 101 courses. First of all as a bartender you need to garnish all drinks without the customer having to ask you to do so. When customers ask for it do not roll your eyes. Second, learn how to free poor your drinks accurately! Third, I understand the one bartender is the owners son and wants to make money for his mother but please PLEASE stay consistent with the drink prices. Do not over charge for the same drink and then charge the same exact amount for a "well" drink and a "top shelf" drink! There is a big difference with the quality of alcohol used in both. read more

This review is written for the poor service and the extremely rude manager we experienced. Coquito is a place that my girlfriend and I truly enjoyed going to, as the food was usually delicious and the atmosphere and bar staff accommodating and professional. However, last night after reserving a table for 8, we experienced wait staff who continued to forget things, food that we normally love cooked terribly and were ultimately disrespected by the manager at the end of the night. The night started off as we asked for a separate check for our group of four, while we waited for the others to arrive. Some appetizers we ordered did not come out as the waitress forgot to put them in and when the entrees came out, things were undercooked and not at all cooked like we've experienced before. Aside from that, the entertainment was wonderful and we had such a great time dancing. The real problem that absolutely ruined the end of a great night was when there was a confusion with our separate checks. After explaining to our waitress that our separate check only purchased 4 empanadas and the other 5 empanadas belonged to our friends, she willingly changed the check. However it was still wrong, as we were still charged for an extra empanada and were being charged the tax and automatic gratuity that was on the old check. After calling over the waitress and manager who was a tall older man with gray hair, so much time was spent using cell phone calculators trying to show them the error in the math, which was just removing the extra empanada, and adjusting tax and tip change. We wasted 30 MINUTES of our time. Simply put, we were trying to correct a waitresses mistake and not PAY FOR THINGS WE DID NOT ORDER. We were not once apologized to by the rude manager, as he was defensive the entire time. When we exclaimed that we did not feel we should pay 18 % gratuity because we wasted 30 minutes trying to correct a problem HIS STAFF created and essentially killed the entire mood, my girlfriend was told "well if he wasn't so adamant about the wrong check you wouldn't have wasted 30 minutes". How dare you treat your customers like this and expect to stay in business? If you think that overcharging a customer is the customer's fault and something they should not be adamant about, you should NEVER EVER work in the service industry. Three of us come from families who own their own businesses and we would never disrespect customers the way your manager disrespected us. Unfortunately, your manager ruined the entire evening and left us upset, feeling like we were the ones who did something wrong. It's a shame to see such a great establishment suffer a customer loss due to extremely poor staffing. read more

However recently we have discovered that even though their website states that they allow take out after 5pm on specific days they in fact do not. Tonight was the worst experience i had at the Coquito Restaurant , This was my third time in this Establishment the first two times i was impressed with the service and the food and the owner Annette for her Hospitality . But tonight was a different experience that i did not expect it all started when we ordered a Mofongo as an Appetizer and i ordered Pork chops as my main course after one bite i explained to my waitress that i did not like the pork chops they were bland and to me it seemed as if it was never seasoned ,We then ordered a Mofongo to go r .A few moments later the owner Annette approached our table and stated "sorry folks no take out 'on weekends we both were surprised by her statement because we have ordered take out in the past on a Friday night plus we were already sitting down for instance if we were to order a Mofongo to stay they would have to cook it what is the difference we were already in the Restaurant . so then we requested for the Bill and our waitress Crystal explained to me that the owner Annette took the Appetizer off the bill instead of the pork chops i then explained to the waitress that it should have been the pork chops removed from the bill the waitress response was I'm sorry it was Annette's decision if you want you can speak to Annette i then said no need to we're not returning !!!! read more

This place is out of this world. I'm from NYC but as a San Franciscan foodie for the past almost 7 years, I doubted my parents when they wanted to take me to a restaurant in upstate NY. It's hard for me to admit but I was dead wrong. This place incredibly outshined my expectations and shattered the bar I formerly had for Puerto Rican food, which I already enjoyed. I recommend, to start, the Tostones and the Empenadas. As an entree, I have a hard time deciding between the Pernil or the Paella. The rice in the Paella was amazing and the shellfish, chorizo and chicken were all incredibly fresh and so delectable that I couldn't stop eating it long after I was full. To finish, we went with the Espresso Martinis which I didn't think would fit with the feast but again was proven wrong. It was a treat for my taste buds and now that I'm back home, I find myself craving another one or seven of them! Aside from being impressed with the food, the service was impeccable and the lovely two that I assume were the owners were gracious and wonderful! We fell in love with Annette, who we now refer to lovingly as "Titi Annette" and Bill who oversees the kitchen and does a phenomenal job of it. The atmosphere was comfortable and the music was perfect for the mood of the food. I highly recommend this place for a date or a family dinner but come with an empty stomach and indulge! read more

Rude, inexperienced owner delivers Bland Latin Cuisine. From the moment we walked in (party of 4) we were treated with an air of suspension given the fact that we had no reservations. Ironically, I had called early for reservations and was told they only accept reservations for 6 or more. Ok fine. But when we walked in there were like 5 4-Tops empty so what's the problem?! Anyway, the owner quickly guided us toward a table and before my rear hit the seat she stated how small the restaurant is and that "this" table needs to be turned over within 2 hours - she also added where is the "4th " person ? who was outside on an emgerency call. I assured her that the 4th person would be here momentarily Not the latin warm "mi casa es su casa" treatment I was expecting or used to at Latin Restaurants. Really rude!! I'm thinking a couple days at finishing school might help - actually not sure that would be enough. They couldn't even get the empanadas right - very dry and tasteless. The Shrimp ones were especially bad as they use those microscopic shrimp you buy in can. Our servers were actually very nice and accommodating which in the end could not make up for the lackluster food and a stressed out owner scurrying about, more concerned about the "next" seating than her current patrons. read more

Very nice atmosphere and delicious food. Plantains and Yucca fries were great as well as the Mahi. Extensive drink menu. Only two complaints. The prices online are different then in the restaurant. The restaurant being higher of course. The children's menu is also no longer on it and didn't have any vegetarian options for kids anyway. I have the same complaint as a former reviewer that there are only a few vegetarian option and the ones available are not very authentic. Vegetarians eat more then veggie burgers! We therefore ordered rice and beans which we came with large chunks of pork. When we asked about it we were told well it is only a little and it comes from close to the bone. Does that make it vegetarian meat? On the bright side I heard her tell the next table that it does have meat. A good thing to put on the menu as many vegetarians go to this as an option and in Mexican restaurants there is typically no meat so we assume (incorrectly or not) the same here. The other bad part was that we still were charged for it. Bummer. read more

I knew this was a good restaurant as soon I pulled up and the parking lot was full. The owner/hostess was very attentive. She suggested the house sangria with dinner, and she was right. It was fruity and strong and went down smooth. I ordered the octopus salad and tostones as an appetizer. The tostones were cut a little thick and not flattened the way Momma does but the garlic marinade more than made up for it. I ordered the mahi mahi a la creolla with a side of rice & beans. The fish was fresh and the creolla sauce was authentic. Loaded with red, green peppers with onions in a tangy tomato sauce. For dessert I had the tres leches cake. It was different in that it was prepared with a hint of espresso, almost like a tiramisu. Overall, the food was very good with generous portions. The only thing left on my plates was the skin of the mahi mahi and the cherry from the tres leches. I've been to better restaurants that served Puerto Rican food, I've been to better restaurants with live entertainment, and I've been to restaurants with better atmosphere. But I've never been to a better restaurant with a combination of food, live entertainment, and atmosphere. read more

I have been there several times and the first time was great and its been going down ever since for me.last time I went the food was great and was a bit dismayed when they offered if i wanted another soda that was heavily iced that they kept charging me,..Today I went there and was seated and given a brunch menu...even though me and the wife travelled over a hour to get there and eat empanadas and mofongo and patales the only option we had was a brunch menu ,we considered leaving but as Isaid we did travel far and we were hungry..The waitress came by and hurriedly asked us what we wanted and we needed some time cause we werent hungry for brunch..she came back and we ordered a steal and eggs and a strata egg thing with chorizo,,The skirt steak was very tough and the strata was a cheese laden fluffy thing with the remnants of chorizo,,We couldnt finish,,To reallly top things off ,Just prior to getting our meals we see penils and rice and beans flying out to the tables and our waitress seated another table and she.asks them "do you want the brunch or lunch menu"..when we asked her about that she said she says that when she seats people and she didnt seat us ..sorry....wtf paid $28.00 for heartburn and frustration and heartburn read more

I started making arrangements for a birthday party in August and everyone I spoke to on the phone was either very unhelpful or couldn't answer my questions. When I called to confirm the reservation I was passed to 4 different people before I got an answer. They never made any suggestions regarding a dinner plan. I was told to look at menu online and pick 4 entrees. Not a single beverage was included. In fact there wasn't even water on the table. Annette was very nasty and seemed like she could not handle the restaurant business. A few balloons were brought in and she was overly concerned about the balloons getting loose. We supplied our own cake and you would think coffee would at least be served considering I spent over $600 on dinner. It seemed as though we were rushed the whole time we were seated. I was so annoyed that I didn't look at receipt to see that a gratuity was already included so I ended up tipping on top of gratuity. Not even a thank you from the waitress. So, now we are on the dance floor and spending more money at the bar (forget a buy back) when a glass dropped on the dance floor. Annette was in a panic almost pushing us out of the way. She summoned a bus boy to pick up the broken glass then she comes out with towels ( not a mop?) and proceeds to mop up by stepping on towels and moving about the floor. I think she should stick to dancing because she is lousy at managing a restaurant. I can tell you this... I will never spend my money there again. I give one star because the food was OK. If I can rate customer service I would give it a big fat ZERO! NO CLUE !!! read more
