We placed the order over the phone and when we arrived we noticed the name of the place was different and there was no longer any parking in the parking lot as it was totally blocked off by a fence. Luckily we found a parking spot on a side street. We picked up our order, brought it home, proceeded to eat it and realized it was definitely not the same. Sadly, everything was dry, bland, or undercooked. We ate what we could but didn't really enjoy it. Sorry to say that we won't be back.

We were seated & served by a nice young lady, very professional. The place can use dome upgrades, but it does have a nice space outside for seating as well. The food qas beyond decently priced. My husband had empenadas for an app, the dipping sauce was yummy. His dinner was the chicken stew(a little disappointing as I'm puerto rican & he's use to it that way) with rice and beans,he said it could've used more flavor, but AND THAT WAS $10 ONLY! SAY WHAT! I had the Morongo with shrimp, the garlicky broth was so good,I also had the potato ball as an app which only comes with 1 but it was large. 2 soft drinks and all this for a total of $45. Unheard of. Has potential!

Service was ok and the food isn't like I remember it. The food wasn't terrible but it wasn't as flavorful as I recall it being or expected it to be. Not sure what's changed but I'm not likely to visit ever again. Also they don't serve any type of alcohol so don't expect a beer when you visit. They even have a "bar" seating area but it's not a bar at all. I really wish the food was on point like it was years ago but I found it to be bland and lacking in seasoning. Latin people don't skimp on seasoning so the cook must not have a Latin bone in his/her body, what a shame.

The meal started with a fresh, crispy salad, a good start to a delicious meal. My daughter and I had been craving Platanos Maduros (fried sweet plantain) for some time, so we had a plate of them for the table. Yum. I asked for a recommendation and our sweet and lovely waitress, Mary (I hope I spelled it right...I didn't ask how to spell it) suggested a Bandeja including Bistec (fried beef steak), chicharon (fried pork ribs), fried egg and chorizo (sausage) with rice and beans. My husband had a chicken dish and my daughter tried the Lomo Saltado (peppers and onions with beef strips and French fries). Sabroso! Everything that we had was of generous helping ...enough that we were able to get another entire meal each with our leftovers! We 3 people had 4 courses for under $60. Then, for dessert (it was my birthday), they brought a caramelized banana with ice cream and syrup and the whole staff came out and sang for me! The service was perfect, everyone so friendly --nd the atmosphere was pleasing...Simple, clean décor with a charming tin ceiling and exposed brick walls. I highly recommend Compas to anyone who is looking for a bit of Latin American cuisine at reasonable prices. We felt welcome and that we'd had a terrific meal at a bargain. UPDATE: I had the mixed seafood soup on a return visit and it is HEAVENLY! Not too salty, not loaded with flour or potato like so many soups which are too carby for me... The soup here is the perfect blend of whatever they put in there and TONS of luscious seafood. I took the second half home and had a delicious second meal of it. YUM!!! Order this soup! As my dining companion noted--It's worth the trip to Middletown just for this soup!

And even thou it was after lunch hours, people just kept coming in for various dishes. Our food came out and those first bites were simply delicious. Mofongo was done to perfection, seasoned correctly and not dry (like most places); chicharrones were nicely crisp, not over fried with side of plantains which complemented the dish to a tee. We even got a complementary piece of cake from a local customer (like who does that). Amazing. Can't rave more about it but I want more... next time.
