TRUST ME - STAY AWAY!! As other customers here wrote, I too wish I had read all the negative reviews about this business, but I was unaware that Tom, the previous owner of Copperhead sold to new owners who are a *NIGHTMARE TO DEAL WITH!!* I typically never right a bad review, on the contrary, I'm the one who writes the best and most positive reviews, because I believe people and businesses deserve great recognition and great reviews when warranted. However unfortunately this is NOT the case with the new owner(s) who took over Copperhead Plumbing. I spoke with a Dan, and then realized what everyone else was saying, how the new owner(s) completely destroyed the great reputation Tom built before he retired. I had called a Dan to discuss the repair needed for our boiler. We have 3 zones at home, and the upstairs heat zone to the bedrooms was not working, and my husband tried to change the valve, but had trouble rewiring it although he's an electrical engineer, he felt it better to call the plumber because he needed them to rewire it correctly. Note: The two zones downstairs were working great! Two very young techs came at 8:30 am and 3 hours later were still by the boiler trying to as they said "trying to figure it out". We asked them to not touch the valves or wires for the two other zones as they worked perfectly. I was at work and husband home occasionally checking for any updates from these two young men, and eventually became very worried and concerned with no answers on what was going on. I called the office trying to get an answer on why they were still there 3 hours later, "trying to figure it out" for repairing the ONE ZONE in order to get heat to the 2nd floor bedrooms. I spoke to Dan about our concerns and he rudely and abruptly was raising his voice, and told me "your husband broke the boiler" and it will cost you close to $3,000 for repairs and parts. Plus $300 for the service call today. Needless to say I thought to myself "What kind of company and employees have taken over Copperhead? I don't need to be talked down to this way" This is appalling, unprofessional, and unacceptable to be spoken to and falsely accusing a customer this way, just to *cover his young inexperienced or not well trained technicians*, who apparently seem they were the ones who BROKE OUR BOILER while poking around there for 3 full hours, and now expecting us to pay $3,000 to fix the damage that occurred while they were there!! I once again reminded Dan, that we had HEAT DOWNSTAIRS before the techs arrived, and before they left charged us $300, and after they left, later in the evening we discovered *WE HAD NO HEAT, AND OUR FAMILY PRACTICALLY FROZE* from the cold. Dan and techs was aware I had an elderly mom with Alzheimer's and young grandchildren, (one a baby) in our home - unforgivable!! I gave Dan an opportunity to redeem himself and the business, asking him to send us a more experienced technician the next day (Sat.) and he said he was going to charge us an *Emergency Visit*, in addition to the $200 we paid him the previous day! This was his opportunity to make good, and take care of the damage and frustration our family all went through by leaving us with no heat even downstairs where we had heat before the techs came to our home, and then NO HEAT we discovered after they left. The two zones downstairs which were working when those young techs walked in, was no longer working when they walked out. From my understanding, the amazing guys who owned and worked at Copperhead Plumbing were bought out. The quality of service is now atrocious. Water stains on the 1st floor ceiling from a toilet that was removed and replaced (you don't even want to know why they did this). The replaced bathroom ceiling fan was not set right, so there is an ugly gap next to it. For the minimal work they did, they charged me over $1,000, then they tried to charge me another $600 for replacing the flapper and flusher in the toilet (I kid you not - $20 of parts, 5 minutes of work = $600). What a great company this used to be. read more

Have used them for many many years. Tom sold it a few years ago to what seems like an investor / owner. Slow sweat/drip from bottom of toilet tank. Flushes fine... either a float gasket or washer. Maybe a replacement of the supply line and a washer - worst case.... 2 guys show up. In and out of the house in less than 15 minutes. Told my wife it was an easy fix and they'd take care of it... 10 minutes later.... told her they were done and it needed a complete rebuild / replacement of all the internal components. But it took 10 minutes... They ask for a credit card. She pays and they leave. Invoice shows up in email: Trip fee: $89 Time on property: +/- 10 minutes Replace flapper/ valve / supply line/ bolt: $540 +tax Total bill - $670 I don't like leaving bad reviews... Owner said she was told it needed a full replacement. According to her... she was never asked anything. Cameras... time stamp.... not even a half hour labor and maybe - MAYBE - JUST MAYBE $50 in parts. Called office to express my surprise, frustration, and disappointment. Bill reduced by a little because I was a long term customer. "WAS".... Leaving a 2 because the repair did actually work. Moving on..... read more

Never got around to write this review as I forgot until going back and looking at previous finances, but a few years back called to have them snake a kitchen sink clog. Previously used copperhead and they were reasonably priced and great for furnace work. But in this case wound up spending over $900 for the work, and this was pre pandemic. He literally sat there and snaked it with an electric, when that didn't work he used a jet spray one (why not use the jet spray on all your work?!?). The tech's explanation was they have to charge a certain amount per hour of however long it took and not a flat fee based on the job. He did redo the pvc pipe work under the sink (free of charge), but it was from my complaining of the price and whatever shred of decency he had knowingly ripping us off. Never again. Called roto rooter after that episode when my shower clogged, and it was less than $100. Also lost my business when it was time to replace my furnace and AC. Boggles my mind how this company gets so many good reviews. And please copperhead, save me the "we take pride on our work, sorry you did not have a good experience blah blah blah" read more

copperhead was responsive quickly enough for an ac issue i was having. i gave them a check for the service. HOWEVER, my check was not cashed. my funds were transferred out of my account as an ACH without my permission. i needed a copy of the check AS PAID AND CASHED. three phone calls regarding this issue to copperhead were not responded to. i finally received information from my checking account company that this was processed through wells fargo. my checking account company does not have an image of the check, wells fargo does not have an image of the check but they told me there was yet a third party that copperhead gave my check to. third party does not have a copy of the check. they told me there was yet a 4th party but they refused to give me the information for that company. today i filed a complaint against all of them with the state of nJ attorney general. by the way, the issue that i was having with the ac 'might' have been one of two things. i asked my tech if we could replace one at a time to see which it might be. (to replace both was estimated to be 7k). my tech said no, the job was too small to do one at a time. can you imagine???? id suggest passing on this company. read more

Technicians are knowledgeable, respectful, tidy, and fair. They are honest with which repairs are urgent, and what can wait to be done. The office staff is very friendly and pleasant to work with. Had to fill out a Covid-19 questionnaire prior to appoitnent, tech stayed 6ft away when possible, and wore a mask the whole time. Highly recommend this company read more

I literally never leave reviews, but after such a ghastly culmination of events, I feel it's my duty to the community to warn people from hiring copperhead to touch a thing on their property. I wish I'd read the negative reviews before I called them but it was an AC emergency & PSEG who we normally use, was unavailable. we took a gamble without checking the bad reviews and learned our lesson. The few times Copperhead came to my house for this emergency they only worsened the situation. if this sounds hyperbolic, I'll get specific with examples. 1st they have Mike who they claim is one of their most experienced employees. by far one of the rudest people my family and I've had the misfortune of encountering. The second he showed up he was itching to leave, couldn't be bothered to address any of our concerns nor be courteous in front of my family. I asked him simple questions about my AC and he didn't have the respect to acknowledge I asked him a question nor give eye contact after I repeated my question four times until he finally mumbled a curt response. Mike ultimately messed up our AC because he incorrectly rewired it's new capacitor. we provided a universal capacitor which Mike cleared as compatible with the unit as replacement for the old one. We asked if he'd use it, if it'd save money on the bill and he said yes it was compatible to proceed with. only problem was, (this information came to light when an actually competent company, PSE&G, stepped in after this debacle upon availability opening to fix what copperhead caused) it was revealed Mike was negligent in wiring this capacitor. to the point there the fuse blew, worsening our emergency. not only copperhead denied causing this, they insisted all worked fine after he left, even though he only waited literally 30 seconds after wiring it and didn't give the AC ample time to cycle properly to actually check if it was functioning adequately. Literally as soon as he left our driveway the AC broke down. We called and they sent 2 young men the next morning who said we now needed to replace the motor and fan entirely and that this had nothing to do with Mike's work. Yet PSEG showed up next day and fixed the problem within 2 hours! Basically Mike wired the new capacitor incorrectly. 120volts versus the other capacitor don't get wired the same. when he hooked it up, in essence, he fed power to a line that's not designed to get power on that motor. he hooked up the circulator fan modem to that capacitor which has a hot lead on the pull side and the neutral side, hence frying it. the professionals from PSEG expressed how dangerous this is in unprofessional hands that don't know what they're doing. oh and those two young men they had sent after Mike? had no idea what they were doing. they were arrogant, rude to my family and because they insisted copperhead had nothing do with the AC's now BLOWN fuse, they wanted to charge us just for showing up and literally performing no service to remedy the emergency. after expressing our dissatisfaction with them not even attempting to fix the problem, they proceeded to CURSE out my family using PROFANITIES as they left. unfortunately, old school values and customer service aren't instilled in any representative of copperhead. When calling their number, their front desk lady handling calls and bookings has the most off putting, condescending attitude only furthering the discomfort of doing business with copperhead. I've yet to meet one single person apart of their company who's courteous, professional and pleasant to deal with that didn't make someone in my family feel uncomfortable while in our home. I'll never return to this company in the future. there's plenty of other businesses that do reliable, honest, and professional work. let my family's consistently terrible experiences of getting ripped off and disrespected by each employee in our home be a warning so you don't go through what we did. avoid this company at all costs. save your money, the headaches they cause, as well as the potential damage. read more

BE CAREFUL!! Make sure you get multiple opinions. We were unlucky and got "Adrian" as an advisor. He was very obnoxious and would not listen to anything we said. He was trying to cheat us into buying brand new heating system when we just needed some ductwork fixed. I don't trust him and you shouldn't either. We are still waiting for the quote and haven't heard from the company. There are plenty of other heating company's that do great honest work. If you get Adrian, ask for someone else. I see mostly reviews about Copperhead and I thought I should share my experience. My air conditioner condenser fan had to be replaced. The quote I got from their service man was north of 1.5K. I asked the technician if I could go for non-OEM equipment or remanufactured part for which he answered they only use their approved vendors to supply parts. Scared by the four-digit number I looked online and found a replacement motor for less than $100/-. Of course, it is not an OEM replacement but can be used with my equipment (RPM and HP). I took the risk and after watching some YouTube videos replaced the motor myself. Works fine until now. Wanted to share my experience; the actual quote was approximately 1,500+ for which I found a solution for less than $100/-. Two stars for the technician arriving on time. read more

Yesterday afternoon I reached out to Copperhead just to see if they were working with everything going on. They were and asked extremely professional questions in regards to anyone in the household being sick and if I could stay in the other room as they work, great to see they care. I then was promptly scheduled for this afternoon. Fortunately they called me this morning to let me know someone had cancelled and they could move me up to this morning. They came in at 8:45 and were out in less than 45 minutes. I can not say enough how much appreciated the very prompt, professional, and fairly price service of this company. After much frustration with 2 other plumbing companies, Copperhead responded right away and I had a plumber at my house in 24 hours. My hose valve outside froze and failed and began leaking in my basement when turned on. One company came to my house and wanted to charge me $1845 for a new hose valve! A $20 part and said it would take 1-2 hours! I had three total quotes ranging from $500 - $1845!! Copperhead did the job in under an hour for $315 including parts. The Tech, Bobby was fantastic. I'm so pleased to be the first one to yelp a review regarding the service received by Joe at Copperhead Plumbing, as well as, the very nice and helpful receptionist that responded to my call. I've had almost no good experiences with plumbers in the past. First, I had just inherited a house and weeks later the basement floods. This of course happened right around the time that sub zero temperatures caused everybody's pipes to burst and heating to breakdown. I called several plumbers, got answering services and machines, which was very frustrating. FINALLY, frustrated beyond comprehension, I signed up for Angie's list and found Copperhead Plumbing had RAVE reviews, so I called and spoke to a wonderful woman who told me it sounded as if the sump pump needed to be replaced which makes sense as the thing was at least 20 years old. She indicated that they were incredibly busy but managed to find someone who could respond the next day. Joe is wonderful. He took his time, checked the discharge pipes and explained everything clearly. As a simple courtesy he also took a look at our filthy heating filter and wrote down the make and model for us to replace it.. Then he did a wonderful job. I had an emergency - basement had a small flood. Had a problem with sump pump and discharge piping. Copperhead was able to get there the same day on limited notice. They analyzed situation, made the repairs necessary, and installed new pump. Quality was great, price was extremely fair. We contacted Copperhead for a quote to snake and clear out an underground gutter drain pipe that had backed up. They provided a convenient estimate on the phone. After some comparisons with other companies, I found their quote to be very reasonable and it was easy to schedule them to come out to perform the work. Ben came out, found a simple solution to access the drain that worked (while another company charging more than double proposed an undesirable solution), and got the job done even when a nearby bee colony that was discovered made the task very difficult. Had a problem with my gas boiler NOT turning on when heat was needed...... Completely dreaded the service appt thinking it would be a cost that would be astronomical. Please understand that prior to contacting Copperhead I had a not so good experience with another plumbing and heating company so I was bracing for the worst. Anyhow Jim stopped by and did his assessment and discovered some loose connections and also did some other troubleshooting and that was it!! Good to go now. Should be minus -10 for dishonsety in business practice. They offered a $89 promotion. I scheduled an appointment for Winter prep service. The guy came and then proceeded to charge me an addiutional sum for other things he did without my consent or knowledge. Their office staff advised me " it's only a small sum more". I had been an established long time customer. That was of no value to them in any way. The previous month when I asked for a quote to install a replacement Bosch diswasher they quoted me $360. I explained it was the same model only a replacement for a defective on No additional installation: $ 360 firm was reply.I found someone else who charged me $125. Fantastic experience!!! I had a big box place tell me it would cost me close to $2000 to fix my A/C forced air system. It was an old system so I was prepared to buy a new full AC/Furnace unit for my condo. I called Copperhead and the owner came to me after hours to look things over. He quoted me a guestimate of around $750 and explained what they were going to do & what testing they would be doing as it progressed so that if there was something more serious going on, they would stop. Well, not only did they do everything they told me, they also fixed a very minor gas leak from a pipe to my hot water heater. All of that and it came in UNDER $700. The system has been working great for over a month now and I couldn't be happier!!! They were very fair, and very professional, and I would not hesitate to use them again!!! read more

I absolutely hate attempting plumbing projects myself so I've had Copperhead Plumbing to my house several times for different tasks including repairing a leaking toilet, installing a kitchen sink and garbage disposal, installing a shutoff valve for a spigot, and replacing a toilet. They have provided excellent service and their plumbers are professional, knowledgeable, clean and happy to explain what is going on. They can usually get you on the schedule for a non-emergency within 1-2 weeks, sometimes sooner (thankfully I haven't had any emergencies yet). They are typically very punctual and always call if they think they may be early or late. Prices seem to be comparable with other local plumbers and they try and save you a little money if possible (i.e. they recommended that I purchase a new toilet myself to avoid having to pay their markup, they fixed another toilet using a spare piece we already had in the house). The woman who answers the phone at their office is friendly and helpful and can provide good plumbing advice in a pinch. I would definitely recommend their service for anyone looking for a reliable local plumber. read more

Our A/C compressor quit on the first night of a 94-degree heat wave. Left a message with Copperhead 10:30 at night and received a call first thing in the morning. A technician came out and replaced the compressor within two hours at a reasonable price. When I called the owner later to thank him, he said that they anticipated a few extra calls because of the heat and it was no problem. If you want to deal with a company that's owner-operated by someone who really cares about his customers, Copperhead is who to call. read more

Jim was our service tech and he came to check out our heating system as two of the radiators weren't functioning properly. We have a hot water boiler system. Jim looked at the radiator in our spare bedroom, which hadn't worked in the 2+ years since we bought the house, and the one in the kitchen that was only working at about 10% of last year's performance. He turned a few valves, and our heat was back in action. Your (justified) initial reaction might be "couldn't this moron have just done it himself?" but I had TWO other professionals (one plumber, one HVAC) look at the bedroom radiator with no solutions offered. Jim could easily have bamboozled us and charged us hundreds of dollars unnecessarily, but he was honest with us and did only what was necessary. It is really, really impressive to feel like you can trust a plumbing service even though you don't know them personally. Thanks to Jim and to Copperhead. Highly, highly recommended. read more
