New changes are... weird. We've come here so many times over the years and almost always had a great experience. Sometimes the place is busy and the service is slow because of it, but the food is always good, and I get that it's a learning environment for students, so: be patient, folks. But now the management has changed the whole experience. They've cut back the serving staff to only TWO people, closed the downstairs room altogether, and taken out tables so that there are only 2 booths and 2 four-tops, plus the bar. Their FB page now says "reservations only" but they don't even have an online system so you can see what dates are free. You have to call to talk to one of those belabored *two* people who are covering the entire room. I'm guessing they're also the ones answering the phones for take-out, too. How is this "enhancing [my] dining experience" exactly? To be fair, the food is still good and the two ladies working the night we were there are great and gave us great service. But the room feels spookily empty with so few tables. Plus the idea of being guilted into calling for mandatory reservations? Who does that?! Disappointing management decision that does a disservice to all the hardworking people who work here, and to their loyal customers too. Not sure when we'll be back again, now. read more

As I left the parking lot of Copper Turret a few weeks ago with a very happy & full belly I had one thought in my head: What exactly is root beer jam and how can I incorporate it into all future sandwiches? You see, 'rootbeer jam' was featured on my Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese and it was SOOO GOOD. Pile of pork + melty cheese + this magical root beer jam on freshly baked brioche bread. ohmygoodness. With this jam smothered on this sandwich you don't even miss the bbq sauce usually associated with pulled pork. It had just the right amount of sweetness without being too much and messy. For $9.50 you get a very hefty sandwich and home made corn chips. However - if you've got an extra $2.50 you should spring for the sweet potato fries. They are served with this brown sugar bacon & something-else dipping sauce and it is AMAZING. All sweet potato fries everywhere should be served with this dip. Other things to note: + The soft pretzel appetizer is also super yum. + There's a bunch of beer options to try... * + The staff is the friendliest. + The concept and relationship the restaurant has with Morrisville College is kinda awesome. Love supporting local kids being creative in the kitchen and learning the ropes of hospitality. + The place is totally unassuming... and yes, its next door to a gas station. The local is sparkling clean and the service is impeccable. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw and pickle on the side. The meal came with house made corn chips. While I found the presentation odd; the sandwich and fixings were served on a tin square tray; I did find the sandwich to be excellent. I would have given the order five stars however, I found the portion a bit on the stingy side. To rectify the situation I ordered a burger with more home made corn chips. The chips are fantastic. The burger is made from locally grown beef. Once again the food arrived on a square, small cookie sheet. The burger was cooked to perfection with a slight grill flame taste for additional goodness. Portion size once again was small. I must add that my wife ordered the Caesar salad with grilled chicken, I had a taste, of course. The salad was abundant and excellent. The Caesar dressing was creamy and very tasteful. The chef certainly did not skimp on the cheese. There was certainly room for desert. The coffee arrived first. Very tasty. If you enjoy coffee you will ask for a refill. For desert, we ordered a brownie with chocolate ice cream. The brownie was very good but the ice cream, well, it is out of this world! Take note, the restaurant is run with help from interns from SUNY Morristown who are studying Hotel Management. The ice cream - rich and creamy - is made on campus. If you are hungry be prepared to order two entrees. However, if you order just one entree then, by all means, order a dessert. What space is left over will be filled by the abundant portion of the desert. I recommend the eatery for three reasons: The service, the food and helping the students. The Copper Turret is hands down the best of the best. I used to eat here regularly when I was a student at SUNY Morrisville. A few friends and I stopped here over the weekend for a late dinner, I honestly forgot how GREAT the food is, I had to update my review!!! First things first: it's awesome how they use all local ingredients, and the beef they use for the burgers are from cows that are locally grown on the Morrisville campus. The waitstaff is AMAZING. They're all soo friendly and prompt to get you whatever you need, they really aim to please. The ingredients they use on every dish is like a work of art. When I used to come on the regular I remember getting The Knuckle Sandwich with sweet potato fries or a particular special they had going on that day. This time around I ordered the Pig Mac Grilled Cheese sandwich which is mac and cheese, barbecued pork shoulder, bourbon onions and spicy peach jam on grilled brioche... Can you say AMAZING?! It was literally mouth watering. My friend got the BBQ Chicken & Waffle Sandwich, prolly big enough for 2 large men!! MASSIVE!! It's shredded bbq chicken and grilled coleslaw between two savory waffles topped with maple butter... I couldn't even fathom the amount of stuff that was in that sandwich. Unless you attend school at SUNY Morrisville, you've probably only been in this small town while rolling through on Route 20. That said, when hungry and in Morrisville, the Copper Turret is an excellent choice. I've eaten here on numerous occasions and have yet to be disappointed. This college-run restaurant is well laid out - introducing you to their tavern area upon entrance. The tavern is replete with what you would expect: fireplace, long polished bar, booths, and high tops for two. Frequently they have live music on weekend nights. The tavern gives way to a more formal dining area which is nicer for larger groups or those looking for a bit more quiet. The service at the Copper Turret is excellent. Each server I've had has been knowledgable about the food and making good suggestions. The restaurant sources a lot of their raw ingredients from local producers, including the college agriculture program. This is realized once you've tried the food. Food ranges from basic tavern fare (burgers, paninis, etc) to more elaborate entrees. The menu prices follow suit. This full range is what gives the Turret its appeal - the menu and setting allow it to draw in both the casual student crowd while still pleasing diners looking for a more upscale experience. Decided not to go to the only nicer BBQ place on the way back, googled the hell out on the way. Found this place just 10 minutes off route. We gave it a try and didn't regret! Nice restaurant (and brewery), great service, awesome food, and reasonable price. Right next to the college. Neat, tidy, and mostly wood furnishings. Ordered the fish taco as appetizer and the Turret burger. The taco came loaded with a strip of perfectly cooked fish. Topped with its aioli, coleslaw, and cheddar. Surprisingly balanced flavor and each bite had flavor no matter with fish or not. Adding a bit red hot makes it even tastier. For a carnival flower, finishing all food including vegetables probably one of the best proof of the flavor. Also the taco was in very quickly. Waited a bit for the burger - honestly I'm not a fan of fried food that is why I ordered the same food as the flower. I would say, for a regular burger, it was a great job: cooked right to medium as requested, and they seasoned the patty so you don't have to rely on the sauce or ketchup to finish it. My side was the grilled #coleslaw, which was grilled first to bring out the flavor. As you can tell from the photo, there was not over seasoning with Mayo, very refreshing - warning for red cabbage haters: it is still red cabbage that is tougher than its regular green family member. Sweet potato fries are cooked excellently with crispy texture. Oh, the waitress was super nice, bonus with her Barbie voice. Will go back for sure. #morrisvilleny #fishtaco #burger. Stoped here while taking a tour of SUNY Morrisville. This place is amazing the restaurant is clean and quiet. The price is reasonable. The beers are amazing I had a Haflinger and a Draft Horse loved it. Tried the buffalo chicken wing dip amazing never had anything like it, spicy and creamy the chips were different and seasoned with what tasted like bbq so good. Then had a open steaked sandwich the steak was cooked just how I liked and got sweet potato fries, which came with a special sauce the chef said it was a BBQ bacon ranch dip just watered my mouth. Amazing experience; more than 2 years ago I was there and I didn't like this place. But this time, woooooow, I was amazed. they've remodeled the whole restaurant and they've added a good beer selection and very nice dining area. The menu has very interesting foods for different tastes and most of the ingredients come from local farms and Morrisville college farming program thingy which I don't know that much about, but I always appreciate and love to support local businesses and use of all fresh ingredient in my food. They were both cooked to near perfection (mine was a smudge too rare but still super tasty!) my fries were soft and soggy which is my only real complaint. Oh how I still talk you barrel aged old Manhattan like I had you yesterday. People probably think I have part ownership in this place based off how much I talk about that drink, though besides how good it is, the price ($8) is just worlds away from ridiculous cocktail prices in the DC area. Anyways, Ill seek out this establishment in the future for its cocktails but also its beer. The beer creds are already becoming well establishment through the nearby school that has an up and coming brewing program which is already receiving awards in the state and beyond. And I can see why. The flight I ordered had a little bit of everything, and nothing was below average, actually several were above. Its also a nice, though not uncommon in these parts, touch to have other breweries/cideries represented on tap. We only got to dessert as we already had dinner beforehand but the slice of cheesecake was rich and accompanied with berries to make us feel like we were having something healthy. This place is one of those restaurants you find when you're starving, because you're in the middle of a quiet town, with nothing much to do. But to your surprise they end up stunning you in a way that only seems to be possible with electro shock therapy. They're sauces and dressings are made in house, the chicken tenders are like an explosion of flavors, and will leave you feeling like you just saw a unicorn. The staff is friendly enough to make you think you've entered the afterlife, and the atmosphere is extremely simple and nice for a small tavern. Dinner for four - three of us had burgers of various configurations and my son, noticing they had penne pasta, asked for a bowl of plain penne with butter. No problem. Burgers were decent if a little on the small side. Service was attentive but had to ask for "pasta son's" fries twice before they arrived and after entrees were eaten. Received the bill and was charged $18 for "penne & chicken" full entree and $4.00 for the late fries. We were never offered the chicken from this full-price entree. We politely inquired about an adjustment for the plain penne and butter. Waiter got the manager who apologized and said there was nothing he could do. We quietly paid the bill never to return again. Unique in the area. It is the training resto for the culinary school at SUNY Morrisville, and as such the guys in the kitchen are willing to try new stuff. The quality of the food and service are on par with any other resto in the region, but these guys are unafraid to try new stuff and when they hit, it is really excellent innovative food. Finally was able to try this place. Their menu has been making my mouth water. We went late on a Saturday. The waiter was personable and friendly. I really wanted the Brie dish but they were out!! It came with something like apples, maple glazed walnuts, local honeycomb, etc. It sounded sooo good, and I guess it is because they had just sold the last one when I arrived!! I'll have to try it next time because I'll definitely be back. I settled for the crispy chicken tacos and they were amazing. It came with a chipotle ranch sauce and avocado slaw. Fresh with a twist. Three tacos all together and they giant. The bartender also made a pretty good Moscow mule. Ironic though, they're called the copper turret but don't carry copper bar ware for the mules. Just took out of town guests here and had a bad meal, 4 bad meals actually. From the tempura squash blossoms (no flavor whatsoever), to the Chicken Penne (I thought they forgot to put the chicken in it but then I found teeny pieces in the sauce) to the swordfish steak special ( a thin, dried out piece of fish), too the sopping wet Caeser salad. There was not one good thing to say about the food. Even the one cocktail we ordered was poorly made. I should mention that our waiter was friendly and attentive. Been coming here since i began college, overall its a good spot. Nice change from the school food we deal with. It also takes dining points which definatly the best part about it.
