    Banana Matcha and Strawberry matcha

Love that a local matcha place opened up in Granby! As the rise of matcha has taken over, I can't be happier that there are more options to try. I've recently gotten into making my own matcha with ceremonial grade matcha, so it's nice to see that the matcha was being made in a chawan with a whisk instead of a frother! With making my own matcha, I know how expensive good quality tea can be. That being said, we spent $24 on two drinks which won't make this our daily routine. It's a nice treat as they offer unique flavors like caramelized banana, topped with a blue cold foam. So glad matcha is making its way around and I hope more places are adopting the traditional method of matcha making!

I recently learned that if you put in a pre-order and the shop closes early, you can still pick your pre-order up at the candy store ( BouNom Emporium) across the way. First off, it's definitely one of those small, tucked-away spots you could easily miss if you didn't know it was there, but once you walk in, the decor is so cute. Think cozy, shabby chic vibes that make it feel warm and welcoming right away. The standout for me? The dinner roll. Honestly, one of the best I've ever had. It was dense, rich, and satisfying, not your typical light, airy Kaiser roll. It reminded me more of a Jamaican hard dough bread in texture and weight, which I personally loved. Super flavorful and filling. I was also really happy about their buy three, get one free promotion. It made it easy to try a few different things without feeling like I was overdoing it. As for the pastries, I tried the cinnamon roll and carrot cake. I didn't finish either, but the carrot cake definitely gave true homemade vibes. It had coconut mixed in, wasn't overly sweet, and felt more traditional than indulgent. If you like a less sugary, more classic-style carrot cake, you'll probably appreciate it. Overall, this bakery is worth a stop, especially if you're exploring the pastry trail. Not everything wowed me, but there were definitely some highlights that made it a good visit.

A true local gem that continues to raise the bar--not just in Simsbury, but across the surrounding towns. I have experienced all levels of customer service here but that is to be expected with many years of patronage. I prefer to order ahead online and grab my order from the shelf. There were no fewer than 6 people behind the counter and it was not terribly busy. I ordered a toasted bagel with a side of plain cream cheese. It took 12 minutes. But what gets me is how many people who came in after me were getting their food. No, these weren't online orders. Also, you're a bagel place. You slice a bagel, throw it in the toaster. The speed on the conveyor should not be so fast that the bagel gets warm and not toasted. It's not like it got me out of there any faster that's for sure. And after toasting, show me one person who wants their bagel cut again in half so I am left with 4 quarters.
