Love the pizza, the happy hour and the subs. The hot honey pizza is my favorite. Mozzarella are the best I've had in my life.

Hot honey pizza.
David T.

The bottom line: loud, pricey, but not un-tasty pizza. Went on a Friday night and it was unpleasantly loud upstairs. We had a cool view of a thunderstorm over the river and our server Oscar was nice, but it didn't quite make up for the loud group and ok pizza. Also, they did a lame job of tossing uncooked green peppers on a custom slice we ordered.

This was my first time checking out this restaurant. I liked the fact that you could order pizza by the slice, but unfortunately the piece I received came out cold. Indicating that it had been cooked a while ago. I also ordered the eggplant Parmesan appetizer. The dish was really cheesy, however it was way over salted. The restaurant only offered one mocktail option, which is a shocker especially since we are in the middle of dry January. I'll have to go back another day and have a proper meal to see if this one visit was just a fluke.

So many amazing flavors to enjoy

Ordered a turkey club from Cooper Bell yesterday toasted to perfection. The meat was tender. The bacon was crisp everything about the sandwich. It's a big sandwich so next time you're down on old town Alexandria down by the waterfront go to Cooper Mill and get this turkey club.

My buddy David and I stopped into Cooper Mill for some pizza, and this place did not disappoint! The rustic vibe of the brick building gives it a great Old Town feel, and the moment you walk in you're hit with the smell of fresh pizza. I ordered a slice of the daily special and a Meatball Zepp, and both were excellent. The slice had a crisp crust with just the right amount of chew, minimal flop, and that perfect cheese stretch you want in a good pizza. The Meatball Zepp was packed, heavy, and seriously filling--the meatballs were juicy and flavorful, and it all came together beautifully. Overall, this place is a winner. Great atmosphere, delicious pizza, and plenty of reasons to come back. I'll definitely be returning to work my way through the rest of the menu.

I had heard about Cooper Mill at the end of Duke Street in old town. We did not have reservations and were able to get seated for a late lunch. Our waitress didn't seemed thrilled to be at work. We ordered two Zep's, their specialty sandwiches. The first sandwich came out and the second didn't show up. We inquired about the status of the order and were told it would be coming. Time passed and we spoke to a manager and still no sandwich. About 15 minutes or a little longer later the second sandwich arrived with an apology. The manager said she would take the item off of the bill. The Zep was excellent, it was very tasty and filling. I would definitely order it again. I must say had it not been for the underwhelming service, I really liked the atmosphere of the restaurant, as well as the food. I will chalk it up as a bad day for the wait staff and definitely try again.

Came here while on a business trip for happy hour. The deals were very good. We tried the garlic knot sliders and Peperoncino dip. The sliders were very oily and too heavy on the garlic for my taste, but the meatball inside was good. The dip was amazing. I would go back just for the dip. Service was good, but slow because of happy hour. Overall enjoyed our experience.

Spicy margarita!

There's usually a long linen weekends but I think the drinks are worth the the wait. Went here on a double date and was pleasantly surprised at the menu variety and ambience. The staff was working hard to accommodate everyone during an even, but splitting a pizza made it easy for everyone. Highly recommend their speciality pies!

This was a fairly cool old town waterfront pizza spot. On the outside it looks like an old warehouse but on the inside it's a clean cut modernized space with wooden decor, a long bar at the entrance, and several sets of smaller tables throughout the space. There's also a second floor which is used as their event space. It was a bit quiet during lunch time on this day which worked out as my small group had plenty of choices for seating. Service was excellent our waiter was very attentive and our food items came out in an expedited manner. Their menu features apps like cast iron meatballs, garlic knots, and eggplant parm, several different salad options, 6 different sub options, and of course a plethora of red and white sauce pizza options (by the slice or whole pies) with plenty of add-ons regarding toppings and glazes. The wine menu is also pretty expansive with some very nice selections. I ended up ordering the chicken caesar sub ($18) and the vanilla bean brûlée cheesecake ($9). The chicken sub was delicious the flavor of the bread and the Caesar dressing that came with it were the highlights, fresh toppings, my only complaint would have been a bit more chicken added to the sandwich. The cheesecake was exceptional as well despite being a bit heavy on the cream topping but that was probably more for presentation purposes. Overall a positive lunch experience, I'll definitely be returning to try out a few of their pizza options.

Ordered the hot honey pizza and meatballs. Both were delicious. Meatball was very juicy and flavorful. Pizza was delicious too. Good flavors and a good structure to it. Both were really generous portions. The pizza def had some spice to it as well. Overall a good experience.

This was my second visit to Cooper Mill. I mainly went because of the chopped Italian salad. This salad is so yummy. There is something about the salad that makes it so delicious. The full size portion is enough for two people. I also ordered two slices with hot honey. The slices were good, but I did not taste the hot honey. Was a little disappointed considering how much the honey drizzle is for each slice. If you are in the area, I recommend you check Cooper Mill out.

Sfincinone (w/added red onion and sriracha bleu drizzle on the side)
Ha T.

We got the risenbrezel & sfincinone (w/added red onion and sriracha bleu drizzle on the side) So... we realized we should have ordered the slice instead of the whole pie because 1 slice filled us up right after sharing (and still bringing home 1/4 leftover) giant pretzel A tip we would like to share is to ask for a new set of plates as the pretzel did contain quite a bit of salt we dusted off... and ended up on our slice of pizza when we ate it. I am more of a cheese than sauce person, but did feel this pizza needed a bit more sauce to balance out the dough. The sriracha bleu was a nice balance of both and had more of a kick than we thought it would. Glad we had it as a side than drizzle on top because it can be slightly overwhelming in flavor after a while.

I keep coming because I like the food, the drinks, the service, and the vibe. This is my new go-to place.

My first assumption on entering the bar was that "instagrammable" places like this are usually a gimmick - but I was so wrong. The drinks were very boozy, aesthetically pleasing and tasted fantastic. Their food menu also looked so good so we also decided to get a couple of apps to accompany our drinks. We got the Shrimp Dumpling (steamed shrimp and chicken dumplings served with homemade creamy ginger lemon soy sauce) and Curry Puff (chicken, sweet potato, shallot in the rice dough served with sweet chili peanut dipping sauce) and I am so mad at myself for not ordering more food here (we had lunch reservation elsewhere). The presentation was spot on, portions were generous and everything was super flavorful - the curry puffs tasted like Indian Samosas! The woman attending us was very sweet and pleasant. However things went downhill pretty quickly. I ordered one of their specialty cocktails, which is more expensive than most of their meals, which was just ok. The drink was pretty strong which I didn't mind but most of it was just ice and the gummy was a little stale. Overall it looked cool but didn't really justify the price. The service is really where I felt let down. The 2 friends that I came with got their food in a normal timespan but it took 20-30 minutes for me to get my food. When I asked about it (because clearly they forgot) they lied and said their kitchen was backed up and the order is being prepared. The restaurant was half empty at that point so it was a little hard to believe. Also another waiter came out 10 minutes later and said my food just started to get cooked and will be out soon. Both my friends were pretty much done with their meals by the time I got mine and I didn't get anything from the staff aside from an insincere apology and a bad excuse. For the price we paid I expected much better service and for the staff to go above and beyond when they make a mistake, which didn't happen. The food was good when it eventually did come out though so I I'll give it an extra star for that.

We had the chicken karage and pork XLB to start. We were too polite to fight over the four small dumplings but chopsticks certainly clashed in the karage bowl - luckily the portion for that was large enough that even my cantankerous husband declared he could have been happy with that alone. For the main I had the garlic noodles with shrimp, and oh my gosh. Think of the scene from Ratatouille (yes that one) only with buttered noodles. This dish perfectly evokes comfort-food coziness while somehow also displaying complexity and class. Delicious. The cocktails are unique but passable. I had the nimbus cloud, an interesting mix of ingredients that earns the highly coveted designation of "not too sweet." Aforementioned cantankerous husband declared his old fashioned "the worst he has ever received in his life." Though probably his fault for not choosing something from the extensive menu. The new space in Crystal City is a nice vibe with a Paris streaterie/speakeasy feel, but watch your step in the alley as it's fully open to cars and therefore always steps away from chaos. We sat indoors and had a hard time hearing each other over the loud space (who doesn't love shouting WHAT? directly in your dining companions' ears through a mouthful of garlic noodles?) but honestly, once the food arrived we sort of forgot each other existed for a time. I'll be back for sure, don't judge the solo diner in the corner with enough garlic noodles to feed a family of four.

The playlist was impeccable -- fun and lively without being so loud that you couldn't have an actual conversation. We were there during happy hour and it didn't really get busy until after 7, which made it feel relaxed and easy. I also really appreciated the accessibility. Despite the speakeasy vibe, there is an elevator, so the space is wheelchair accessible, which is a huge plus for me. And the vibes were just 100%. I would absolutely come back the next time I'm in the DMV. I've been to Salt a few times and have always been pretty impressed, so I was looking forward to…read moreanother visit. This time around, though, I noticed a few inconsistencies that kept it from being another standout experience. Salt has a bit of a speakeasy-ish vibe. There's a sign outside letting you know you've found the place, but once you enter the building, there are several doors to choose from before you actually make your way into the restaurant. It's relatively small and very dark, with a bar and a few high-top tables, some small booths, and a separate room for the main dining area. Definitely atmospheric, but don't expect to be reading a book in here without a flashlight. There's one gender-neutral bathroom downstairs, but Salt guests can also use the bathrooms upstairs at Open Road, which is a nice option. Happy hour runs from 4-7pm, and they have some fun cocktails to try. I started with a vodka martini, which was delicious--although the olives were noticeably too firm. They weren't rock hard, but biting into one was more like biting into a cucumber. The big draw this visit was the $55 prix-fixe menu, which includes an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. That's a screaming deal. I went with the pork belly to start, the Wagyu burger with truffle fries for my entrée, and the chocolate cheesecake for dessert. The pork belly was absolutely delicious. Three pieces came with perfectly fried little potato bites, and this was easily the highlight of the meal. I've had the Wagyu burger and fries here before and really enjoyed them, but this time both were noticeably greasy. The burger itself was still good, but the excess grease took away from what had previously been one of my favorite things to order here. The chocolate cheesecake was good, but nothing particularly spectacular. Solid dessert, just not one that had me contemplating ordering a second slice. After dessert, we decided to stick around for a few after-dinner drinks. We tried to order the tawny port, only to find out they were out, so we went with the 10-year port instead. Overall, this was still a good visit. The few inconsistencies didn't detract too much from the experience, and our server was attentive throughout the evening. She was also kind enough to let us keep the table for several hours after we first sat down, which was greatly appreciated. Salt is still a place I enjoy and would return to. Hopefully the next visit brings back some of the consistency I've experienced here before--especially with that burger and fries.

I went in expecting a place that specializes in chocolate and deserts. Turns out that's not really accurate. The environment is sensual and fantastical and beautiful, but this is really a bar and coffee shop that also sells boxed chocolates. Their actual menu had one chocolate item, a cake, which they were put of when I came. I learned they were out of the chocolate cake only after I ordered a cab sauv to go with chocolate cake, so I ended up spending an additional $30 on packaged chocolates to go with my wine and that I didn't really care for. Likewise I was not thrilled with the brioche grilled cheese small plate. It said it was a trio of mini grilled cheeses served with a soup shot for $12. So I was expecting tomato soup and three little grilled cheeses wither on mini slider buns or cut like tea sandwiches. Oh no. These were Itty bitty little toasts and the soup shot was...French onion? French onion is made with beef broth and I don't eat meat so my friend tried it and did not like it. The toasts were...miniscule. And a little burned (because small things burn). I would rather just have a real grilled cheese. We also got fries, which were fine. The cocktails however - delightful. I saw cocktails going out to other people. Gorgeous. The garnishes were a delight. My friend got a bees knees garnished with a spray of lavender and he lit it on fire. I didn't know you could just burn lavender like that and it smelled INCREDIBLE. New life hack. The space is really small. It filled up when we were there. It was my friend and me, one woman reading, and then a largeparty that felt they could kind of take the place over and they weren't being loud or rambunctious per se but because they felt the liberty to kind of inhabit the small space and take over the room it got loud and we could hear their whole conversation. Likewise, we only had one server working the whole space so he was doing cocktails, coffee, food, the cash register...he was clearly overwhelmed. Not doing a bad job, he was hustling, but it was just too much for one person and I feel like they need two people there if it's busy. Maybe this large party was atypical for a monday afternoon. I still give it 4 stars because the cocktails are fantastic, the space is beautiful, I love the concept and the kitschiness and IYKYK of it, and I also see its potential as a gorgeous sexy little cocktail bar and coffee place when it is more chill. It would easily get a 5th star from me if they reworked a few of the small plates, added more chocolate to the menu itself, and made sure they were staffed more for rushes. Maybe on weekends they are, dunno.
