Each bedroom has its own bedroom, but some bedrooms are tiny and some very large. (I was given one of the large room seen in the photo.) However, this isn't the kind of place where you'll hang out in your room. There are big, comfy chairs and couches by a warm wood fireplace in the winter and tables and chairs out on the patio and front porch to sit and enjoy the view in clear weather. From the street it looked like a charming New England B&B and there are plenty of those in the area. What sets this particular one apart, in my opinion, are the following: * At the back of this charming home is a beautifully crafted, lush garden with a hammock and benches placed in strategic nooks designed for optimal book-reading or daydreaming. At the top of the small hill is a pergola -- for more daydreaming, or if you are a bride-to-be looking for a romantic venue, this tops the cake. * The added bonus: you get your own entrance to a walking trail (please see picture below) that connects to a network of trails. It's beautiful now in the the summer time. I imagined how much more beautiful it will be in autumn. I must come back. * The breakfasts are to die for!! Imaginative and definitely gourmet. BTW, I had stayed in some expensive hotels before (the Four Seasons, etc.) -- in my opinion, this B&B's breakfast is better. Way, way better. On my first day, the second course was freshly-baked frittata with a side of steamed kale and zucchini -- picked from their garden. The cheese had just the right gooey to it, and the eggs were fluffy. Day 2: French-toasted croissant filled with creamy custard and drizzled with maple-orange syrup. Yum! * The Owner, Lynn is a wonderful person who had lived in Brattleboro for a very long time and knows its ins and outs -- from where to get great cheese to Brattleboro's unique home architectures. Engaging when a guest needed help and wonderfully welcoming. Yet, I always felt I had my privacy. She has mastered how to be a great host. BTW, the rooms are clean and well kept with a touch of history and modern amenities -- for example: I had a double shower head (a rain shower and a handheld). One last thing: In a hotel or an Airbnb, I always felt unsafe -- locked and double locked. In contrast, in the three days that I stayed here, I left my windows open at night to feel the cool evening breezes from the garden, and during the day, I left my door unlocked while I ate breakfast at the dining room. Priceless. I would come back for the breakfast, or the garden and walking trails, or the wonderfully warm, welcoming atmosphere -- better still, get all three. This one is definitely worth going back to again and again whenever I find myself looking for a great place to stay in Vermont. Highly recommended!

The suite was extremely clean and stocked with lovely linens, fresh fruit, coffee, and even fresh autumn leaves for a beautiful decorative flair. They were kind enough to pick us up from the Amtrak station and really attended to our every need. However, here at Four Chimneys Inn, we loved it so much, we asked if we could stay another night, and they said YES ! Our first night was spent in a red and yellow decorated room, which was very spacious and comfortable. The bed and pillows were super comfy ! It was room #11 and on the first floor. Our second night was spent next door in #10, and those colors were creams, blues and muted gray. For some reason, my camera picked up mostly the gray and left very little color to view, which is weird, because there was a lot of blue, which I actually preferred to the red and yellow room. The room was perhaps a bit smaller, but it was still VERY spacious and more than enough room for the 2 of us. Again, the bed and pillows were super comfy. I think I liked this second room more, if nothing else, than because of the colors. Blues, grays and creams just spoke to me more than reds and yellows. I felt more at home, I guess. Both rooms had fireplaces, but in disgusting 90+ degree heat/humidity, no thank you. On the first night of our stay, the inn's restaurant was closed, but when we unexpectedly extended our stay by one night, that also opened the possibility of dining in-house, which thrilled our tired bodies like you wouldn't believe. We didn't feel like doing anymore driving, so we stayed put and ended up having an elegant dinner at Four Chimneys Inn. Breakfast the next morning was included with the price of each night's stay, but we only availed ourselves to breakfast after our second night's stay. (See separate review for the restaurant.) The inn staff was incredibly kind and friendly, not to mention, helpful. If ever we get to return to Bennington, Vermont, there is NO DOUBT that we'd find our way back to staying at the Four Chimneys Inn. Everything about this place is inviting, friendly, comfortable, quaint and charming.

We drove up the steep driveway from our smaller inn down the road. The grounds are picturesque. You can see views of the rolling hills and the Deerfield Valley. It was such a perfect official first day of fall! There is a Tesla/Electric Car Charging Station, which is convenient. After parking, we headed to the inn for the party. Outside they had the BBQ going and drink stations flowing. The patio and inside dining areas had lots of seating for the guests. The food was good, though the peach cobler tasted a bit soapy. Staff was friendly and attentive. Lots of antique details throughout the inn. They even had giant jenga games throughout the great room. Overall, a good time. If you're looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion, and are looking for something elegant, but at the same time casual, The White House Inn is a great place. You can't beat the setting.

I could still hear traffic going by on Rt 30 but at night, it's pretty quiet. The room and bathroom are kind of dated, but clean, quaint and cozy- 1 double and 1 twin bed- and decorated in blue and white patterns w/ a slight Asian influence. I could smell the slight scent of dog at times...this could be one of the animal-friendly rooms. Bathroom is small, w/ a stand-up shower- make sure to keep the door open so it can remain heated when unoccupied or it can get pretty cold! Thick comforters and extra blankets kept me warm. Modern conveniences of this B&B were great- WiFi available in the room and the common room, and there's a small TV w/ DVD player and VCR. Common room is right next to the Stratton Room- very convenient- small and self-serve- dishes, small fridge, microwave, games, and yummy lemon poppyseed muffins and coffee in the morning. Exactly what we needed! (There was also a variety of cereal, teas and juices offered.) My area recommendations- Stratton for skiing and snowboarding, Manchester outlet shopping (Coach, Polo Ralph Lauren, Ann Taylor, J Crew, Banana Republic, BCBG are my faves). Chris gave some great restaurant recommendations- this trip, we tried Mulligans at Stratton and New American Grille on Rt 100- both were great and affordable. Outside, the woodworking around the windows is falling apart. Inside, it's dark and deserted. No one is at the desk in the evening. The rooms literally remind me of old westerns where the iron headboard bed is sadly crowded into the room and a sink is in the corner. Rooms come equipped with old15" (?) box style TVs. VERY depressing. The prices are WAY too high for what is offered, and if you cancel - even hours after booking - they will still charge you. Beware!!!
