We went here with large party of family and friends, since we came to Maui for a wedding. I should note that this is one of the few places in Kihei that can easily accommodate large parties, because it's a big restaurant inside, and has an outside area as well. I called ahead, and they were able to set us up with 2 tables for 16 people at 7 pm on a Saturday night. The fare at Cool Cat is mostly typical American food, with a specialty in burgers. I don't exaggerate when I say these are the best burgers on Maui. Prices range from $14-$19 and all are great! The burgers are HUGE and tasty, They have so much tomato and lettuce on them you won't need a side salad, or any sides (fries are an extra-cost option). The only downside (and this is nitpicking) is that the burger buns can't handle all that food in them, and I ended up finishing off mine with a fork and knife. If Cool Cat is reading this, please consider larger buns! The service was good too. the only hiccup being our bill. One of the servers somehow put two of the other table's diners on our bill and it was confusing to poll 16 people to see who had what, LOL. The Burgers are amazing and same with their onion rings and everything came to $25 which is cheap for a sit down restaurant in Lahaina and the burger was awesome that didn't have an overly greasy taste. Great spot with both indoor and outdoor seating near the banyan tree in Lahaina. They did a great job accommodating my son's wheat and peanut allergy. The restaurant is nut free and has a cool retro, soda shop vibe. Bathrooms are clean and there are some pinball machines by the bathroom if you want to take a shot at pinball glory. Servers are polite and professional. We were checked on a few times and I appreciated that. This place is kid friendly, the patio dining has plastic chairs so spills are easily cleaned up. The food was pretty good. I got my burger on a gluten free bun and it was surprising in texture. The bun gad good flavor and didn't taste like an odd gluten-free composite. The fries were good and dusted with a spicy, savory salt. Menu items are clearly marked with gluten-free options or options to make some dishes gluten free or vegetarian. What a wonderful first stop on our Maui adventure. Recommend by a sweet friend I am soooo thankful we came! First off the gluten free options are plentiful and safe as safe can be dining out. Cool Cat Cafe makes a solid burger. We ordered the Jailhouse Rock, medium rare. It was juicy and stuffed with mushrooms and cheese. It's the kind of combo that I wish I didn't have to share. Instead, I savored every last bite of my half. We also split the Splish Splash hot dog. This, we could have done without. If you visit Cool Cat, my rec would be to go for the burgers. Note, the burgers don't come with fries - they're an additional charge, but at least they were crispy and well done. Cool Cat Cafe is on the 2nd floor and offers open-air seating for a portion of the restaurant. They also had a live band playing when we went around dinnertime. Because of the music, it was difficult to hear the conversation at the table, but the vibes were fun. The area is also touristy. Cool Cat Cafe is a great, casual restaurant on Front Street, right across from the Banyan Tree. They have a large balcony, with a great view of the park. It's kind of a diner vibe, which is different for the area. The service was also great and the wait was shorter than estimated. We both order the Luna Burger with onion rings, which was really good. The burger was surprisingly loaded with avocado, so I was in heaven. The onion rings were also excellent and a must order! My only complaint is with the drinks. The frozen margarita was one of the worst I've ever had...it just didn't have any flavor. The Cool Cat Punch was too sweet, but kind of expected considering the name. If you're looking for basic diner food this place was it. Nothing spectacular and for the price you could go to any of the other better rated restaurants for better quality food. The adult milkshakes were ok, but nothing to write home about. We got the Luna Burger and Chantilly Lace. The burger was your average diner burger, not terrible but not the best in the world. The sandwich was very sloppy/messy and overall underwhelming in flavor and half the sandwich was a big chunk of iceberg lettuce. The sweet potato fries were good and they have very tasty ranch. As far as customer service goes the hostess was not very friendly however the other staff was friendly and attentive. Overall, if you are looking for great tasting food I would search elsewhere for your money. They also had given the two of us a wait time of 45min but it took over an hour for us to be seated, so it was a let down to have the food experience we did after all of that. I am not sure how this place has the reviews they have especially about their burgers being one of the best in Maui, the burger was the worst one we've had on our trip. Went here twice while in Hawai'i and really enjoyed it. The first visit, we were on a time crunch and needed to eat something nearby before we went on our Whale Watching tour. We hopped in for a quick bite not expecting much but left so impressed. I am regretful that I do not remember our server's name but he was beyond incredible. There were 7 of us and he remembered every single order by memory, right down to special requests and sauce. At no point did we wish for anything. We were excited to try this restaurant this morning, as soon as they opened at 10:30 am.. sadly, the only host present at that time was a rude lady. When we asked if we could sit ourselves (since we were the first customers at the time).. she snapped at my husband & I, saying rudely, "oh no you don't"! The tone in her voice turned us off, so we left. We gave our $50 invoice to another, deserving restaurant. So the one star is for poor customer service. Cool Cats is a burger joint located on the second floor. Our surfing instructor recommended this place. We sat by the window facing the famous Banyan Tree and Front Street. We came at dinner time, so the sun was setting. The view was breathtaking and memorable. The boys had burgers - The Duke and Leader of the Pack. They loved it and said it was one of the best burgers they ever had. I don't eat beef, so I ordered fish tacos. It wasn't the best I had. It was covered with way too much cheese (cold), but the salsa and gucamole was good. You can't have a burger without fries or onion rings! Those were very good and we had to order a second round. They have a full bar with drink specials for $5. You can't go wrong with that and goes well with the fried food. If it wasn't our last night in Maui, I know my boys would definitely asked to come back one more time. They have a game room next to the restaurant by the restrooms. There is a air hockey table and old school arcade game like pacman. We hung out there for a little bit to digest our food, while sipping root beer floats. Was really excited to eat for the first time since it re opened in Kihei. Our server was nice and considerate. I forgot to catch her name. Me and my other half were disappointed by the food. I ordered the burger with avocado and thousand island dressing and the burger was over cooked and the bun was soggy. My boyfriend's burger was put on a French bread roll when he asked for a regular hamburger bun. The fries were heavily and overly seasoned with Cajun and too spicy for my toddler. This place is ok. They're trying really hard to have a sort of 50's diner vibe, but the inspiration is limited to naming burgers after celebrities of the era. So, if you're looking for kinda fun hamburgers from a place that isn't as crowded as the more popular venues in Lahaina, this is the place for you. From a vegan point of view, they have a couple of options: Order the Elaine La Lanne, which is a fairly decent totally vegan offering with a locally-sourced veggie patty, or order any of the other burgers with a Beyond patty, only you'll have to trust the cook to hold the cheese, sauces, etc. Service is good, but if you're unlucky (as we were) to be offered a table in the stuffy little side room, after waiting 45 minutes to be seated, you're going to have a less-than-satisfying experience. Yes! The Cool Cat Cafe is classic! We first stopped in here before our dinner cruise to grab a drink and to try to cool ourselves down from walking around in the humidity. They had a $4 mai tai and my husband and I enjoyed it so much, as well as the chill atmosphere, that we made plans to return for a full meal. The restaurant is open air, upstairs, and overlooks the banyan tree and the pioneer inn. It's a great place to watch the tourists walk by. When we arrived for round two, the place was packed and they had live music which was a great touch. We were seated quickly and ordered the $4 drink of the day which was a mango margarita. Yum! Very refreshing. Since they're famous for their burgers we got that--we each got one of their signature burgers--and they were delicious! You have to order fries separately so we shared an order and those were good too. We left extremely full and satisfied. They have lots of merch to purchase as well as a small game room. I got my ms. PAC man on after our meal and it was so fun! When in Maui, we will be back for sure. read more
