I am writing this, hoping that the "once mighty" ownership starts paying more attention to this venue. By the look of things - they look prime to go out of business. The place had three employees today - they look very unmotivated - and the place smelt like a dirty mop bucket. Haven't been to Cook's Torta in many years and was thrilled to find out that the menu still was the same! However, the prices have definitely increased by a lot! Most tortas are $19.83 and it includes a side. Love that they are on Doordash now and they offer online pickup! Got the Carne Asada Torta and the side - Apples and Cream. The torta was slightly burnt and darker than I expected. The carne asada didn't really seem like carne asada quality but more similar to ground beef quality. My favorite was probably the avocado because it was so fresh! The Apples and Cream was nothing special since it was just apples with cream. This place has an entire wall of different tortas. So let's see if they're pretty good eh or ew. I ended up being able to sample some of their sides and desserts and getting their molcajete and California tortas to try. The mac and potato salads were super creamy, savory, flavorful, and soft. The apples in cream were crunchy, not too sweet, and had bits of crunchy pecans and soft raisins inside too. The pineapple orange coconut salad was pretty much just pineapple orange and coconut shreds. The arroz con leche had plenty of warm christmasy spiced flaves but the texture was not for me. The dulce de leche empanada reminded me of a pecan tart with a flakey buttery crust and nutty filling. The corn cake was like a denser cornbread with a little strawberry jam in the middle. But now for the tortas which came on pillowy, chewy, soft, sourdoughy, ciabatta bread and the California one came with some juicy savory thin chicken pieces, lettuce, and avocado while the molcajete one came with some meaty beef, smooth beans, a bit spicy salsa, and cheese. The tortas are massive here so i can justify why it is that price and it comes with a small small side. I got the bombero and the meat by itself would be on the drier side but if you eat it all together with the avocado and bread it balances it out. The torta is not for me since it seems like they use sour dough and im not really a fan of that. But other people might like it. It wasn't unusual for me to get a few sandwiches on a weekly basis way back when. I am very happy that Cook's Tortas is still around. I have tried every sandwich on their board. My favorite has always been the Bombero #6. It is grilled tender steak with a red pepper sauce and avocados. The bread is a sourdough Ciabatta style roll which is made fresh daily. One side comes with the sandwich. This time I chose the Ham and Cheese Macaroni Salad. For dessert, I always get Great Grandmother's Corn Cake. Everything tasted very fresh. There was ample beef in the sandwich. The corn cake was not too sweet and the guava jelly on top enhanced the cake well. A pineapple-orange aqua fresca was a good, refreshing beverage accompaniment. Service was very friendly and exemplary. The food was prepared quickly and brought out to me. Prices are much higher now than before; more than doubled so this would be considered a special treat for me if I am in the area. read more

I have not been to Cooks in a long time and a lot has changed. The menu does not have prices so I did not know that a salad without protein was going to be $19. Everyone who works here is nice but it's 100 degrees outside and the air conditioner is out or not turned on. Also the bathroom is out of order. I've been coming to Cook's Tortas with my family ever since I was a kid and their food always hits the spot! My go to order is the Lengua (beef tongue) Torta! Pillowy soft and toasted bread with thick cuts of lengua, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, and mustard nestled inside. The flavors are phenomenal! It also comes with a side and I always choose the Ham and Cheese Macaroni! I'm not kidding when I say I can eat the Ham and Cheese macaroni every single day and sometimes I order just a large bowl of it! I love that you can also upgrade the size of the sides to a bigger bowl. The sandwiches can be pricey, but honestly so worth it because of how big the portions are. Customer service is always top tier! The staff are always so kind and will answer any questions you have. Huge perk that you can also call in ahead of time to place your order and they offer curbside pick up. If you want to dine in, simply order at the cashier and they'll call you when your food is ready. Lots of seating inside and very clean. Free parking lot available too. I did find myself preferring the asada to the pastor as it was juicier and meatier. I've seen this place on TV a few years back and always told myself I need to give this place a try. Pulled right in, easy parking with a side park lot. The guy at the register was super helpful and friendly. Answered all of our curious questions about which Toratas to get. I like spicy so I ended up getting the Diablo, but with the red salsa on the side. Just with the jalapenos inside was good enough to be hot for me and still be really tasty. I also added lettuce, tomato and avocado to my sandwich, it was delicious. I like the fact that you can add whatever you whatever you want to your Tortas as well. The sides were good. I like the dill herb in the potato salad, it gives it a little different kick. I really also enjoyed their watermelon agua fresca. The meat was very well seasoned and the bread had a crisp outside but soft interior that elevated the sandwich. It wasn't as good as the ones I've had in New Orleans, but it was pretty dang good. I saved half for the wife and she liked it as well. I will have to get her to come to Cook's in person next time. I was told that the Ham & Cheese Macaroni Salad was popular. I wasn't a fan. The noodles were soggy and too wet not to mention there was too much mayonnaise. I wouldn't recommend this side. I did not heed the warning and enthusiastically bit into La Diabla, nearly singeingi off my ear hairs. It Is indeed spicy. Not spicy, but SPICY. I wish I could handle spice better because I feel like La Diabla sounds like tasty party. Of the 3, I liked #40 best because this was a very good bbq pulled sandwich - the bbq wasn't too overpowering and the coleslaw offset the sweet bbq taste. Ooof, the prices are not for the weak. I came with my sister and ordered 3 tortas, sweet potato fries as sides, and two mexican cokes. The total was $70. I think its a bit much for 3 tortas with a side and drinks but I suppose inflation is hitting hard. The order takes about 20mins when we ordered it to go so they must be making it pretty fresh. This place is probably more upscale than other places because it is about $19 per sando. The flavors were all there and the sweet potato fries were decent but this is definitely a treat yourself place. It can be a bit oily though since the oil bled through the bag. I tried Cooks Tortas for the first time today and it was amazing! The Tortas that are a part of the lunch special are the perfect size for a hearty meal without being overly full. I got the cubano and enjoyed the flavor, though I would say that it is not the traditional cubano flavor. I believe there was added hoagie dressing which gave it a good garlicky tang. I ordered online, and while it was not done on time as expected, it was only a few minutes late and the staff were pleasant and knowledgeable about the order status. I will say, I did try to call to be sure they were open as it's New Year's Eve, but no one answered the phone listed on Google. There is a lot of seating inside, particularly for groups of 4 or less. I ordered the 7 inch, which might hae been enough to share but why do that when I'm hungers?! haha . My combo came with a side. I opted for sweet potato fries as my side. The other options were potato salad, pasta salad, and a few other sides that didn't appeal to me. The bites that had the pickled onions and mustard were delicious, just not spread out evenly to get full flavor in every bite. -BBQ Pulled Pork: My husband got the BBQ pulled pork sandwich. A little too sweet and saucy for me but I appreciated the amount of pulled pork they provided. On the counter there are several desserts like cake, cookies, and pastries available for purchase. Along with agua frescas to accompany your meal. This was our second visit to Cook's. There is a multitude of tasty options available on their big menu. I came here craving a proper Mexican torta and left mad I wasted my appetite. Who in their right mind makes a torta on ciabatta bread? A real torta needs a fresh bolillo period. This was like ordering tacos and getting them on pita bread. And the "hot sauce"? Please. It had about as much kick as tap water. I don't know if they were afraid of chilies or thought it was just for decoration, but it was flavorless and sad. If you love authentic Mexican food, do yourself a favor and skip this place. Size didn't change, Taste didn't change, ingredients seem like they didn't change. What was once free hot green sauce now costs 85 cents extra. Tortas now cost 8$ more. $19 for a torta is not worth the cost for me. The business is clearly doing well for it to survive this long and customers are willing to pay the higher prices. One torta can easily feed 2 people if those 2 people also brought their own bag of chips. Ordering system is now through kiosk but if the lines get too long they'll start taking orders at the counter to speed things up. read more

Cons: Tortas were pricey but I get it and the overall establishment smelled like bad plumbing. I went into the restroom and it was a nightmare. It stunk SO bad and the floor was completely wet and everything was dirty, I had to really go so I sucked it up. But I was kind of stunned after today's adventure back to Cooks Tortas. I believe I used to pay $7.99 for a torta here back in the days. It was not cheap back then but I would splurge on a meal here once in awhile because it was a fresh, great tasting, and worth the extra bit of cash I saved up. Today's order was for 2 husky combos and a torta a la carte: Total Damage $66.48... holy mole. Not to mention they forgot one of my sweet potato fries. Or maybe it was included together in one bag and that was that. I did not realize that the husky combos comes in a smaller torta then the a la carte option since the torta sizes were completely different. Also, compare to the old school photo to the current. Not sure where all the protein went? It hurts to say this but I don't think I can recommend this place anymore just based on the current prices and portions of the food.
