Every coffee shop works hard to be unique and have some sort of standout quality, sadly many times it does not work out as intended. I can say that La Terraza cracked the code! The team really put their all into making the coffee shop feel like a unique space dedicated to their people and home while also giving a quality, minimalist presentation throughout the shop. Great space that provides a calming but colorful atmosphere. Now for the main thing: the food and coffee. The coffee was delicious, fresh, and had more options than I've seen at most coffee shops, many of which were Mexican specialty coffee drinks like the cafe de Olla (which was truly perfection in a cup). We ordered a lox bagel, side salad, and a breakfast parfait bowl, all of which were as fresh as could possibly be and prepped to perfection. I really wanted to like this place. It looks great and it has the foundation of being something delicious. And I know that ordering through a third party app doesn't help make the food taste better usually. But it lacked a lot of flavor :( like the ciabatta bread for the cubano was nice but the meat had been overcooked and not seasoned, if there was mustard on it I didn't taste it, and the good bread still needed to be toasted because the whole thing fell apart. The breakfast burrito had good elements that again weren't seasoned and were therefore bland. The specialty coffee maybe didn't travel well but it tasted kinda weird. Maybe going in person would be better, but I likely won't be back. Very friendly service tho even for takeout. read more

Delicious lil spot, looks closed cause of the dark glass but it's open! Found parking right across the street but heads up Thursdays there's a farmer's market so can't park directly in front of La Terraza. I had the brioche sandwich fried egg, bacon and cheese, very deli!! And I loved the unexpected side of fresh salad, greens and cherry tomatoes. And I got a side of freshly grated hash browns, alil to much pepper for my taste and still palatable. And to drink I had a cafe de olla latte with almond milk, it hit the spot with a cheese and berry Danish. My friend had the same sandwich and wished they had a turkey sausage or bacon cause she doesn't eat pork, other than that, I recommend this spot! Had brunch at La Terraza cafe and really loved the food. The ambience was really cozy and the decor had beautiful imagery of native Mexican people. All of the staff at the counter were very helpful and made the service really smooth. I had the buttermilk waffles with berries and maple syrup. It tasted very fresh and delicious and it was just enough to feel full. I also got a side of scrambled eggs and they were nicely cooked and fluffy. They were even nice enough to give me a side of complimentary salsa for the eggs on the side upon my request. My man got the bagel and lox but substituted the bagel for brioche and it tasted very fresh and savory and was flavor bomb to his taste buds. We will definitely be coming back! read more

Tried out Barrio for Valentines Day and it was a bit underwhelming. Throughout the night we had like three different servers it felt they just forgot about us lol. Luckily the lady who checked us in came through and carried the ebtire service team on her back. She offered us free dessert to compensate for the wait on our food orders. Once we finally got our food, it was actually very good. We were able to walk in and order right away, the inside was really clean and spacious with lots of tables. Outdoor seating not available. Photographs and paintings cover the walls inside. There are some items for sale-mugs, coffee, woven mats. The food came out pretty quickly, I had a brioche bacon egg sandwich with chipotle aioli. I like their interior decor particularly the art paintings hanging throughout the cafe. Similarly, the cafe's layout was spacious. Atmosphere was relaxing with good background music. I arrived early Friday morning to grab breakfast. I was perfunctorily greeted by a female server at the counter. She was patient enough to wait while I perused their menu as a first time customer. I ordered a buttermilk waffle with assorted berries and a café au lait. Breakfast was modest in taste and flavor; serving was of average size. Coffee was perfectly brewed. Service was impeccable. It had been a while since my last visit to Barrio, but I was so pleased to find that the consistency of the food remains excellent. This gem of a spot, which I believe is Latino family-owned, continues to serve the Grand Terrace community with pride, passion, and seriously impressive cuisine. We started with the Crispy Prosciutto with Fresh Mozzarella & Arugula along with two specialty cocktails. The salad was incredibly fresh--perfectly balanced and definitely a must-try if you're new to the restaurant. For my main, I went with the special: Guanciale-Texas Raised Wild Boar, finished with a Barbera wine reduction infused with rosemary. It was absolutely delicious--bold, rich, and thoughtfully prepared. A truly standout dish you can't go wrong with. The ambiance of the restaurant is just as memorable. It's beautiful inside, and don't skip a stop in the restroom--the wallpaper and overall aesthetic are a fun surprise and really showcase the attention to detail throughout the space. Nice little Guatemalan cafe, you pay at cashier and they bring the food and drinks to your table. It was pretty pricey around& $70 + tip for 2 drinks, 2meals and French toast. I got a a breakfast bagel that included a salad. My husband got a breakfast burrito that included chips. In my opinion it's a little pricey for the food we're getting. It's more of a light breakfast. It was good, but nothing I would brag about. I was hoping to get some good coffee at least. but it's just like any other mom and pop cafe. The French toast was delicious. If you have kids who are a bit picky, I wouldn't recommend it. It's a different kind of bread which in my opinion it was really tasty it just has a unique taste (: The service was okay the one the only one who really attended us was the cook. He was so helpful& polite. he made my kids smile with positive attitude. It wasn't a busy day, I would say they had five tables that were occupied and the cashier couldn't help us wipe our tables it was dirty and sticky. She asked if she can bring us anything else. Saw this place was open and when we got there the place appears to be permanently closed!

I've been wanting to come here for a while but today I finally pushed myself to try something new since I get a lot of social anxiety but the place made me feel like home. I love that it's a Guatemalan restaurant because I'm from Guatemala and there not a lot of Guatemalan places I know that are this close not only from my school but also from my house. The place is really pretty and the art work and pictures put a smile on my face. The salsa they gave me for my burrito and chips tasted just like my mom's salsa and the burrito was so good. Also the people that work there are really nice I had forgotten my box of leftovers and I called to see if it was there and the lady who was working there did me the favor to keep it safe and when I went back she handed me my box it was so sweet! Also it's student friendly I showed a picture of my schedule and I got my matcha drink for free! Anyways thanks to this cafe and the art work and the service I will be coming back :) read more

This little hole in the wall popped up in places I should try in this area and it didn't disappoint. This place is family owned, the place has cultural photographs, mugs and coffee. The coffee comes directly from Guatemala and is women owned plantations. It's like a little coffee shop you grab some food and do some work or just have a small meet up. The service was pretty good, you pay and then pick a spot to sit. They girls will Come around to ask if everything is okay. We got a Cesar chicken wrap, and a matcha ginger scone I believe it was. It was honestly pretty good! The wrap was pretty big, I had half Togo home. They do close a little early though which is a little bit of a bummer but honestly over all recommend. Idk why it's so cold in there The food was great, but my only complaint was the tables:. We moved three times because the tables were wobbly and was kind of uncomfortable. We ended up just staying at the third table even though it kept moving. I didn't want to move and go looking for a good table. Each time I put my drink down the table would move. I found this place after researching a place to get some Cacio e Pepe. I will never end my hunt to try this dish at different restaurants. I stumbled upon Barrio and found it interesting based on its location. The reviews for this dish were good so I decided to give it a try. I should have looked at what other places the people who reviewed this dish so highly frequented. I did that post my visit and it all makes sense now. If you have ever been to Italy and had this dish, you know this dish is not properly prepared. Props for using pecorino and not Parmesan like other LA restaurants and for getting down the correct ratio of pepper, but the creamy element was missing. See my review for Met Him At A Bar for how this dish should look (the pasta used is irrelevant, I have had it with different noods). This dish was prepared as if the pecorino was just sprinkled over the noodles, which were cooked just right in my opinion. Was it edible? Yes, because I love cheese and carbs. However, it was not what the dish should have been. This dish can likely be perfected with some practice, namely perfecting a creamy sauce. The crispy prosciutto was great - think bacon with mozzarella and tomatoes. I was a little confused because as much as I love bread, I didn't care for the bread in this dish. I think this Keto diet I do during the wks is making me insane in the membrane. The combo was perfect with just the prosciutto, mozzarella, tomatoes and arugula. The desserts aren't made in-house but I figured let's see if the sweets at least redeem this place. I had the chocolate hazelnut cake and it was one of those ok, I've had it and I don't ever need to have it again dishes. As you can see, the inside is cute. A+ for effort in bringing a place like this to City Terrace to gentrify this area. The highlight of my dinner was Debra, the waitress who was very pleasant and attentive. While this does not get a yummy in my tummy rating, I am willing to try their vodka sauce dish, which is a more common dish. Perhaps more mainstream dishes are tastier. Stay tuned for perhaps another review in the future. Parking tip: I went early enough and found parking on Hazard, which is directly across the street with a crosswalk conveniently leading you right to the restaurant. read more

I always wait to rate a restaurant after trying it a few times, specifically when it is a location close to me. I cannot give this place anything less than a 5 star rating because ¡Qué delicioso! I have tried many of the lunch options, the cafés, and the breakfast items with danishes and I am NEVER disappointed. The vegan and gluten free pastries are so good you don't feel like you are missing anything (kids and picky hubby never even suspected). My fav right now is the caprese, tomato, and pesto sandwich with the arugula salad. Perfecto and the salad is a perfect pairing. Parking is across the street at the communal lot. So glad I stumbled upon this place while visiting my friend in East LA. The food was great. We were able to try both their breakfast and lunch. The staff was awesome and friendly location is a little tricky to get to. They do set up little patio table and chairs you can spot them in the side walk.
