The staff herewere beyond hospitable. We called in to say we were going to be late and they went above and beyond to make sure we got a table. They were so responsive and kind, the host Brooke was such a nice person and called us to let us know when a spot at the bar was available even though we were and hour late and the guy behind the bar felt like a friend at the end of the night. Not to mention the food was out of this world delicious. I can't wait to come back. read more

When I randomly find myself in the Napa Valley, there is one, and only one, restaurant I want to eat at: Cook. Every other time I've been to Cook has been for dinner, so I was excited to finally try their lunch menu. We started with the mussels and clams, a dish I have to admit I only eat at Cook. They're amazing. The spicy broth might actually be the best part. It's the kind of broth you want to bring home and eat later that night with a giant baguette. But the star of lunch? A BLT. Sounds simple, but Cook somehow takes a few basic ingredients and makes a sandwich you're going to crave again. And the bacon? It was so thick it practically needed its own plate. I love this place. Cook is the GOAT of Napa Valley restaurants. read more

Stopped in for lunch. Pillowy gnocchi in a gorgonzola cream sauce that was so good we scooped up the remainder with bread, the petrale sole risotto was fantastic. We didn't have room for dessert really, but they did a very good panna cotta with macerated strawberries. The place just knows what it is doing. Warm, knowledgeable, personable waiters. read more

Stopped in for lunch during the week without a reservation and was able to grab a couple seats at the bar. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was great! The spaghetti pasta was cooked perfectly and had a nice chew to it. The clams and shrimp were tasty. The calamari appetizer was a generous portion. We would definitely come back when we are in the area. read more

12302025 I've been meaning to check this restaurant, but they're closed on weekends for lunch, so when we were finally able to go on a weekday, I definitely made sure to book a reservation. A friendly reminder that they're very prompt with reservations. We thankfully didn't botch that, but factor in driving time. Staff: super friendly and accommodating. Ambiance: very, very intimate. Small and quaint. Also, the kitchen is open, so if you by chance sit in front of said kitchen, you will smell like food, like we did. My girls and I would normally opt for cocktails, but since we already did a tasting at Domaine Carneros, we needed to sober up a bit. There were a ton of CHP's so 'adulting'! They both got green tea, and I opted for an Americano. Two of us ordered the fazzoletti bolognese, and the other went for the spaghetti alle vongole. All 3 dishes came piping hot! Our bolognese was delicious. I wish I had asked for a side of bread b/c the sauce was good, and I think my friend wanted that for the vongole. Needless to say, we all inhaled our food (we needed carbs for the next tasting). Since we had time to spare, we opted to get dessert. My two friends ordered the affogato, and I opted for the strawberry panna cotta. I loved my panna cotta. It was creamy but not overwhelming, and the strawberries were the right amount of tart and sweetness. PS: their tap water had an aftertaste... it was weird. I ended up drinking my friend's hot water from her tea. Maybe it's RFK's no fluoride on water, but you can opt to get cocktails or not drink it. I will definitely visit again and prepare the wardrobe so that it doesn't end up smelling like food (my blazer had to be dry-cleaned to get the smell out). For the service and quality of food, it's definitely worth checking out, and the prices were reasonable for the area. read more

Fantastic buzzy restaurant. Started with the tomatoes and burrata. Tomatoes were very fresh and an interesting variety. Also had the calamari. The real star was the slow roasted pork, it was really fantastic. Given I had the tomatoes as a starter, maybe a little too many tomatoes but otherwise great. A memorable meal and would love to go back. read more

Cook St. Helena was a recommendation from a host at a winery we were at earlier on that day and we decided to give it a try. A small restaurant and highly recommend making reservations. We didn't and were able to get a seat at the bar, which we were ok with. There seems to be a lot of locals and from conversation with a gentleman sitting to my left that he was there for dinner and enjoyed coming there when he could. I felt the bartender/host who was behind the bar was a little aggressive but wasn't sure if that was just his personality. (Felt like it was just quick and short responses) The restaurant as I mentioned was small but comfortable and cozy. Our food was cooked to perfection! My pasta hit all the notes and the pasta tasted so fresh. Tasted very authentic and I enjoyed each bite. Overall I had a wonderful time and enjoyed the delicious authentic cuisine. read more

Small intimate Italian leaning restaurant along the Healdsburg Avenue in downtown St. Helena. This gem in SM has a huge local following. The owners respect their employees time and the restaurant is closed on the weekends. Today I enjoyed a lovely lunch beginning with freshly picked heirloom Tom's, burrata and basil dressed with extra virgin olive oil, balsamic and sprinklings of salt. The second course was a delicious pasta with sausage, tomatoes and parm cheese. Just delicious! Highly recommend. read more

I made reservations via OpenTable for a Friday night dinner. My friend and Ii were in town to celebrate her birthday. Upon entering, we received a friendly welcome. The staff was friendly and efficient. Our waiter was helpful with providing us recommendations for our dinner choice. His bubbly demeanor and the lively, energetic atmosphere was what we needed on a Friday night, to begin our weekend. We ordered ahe chopped chicken and slow roasted pork- both were delicious. The entire dinner was delightful, the only thing I was disappointed, was no acknowledgement of us celebrating a birthday, although I stated that on OpenTable read more

Cook is one of my favorite restaurants in Napa Valley--a big statement, I know. Living down valley, it's my go‑to spot for an entrée lunch. The food leans Italian, with excellent pastas, great local wines, and a professional team. Daily specials are always tempting, but I rarely stray from the fazzoletti bolognese topped with house‑made ricotta. The space is intimate and beloved by locals, so reservations are usually essential. Cook's spacious bar is a perfect perch for solo dining. Open Monday through Friday for lunch and dinner. read more

Cook St. Helena - Counter seating...always the best way to dine here - Italian Near Me - Saint Helena, California

Make a reservation in advance and go here! This is a tiny restaurant where space is limited, but it's so good. My friend had walked in before and figured we'd be able to do the same for lunch on a week day, but the only reservation available was for an hour after we wanted to eat. So I called them on the way over and we were on the waitlist, and it would be about 30 minutes until they'd have space. That worked out pretty well because by the time our seats were available, we were starved. We sat at the bar and the service was excellent. We started with calamari and a salad with apples, ricotta salata, and a balsamic dressing. Both were outstanding. For entrees, I ordered the pasta with arrabiata sauce and sausage, and my friends got the bolognese (which she didn't realize had meat in it and tried to order it with shrimp too but the server and I gently dissuaded her) and the risotto of the day that had fish and herbs. I think mine was the weakest of the three but it was good, and the arrabiata sauce became more flavorful as I ate. All were surprisingly large portions and I thought well priced for the quality and service. We were too full for dessert but I'm sure it's amazing, and they have a great coffee and wine list! read more

Cook St. Helena is a small restaurant with decent food, but nothing I would go out of my way for. Service is friendly, although the hostess seemed a bit frazzled when the front waiting area started getting a bit too crowded. Tables are spaced fairly close to one another so you can easily overhead other conversations and if the crowd is a bit rowdier, it can also be a little difficult to hear your dining companion. We ordered the burrata ($18) as several reviews raved about it. I love a good cheese, but the dish didn't taste like anything special. I do wish I had some bread to go along with it, but didn't know if they offered any. We got the cavatelli all'arrabbiata ($18) and the eggplant parm ($22). I wasn't able to eat the pasta due to the homemade sausage so can't say much about it. The eggplant parmesan was presented nicely and much saucier than I anticipated - which was fine! I personally prefer some spice to my dishes, but only had chili flakes available to sprinkle on top. I did like how the breading wasn't too heavy. Parking can be a bit tricky depending on time of day, but at least it's all free! read more

Best calamari appetizer I've ever had! The breading was light and crunchy and the squid was melt-in-your-mouth tender. Truly wonderful! I had the entree special which was fettuccini with chicken, mushroom sauce and fresh peas - I enjoyed every bite. For dessert, we split a panna cotta with blueberry compote - a delight to the taste buds from start to finish. Our server was very attentive and provided great information on the food and wine. This place was definitely a highlight of our trip! read more

Arrived semi early on a weekday without reservations. Was greeted warmly by the hostess and was advised we could sit at a table for an hour or sit at the open bar. We opted to sit at the table and the service was impeccable! We finished eating in less than 45 min. All the pastas are made in house and tasted fresh. Our orders consisted of the bolognese pasta, the chicken fettuccine Alfredo and the Kentucky bourbon ice cream for dessert. My only recommendation is, make reservations, especially on weekends when it's busy or if you're in a large group. read more

We didn't have reservations but figured we'll try our luck. They were able to seat us at the bar. Service was prompt and the food did not disappoint! Highly recommend it. I had the mussels as a meal instead of an appetizer. Asked for extra bread to soak up the sauce. The burrata with roasted garlic was absolutely perfect! We weren't sure what to expect from the restaurant's name. We were walking several blocks looking for something to jump out. We happened upon Cook and decided to try it. We were asked if we had a reservation. We asked if we needed one and was told they could seat us. We were treated like stars. Are server was so helpful in explaining dishes we asked about and offered several specials. From the time we sat down to having water and a wine order within a minute. Everything came out hot and delicious. We tried the mussels with homemade Italian sausage. It was really tasty and the did a wonderful job on the sausage. I decided to keep a seafood experience going so I ordered the clam and shrimp pasta. It was hot off the stove and really tasty. We also tried dessert as well. I had the panna cotta with blueberries. It was the perfect after dinner treat. Smooth and delicious. read more

Cook St. Helena is a quirky, elevated restaurant with eclectically curated decorations and a traditional menu with a twist. I stopped by for lunch, was seated instantly, and appreciated the wine and cocktail selection. The calamari appetizer was tender, hot, and fresh. While I was optimistic from the thoughtful menu items and modern decor, the entrees and salad fell disappointingly short. The chopped salad seemed to consist of the meager remains of a wilted romaine core, slathered in an unbearably salty dressing, while the B.L.T. was a sliver of tomato and a single lettuce leaf sandwiched between a ciabatta bun that danced on the burnt side of charred. Perhaps I selected the wrong menu items, but this restaurant's ambience far outshines the cuisine. For an over $100 lunch, I would expect more. read more

First time eating at Cook, and our table neighbors raved about the mussels, so we had to try them. So glad we did, as they are delicious! Get extra bread with them. I could have made them my meal, but we tried two specials. They were on, nothing super exciting. Thought the fettuccine noodles were a bit thick and heavy. So much looked really great coming out of the kitchen. We look forward to going back next time we're in town. read more

Recipe on How to Lose a good Customer Last Friday night: After many a 14 hour day a welcome treat to drive to Di Rosa Museum and Hess Winery and celebrate the beginning of the weekend for a bite at Cook. Most tables still were empty at 5 pm. I asked if I could have one provided I get back here by 5:30pm, and the hostess said sure...I could have this table. I was ready to drop the usual $100. plus 20% tip for a plate of pasta and a glass of wine, but needed to make a quick call. I stepped out. When I got back, it was still early, and most of the tables were empty. What I do know: Each good meal- hinges on the gracious warmth of a welcoming host, and when this is missing, no matter how thoughtful the food, it's like dinner lacking the essence of salt. For me, Restaurant food hinges on lovely or at least good-enough service, some kindness, a welcoming attitude. Repeatedly the hostess said I would need to be out of there by 6:30, and each time I said I would she repeated it. To be chided and scolded when I did nothing at all wrong? Why? Anticipate that all your patrons are scoundrels, just to be awful and selfish? The hostess told me 6 times that they will be needing the table at 6:30. The thing is the restaurant was practically empty as it was early, 5:30pm. I don't take long when the food comes. Dear Owner: I prefered to skip dinner that night. Even though I was on time and came back for the table exactly at 5:30pm; They decided and insisted suddenly I would have been there at 5:20pm. WHy? I asked for a table for 5:30- for one person. 3 stars for all the good people who are in back cooking and just doing what they do and are good at it, but this hostess gets one star. Ciao Bebe! Dear Persnickity Hostess: Please do better. It was just 5:30 and I am seated and alone. At most it could take me 45-50 minutes- leaving 20 minutes to spare...why? b/c the kitchen did not have many customers, and could get the pasta out in 25 minutes. read more

We were over in St, Helena to see a concert and set a reservation at Cook, a restaurant we had always enjoyed but had not been to in several years. Happy to report Cook is as good as ever. Cook is small a handful of tables, a reservation is a must! The menu at Cook has several apps, pastas and a few entrees. Primarily Italian but there are also other dishes to choose from. We went the full Italian route. Started and shared the calamari which was crispy, tasty without a bit of oil. I had the fazzoletti (flat pasta sheets) Bolognese which was excellent. Wife had the Eggplant Parmigiana which was also a hit. Both were good sized portions. Cook has a nice wine list of New and Old World wine, we chose to bring our own, a tasty Nebbiolo which was great with the food. Service was friendly and laid back which made for a nice relaxing dinner. Hope to get back to Cook soon! PS: The concert featuring Petty Theft, a Tom Petty cover band was excellent! read more
