Came here to get a late snack. Cookout is always on the agenda when we visit VA. They offer typical American inspired food. We purchased our items at the drive thru. The service was good with the young lady very pleasant and helpful as we placed our orders: Hot Dog tray with fries and a taco and a two chicken quesadilla tray with fries and fried cheese bits. The ambiance was a bit rushed as we chose the drive thru, but you could go in and eat. The prices are not bad. *SORRY* We were really hungry and I did forget to take food pics! The food was hot: the hot dog was fresh and tasty on a fresh bun, the taco was just okay; the chicken quesadilla was good as well; we enjoyed the fried cheese bites (we wished there were more!); and the fries were hot and good. We did wash our food down with a sweet tea (that was SO good) and a pink lemonade (also good). All in all, a great place to grab a quick bite, especially late in the evening when other food places have closed. read more

You'd think being in a college town, there'd be several places open until at least midnight. Nope. Anyways drove by this to see a long line. It must be good right? It's ok. Incredibly disappointing! My spouse ordered food to bring home. 1 sandwich was an okay chicken barbecue, though very small. The other was a total disappointment! I'd asked for a honey mustard chicken wrap, had no idea it was fried chicken (no description of the way it was cooked on the menu). It was a tiny piece of chicken breast, one very small piece of a lettuce leaf, and a little bit of sauce that was practically nonexistent. Not much of a dinner...and $9. We were in the mood for some delicious and no-frills food, and Cookout met the moment. I'm not from the South, but many of my friends are, and they have been singing Cookout's praises for years. I finally had a chance to see the hype for myself today. So glad I did. We both got Trays with Double Cheeseburgers and Cajun fries. I had hush puppies as my second side while my travel companion got onion rings, and both of us got chocolate shakes. Zero complaints, every bite of food was delicious. My friends talked about how good Cookout is for half a decade - and still undersold it. It is elite fast food. It is stellar roadside food. It is the BEST possible version of what you'd expect from skimming the menu/taking a peek inside. Perfectly cooked burger, plenty of cheese, fries have great seasoning, and the chocolate shake is the perfect amount of chocolate. And the staff member who helped us was genuinely the best part of the outing. I wish I caught his name, but he was an extremely friendly guy with light hair and a baseball cap. He cracked jokes and put us in a great mood, which plenty of cashiers do, but this guy was above and beyond. He made everything so much better. Even if the food sucked I would go back for the friendly vibes. But the fact that the food hit the spot? I can't recommend Cookout enough. read more

This was my first time trying Cook Out in Virginia, as I had previously tried it in Atlanta. What stood out to me was the variety and amount of food options on the menu. We literally needed about five minutes to figure out what we wanted. We also noticed they had Cheerwine as a soda! Bonus points for a southern restaurant! Admittedly, the food isn't as good as some of your other fast food choices, but the prices and variety bring a solid 3 star review up to 4. Just recently I had a chance to drop in at Cookout in Williamsburg, VA during Memorial Day weekend. Now I haven't had the chance to experience in a min.. The last time I recall I had we was when wifey and I was in Nashville, TN.. Nevertheless, this spot in VA wasn't a bad. However, it was just me this time so I didn't order as many items as I normally post here.. This time I just ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger food tray with cajun fries and hush puppies and of course Cookies-n- Cream Milk Shake.. It didn't make 5 stars but I will definitely give it a strong 4 stars.. Everything was hot and fresh and MilkShake was just how like, with the spoon instead of straw! This is the best food you can get for almost nothing. I have yet to finish a $5 cookout tray- though not for lack of trying. A body can only handle so much fried food, especially if you upgrade the drink to a milkshake. Always upgrade the drink to a milkshake. The true CookOut experience is coming here after a high school sport event, waiting forever in line, waiting forever for food, and then not actually finding a seat. That being said, every teen in town seems to love it and I can't blame them. There's no cooler place to be after the game. Beware terrible teenage drivers in the parking lot and lack of parking space at night in general. Despite the poison kiss of its late-night popularity, this particular location is the greatest CookOut of them all for a reason near and dear to my heart. Of every franchise I've stopped by (spanning the Hampton Roads area and other southern states), this one does the best milkshakes. Started rough but it got better. Not sure if that will always be the case. Upon arrival, there was no one serving people at the walk up counter. We waited about 10 minutes for someone to wait on us. After placing our order, we went to get our drinks and find a table. Despite there being only a few people in the place and it being well after the lunch rush, there were no clean tables in the joint. We found the least objectionable option and claimed it. We went to get our drinks - my daughter had the lemonade which was very watered down. I opted for Coke - the first machine had none, just plain old seltzer. The second machine had a horrible mix very light on the coke flavoring. BLECHHH! Based on our experience so far, we were very surprised that our order was up in a short time. The hot dogs were average dogs and pretty decent. The burger my daughter got was good, but the bacon on it was not crispy and was only in one small area of the burger, with a bit hanging outside the bun. The fries were limp and soggy. Onion rings were the star of the meal, but there were few of them. Considering that the total cost was a little more than what we would have paid at McD's across the street for one meal, the overall score for this Cookout get brought up to a 3 star joint. read more

Thankfully Cookout doesn't have a NYC location, because my children would want to eat there every week/day! We ordered about $40 worth of food, enjoyed almost everything. We had 6 hotdogs, fries, onion rings, Cajun fries, hush puppies, and 2 Cajun chicken sandwiches. On both of our chicken sandwiches, the chicken barely covered half of the bread! Those chicken breasts were small, I'm talking A-cup small. I go to the Williamsburg Cookout to stock my freezer with their wonderful milkshakes. My husband likes their cheeseburgers and the barbecue tray. I've been to this Cook Out a few times now; mostly coming in before or after visiting Busch Gardens. Although I've only been here a few times, I've been to other locations in the past. Of the times I've come in, it hasn't been overly busy, but has been steady. This place isn't your typical burger spot. This place has burgers, hot dogs, chicken, and more. They have combos available as well, where you can choose your main item, get two sides, and a drink for one low price. On the most recent visit here, I had a spicy chicken sandwich combo with fries and onion rings. Portion sizes aren't as large as other places, but the prices also reflect that. After having that, I also had a few of the hot dogs with chili, cheese, and onions. The chicken sandwich, sides, and the hot dogs were very good. Overall, this is a great place to get a quick bite to eat. Pass up the other major fast food burger joints and just come here instead. I don't think you'll be disappointed. The food quality was great. If you're in the area and looking for that quick bite to eat, just come here, whether inside or through the drive through line. read more

As far as fast food goes, this place is the most like real food, though it's not always very "fast". It's very hard to hear/understand the speakers in the drive through, so my orders tend to be incorrect on a fairly regular basis. But the burgers taste like real food, not something that was microwaved. I happen to think that they have the best fries around: they're not too chunky but nice and thick. What a fun restaurant! My friends and I did a girls trip to Williamsburg and decided to have dinner at the Cookout. The vibe of the place was very casual and family friendly. The decor reminded me of a cookout, so they did a great job of bringing out the theme of the restaurant. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich with a corn dog and Cajun fries plus a drink and the whole meal came to $8! Everything tasted pretty good but nothing really stood out as over the top good. Terrible customer service. First time going there so I had a lot of questions because their menu is very confusing in regard to the size of the burgers (small, regular, huge, double up). I felt very rushed. If you don't like explaining what the menu is maybe you should make it more clear by using terms that are self explanatory or providing some kind of description on the menu. My food took more than 25 minutes to come out for a simple burger with fries and onion rings. And that was after I went up and asked the girl to check on it. (Which all she did was go in the back and walk around from station to station in confusion then come back to apologize; not even telling me what the status of my order was.)
