Sometimes you just need that quick, tasty hamburger and Cook Out provides. It is fast, cheap, and both times I've visited, friendly & helpful customer service. It is conveniently located to NCSU but far enough way that it is easy to get to. Also, it is pretty close to the Western Street exit, to boot! The dual-drive through is a good idea given how busy it can be during lunch - just watch out for those odd traffic patterns. I like that burgers are a normal portion size so I can get more of my calories from the fried accompaniments and shake! The onion rings are okay, hush puppies look a bit like mini corn-dogs but without the hot dog part. The corn-dog is simple but satisfying. I did not try the cole slaw due to a container failure (my fault). I did the watermelon shake based on others' reviews and enjoyed its oddity - it seemed like a vanilla shake with chucks of watermelon in the bottom. Second time around did a Health toffee and reminded me of a McFlurry/Blizzard. Make sure to keep that spoon handy because there are some chunks too big to go through the straw, even if you turn red-purple-blue in the face trying to suck it through the straw. Best Cook Out in Raleigh. The staff is always friendly and the wait is never long. I've been to almost all of the locations and they just seem to be a bit mediocre. It's like the Capital Blvd. Cook Out puts a little more love in the sandwiches. I know the milkshakes bring everybody to the yard (there is really a little yard if you are walking to Cook Out) but I cannot partake. I'll take your word for it. I will stick to the 99 cent BLT, bbq sandwich, fries......etc. Whenever I have guests from other states, this is the first stop on the way from the airport. Darn Good! Is Cook Out as good as Shake Shack, 5 Guys and In and Out? No but it has it's own satisfying charm. The menu is bigger, Hush Puppies and Onion Rings are really good fast food. The shakes have been great, there are so many flavors that it can be overwhelming. The service is good at all the Cook Outs I've been to. The first time I went was overwhelming, because there are so many options and combos. The BBQ, Burgers, Shakes, Hush Puppies, and Onion Rings are all good. There are more options that we have not sampled Chicken, Dogs and Cheerwine are my major future must trys. It's budget friendly, so you really can't complain. The meal deals are budget friendly most cost less than a burger from 5 Guys. When we are here again we look forward to trying more of the menu. read more

Just left this location. My order was 50% correct, but this was exclusively because of the horrible speaker quality. I ordered cheese bites. Got cheese fries. Ordered a huge cheerwine with a 2 flavor milkshake on the side. Got no cheerwine and only one flavor in my milkshake. The girl taking my order had to ask me to repeat everything I said at least once and you could hear everyone shouting in the background, which made it even harder to hear what she was saying from my end. And then when the order is wrong because the speaker is put of date and in horrible repair, the minimum wage employee working the window is the the one who gets screamed at. You have money for that fancy new landscaping, how bout you update some of the equipment that's essential to the running of your business. read more

Starting to become a huge fan of this place. The food is above average, served fast, and at a wonderfully cheap price. Get a combo for 4.25 that has a drink, 2 sides and a 1/4lb hamburger. The selection of shakes that they serve is humongous. I've only tried a few but they taste great. read more

Only giving this location 1 star Bc I have to. This specific cookout is by far THE worst I have ever been to. The cashiers never fail to have an attitude and speak over you, not only that but they are very easily confused and flustered with any questions you may have. I don't think there has been one time I've been here where they have gotten my order even remotely correct. You can tell them 17 times that you DO NOT want any cheese on your burger, and they will only give you a burger with cheese and absolutely nothing else. They charge you for sauces and then don't give them to you. I left this location, drove home only to see that my order was , once again, WRONG . After driving 15 minutes back, the manager working asked if I could DRIVE BACK HOME and bring them the tray that they messed up (even though the receipt with date and time was provided) completely unsanitary and any fast food/restaurant I've ever worked at in my life has always had a policy of not bringing food back in that was already handed out. Customer service is completely out of the question as they thrive on trying to give you your order and rushing you out the drive thru even though your order may be completely wrong. You're better off going to McDonald's than completely wasting your money at this location. I never leave nasty reviews like this but I have also never had such bad experiences at other fast food places like I have at this one. read more

I don't see how they could be undercooked when there are literally timers in fast food kitchens. I never regret a late night milkshake from Cook Out; and best part is it's only around $3.50, who can beat that! I have yet to be disappointed with Cook Out (except that I was sad they made their milkshakes smaller a few years ago but hey guess they did the world a favor). My favorite is oreo mint and second fav is the cherry cheesecake (ask for extra graham crackers/wafers). If you are feeling hungry, get a spicy chicken cookout tray with a side of hush puppies and onion rings!! If that's too much, just order a side of cheese fries. Better fries at 5 Guys, but the shakes (the old-school hand blended kind) at Cook Out are worth the sacrifice- the different options for flavors are dazzling, and the variety on the menu is also attractive to me, sometimes you want something greasy and horrible for you, but that doesn't necessarily always mean a burger, now does it? Get those arteries good and clogged with the good folks at Cook Out- the burgers are fantastic and habit forming. On the lighter side, I highly HIGHLY recommend the chicken breast sandwiches- they have that same awesome smoky flavor of the burgers. read more

Just left the restaurant and got home with my food. Service was quick and good, but the hotdogs I got both smell terrible when I try to bite into them. I've tried to call at least three times just to tell them to check their slaw (which I believe is the source of the smell) just to make sure they don't serve a bad batch anymore. I normally go to Cook Out for the milkshakes, but since my brother was in town from Maryland we decided to eat here because he had never eaten Cook Out before. The staff is so rude. We had a four tray order and after each order the cashier goes "Can I get you annnnnnything else " as if he were annoyed and highly impatient. They kept alternating in the middle of my order so I had to repeat myself continuously while dealing with their attitudes. As I approached the window they continued their attitude with the customers after me. Rolling their eyes, talking badly about the customers, using foul language all while my family and I sat there at the window. They hadn't even open the window to accept my payment. I almost drove off, but I stuck around because I was hungry. I hate feeling rushed in the drive thru. I get that you're busy, but I'm the type of customer who makes sure I know what everyone wants before I even get to the speaker just so I don't hold up the line, yet here we are. The Food was good. You can get a whole platter of a hamburger, two huge sides and a drink for 4.98....we're talking corn dogs, chili cheese fries, hush puppies, etc...for a dollar more, you can upgrade it to a famous shake (they have around 30 flavors to select from!). Always my favorite place in the Triangle to get a burger! Take out only - drive through or park and walk up to the window. Service is almost always extremely fast, even when there's a line. My first choice is the cheeseburger "cookout style" (with chili, mustard, onions and slaw). If you've never had a NC-style chili burger or chili dog, you have to try something "Cook Out style" at least once. The shakes are good, but they frequently do not mix up the ingredients well at this location, so ask them to mix it extra if you order a shake that has ingredients that might end up "chunky". The barbecue is not the best in NC, but it's still more than good enough for a barbecue sandwich. In fact it's better than some places that specialize in barbecue, even if it isn't anywhere near Bill's (Wilson) or B's (Greenville). They go light on the slaw on the BBQ sandwich, so if you like a lot of slaw on your sandwich ask for extra slaw (it costs a little more). Fries are pretty good, but not as good as Char-Grill. Onion rings are OK (a little bready for my taste) and you don't get very many in an order. If you have a hankering for a BBQ sandwich or a burger at 1 or 2 in the morning, the CookOut on Capital is the place to go! read more

We ordered from Cook Out on July 25th.... The burgers were so good. Our kids wanted chicken nuggets-they ate them up. We decided to order again on the 26th...I got the same bacon cheeseburger, but my husband decided he wanted to try a BBQ sandwich....he was disappointed. He said the meat tasted like reheated plastic and he didn't realize that the sandwich would have cole slaw on it (or whatever they put on it-we couldn't decide what it was). He should know by now that if you want good BBQ, you do not go to a fast food place for it. The burgers are great though! The fries are good too. I know I've seen ads for 40+ shakes but didn't have time to really look over the full menu to order any of that-the person taking the order seemed to be rushed and it was hard to understand anything she said over the speaker. read more
