The establishment was clean and tables were not dirty but my seat did have a little grease in it that I had to wipe with a napkin. My boyfriend and I came here after a late night of bowling. We were hungry and looking for anything that was opening that didn't require breakfast food, which led us to Cook Out. I drive by this place frequently on my way to/from school and there is always a line but I hadn't ever had the time to stop in before now. Our order was 1 tray with a cheeseburger, nuggets, and fries, hush puppies, cheese fries, and a strawberry milkshake, all of which was about $13. The burger was okay, hot and fresh. The nuggets reminded me of Wendy's nuggets (not a bad thing) and the fries had a really great texture. They were hand cut style, similar to Five Guys, but much firmer in texture. My favorite part was the milkshake. Be forewarned they are THICK. I liked that milkshake so much that I went back a few days ago to get another one. Unfortunately, I asked for a strawberry milkshake but was given a strawberry cheesecake milkshake which was really disappointing because that was 98% cheesecake flavor and 2% strawberry flavor. The only reason I new it had strawberry in it was from the strawberry sauce that was on the inside of my lid. The good: food is fresh, hot, and cheap. Milkshakes are out of this world. My review is only based on the milkshakes, as that is all that my wife and I got. . .and they were excellent! I had the fresh banana milkshake, and she had the chocolate chip cheesecake milkshake. Both were very flavorful, and a great portion size given the cost ($2.99). As others have said, the milkshakes are thick and must be eaten with a spoon. While we really liked the milkshakes, we both still miss the PDQ. They had such good chicken and fries! I truly dislike having to post negative reviews, but there's no getting around the fact that this place did not impress me at all. It's our first visit, and hub and I both opted to start with their traditional burger. It had a nice char, but other than that it was cooked to a lifeless grey and very dry. The fries are frozen but a hand cut style which were pretty good. I got turned onto cookout when I moved to Starkville. I was excited when they opened on in Mobile. Cookout is a unique place that serves a purpose. To fill you up for cheap. You can get a calorie dense meal for $5. You can eat a days worth of calories for $10. The burgers taste like they are off a charcoal grill at the family bbq. You can get them dressed up how you want, or "cookout style" with chili and coleslaw and other fixings. I go for the steak style which is a burger with A1 and grilled onions. The sides are plentiful. You can choose from anything such as cheese curds, to corn dogs. Quesadillas to onion rings. Chicken wraps to chili. One thing that sucks about this place is if you've never been, it can be complicated. Having dealt with it before, I know how to order. If you custom order your burger and complicate your order, there's a chance it will be wrong. read more

I've had cookout on the east coast and love it! No different at this location. The service was fast, food was fresh and the employees were nice! Excitement in lot while waiting on our order some kind of domestic dispute involving an irate woman and her "cheating man". Food was priced nice $16 for all we got. With no dining in and since we were running errands and not going straight home, we had to find a different parking lot to park in to enjoy our lunch in the 90degree heat. (Never be near a domestic dispute scene, people are crazy and this lady WAS, she blocked his car with hers and proceeded to let EVERYONE know her displeasure with his interaction in her car with another woman). Opened box and was surprised, small burger bun, like the ones you buy at store, meat only covered half bun area and bacon on other side. Like a cheese burger with sautéed onions on one side and a bacon sammich on the other side. Four yes count them four onion rings and about 8 cheese bites. Shake was smallish and crazy thick more like ice cream. Burger was excellent flavor but a hell of a mess, car may smell like onions forever. Cheese bites wonderful, onion rings standard fair, milkshake was the star of the meal. Lil pug was happy with hers so if lil pug is happy I am. I will be back but not until dining is open, I am not a fan of in car dining and will not do that again. Fine for a college kid in a $3500 car, but not my bag of tricks. Food: better than most fast food spots, Value: middle of the road fast food, no bargain but not highway robbery Overall: a pleasant meal but if you are not able to head straight home to eat, you may want to eat at any of the other many excellent options in the neighborhood, and there are many. In house dining could easily add another star if simply clean and stocked, mashing the meat into a paddy rather than meatball and a few more onion rings could get this close to a five star. OK this is the honest truth About this place from a college kid. Cook Out is really great for a college town or for after school food for kids. I will say if I want to sober up after a long night or there's nothing else open after a long drive cookout is the spot to go. A pretty nice amount of food for the price. The food is okay. I've visited here 2 times, there is a large menu and for first time visitors it takes a minute to browse through it .
