Fast food, delicious milk shakes. The servers are pretty calm and try to be quick. The ambiance is more for a teenager setting like college students and teenagers that stay late out at night. Easy, cheap eats. I was introduced to Cook Out at the Auburn location. So when planning a day trip to Mobile I knew we wanted a quick but not overly filling lunch before a college tour. I got the Jr Tray for $4.99 with a chicken quesadilla, white cheddar bites, and onion rings. Came out piping hot and fresh. Just the right amount to satisfy. Cheddar bites rival those of other places like the "Z" chicken place. O-rings a good size and nicely crisp. Others in the group got the standard tray with a double burger and either fries and/or o-rings. Kind of wish I had gotten the fries too somehow as they're a nice thicker cut fry than most fast food places. This particular location is a little more polished looking than Auburn, but it doesn't have the open patio seating that Auburn does. Have passed by several times even during the remodeling of the previous eatery. Have seen several good YELP review and have wanted to give them a try. Yesterday was that day. Wifey wanted a chili slaw dog with fries. Perhaps one of the best with just the right amount of chili and the slaw slightly sweet. Large sweet tea which was very good. I ordered the Regular 1/4 lb burger tray with fries, chicken quesadilla an a coke float. I got all of that for $6. The service was fast and the food was tasty. I expected it to be horrible for the price. Cons: the cashiers weren't as Friendly and the chicken quesadilla didn't have much chicken in there. Overall it was good and quick. Well, Cook Out has taken WeMo by storm, and it's pretty tasty! The lines (that were snaking, by the way) at lunch moved quickly and the service was friendly! Hubs and I are first timers and wanted to see what all the fuss is about! We grabbed two burgers, two (very) sweet teas, and shared sides of onion rings, cheese curds, fries, and a vanilla shake -- strictly for observation and taste testing purposes, of course! All were great, very tasty burgers, but I wasn't a fan of the fries (mediocre) and their heavy handedness with the raw onions on the burgers. All else was wonderful! We decided to try out the new COOKOUT that moved in to the old PDQ site- Line was very long but moved fast. We tried the following items: cheeseburger with chili, corn dog, fries, onion rings, hush puppies, Oreo shake and peach cobbler shake! All of this for $15 This is a great fast food place and since they have late hours - perfect for after the Mardi Gras parades. Don't bother getting a straw for your shake - just grab a spoon they are more like a blizzard. Cook Out is probably the best fast food place to get the best/most food for your money. The food is very affordable and good. Where they lack is consistency. I've ordered burgers and gotten them perfect and other times with a slice of tomato an inch thick. Also something to be careful of is their drive thru at peak hours (lunch, dinner, or late night) because I've been stuck in the drive thru for an hour before, and because of the way it's built, you can't just leave once you get in it. Warning, once the church crowd gets out of service the place is going to be packed. My 3 star is based on my food. It was mediocre grilled chicken and seemed to be a previously frozen chicken breast. Awful. Disorganized. Mediocre food (at best). Ordered 3 burgers, two of them were wrong, one of them was missing. The burgers were dry yet goopy. Not much flavor even though I asked for Cajun seasoning, which was probably forgotten as well. The slaw was good. The unidentifiable burnt mass served in a cup of oil (aka their chili) was beyond inedible. It was vile. Disgusting. (See attached photo) Asked for unsweet tea. Nope. They have sweet and... sweet. Hubby and Ma liked their onion rings. The bland hush puppies not so much. Every printed item (cups, food wrappers) is emblazoned with God-this and Psalm-that. I found it off-putting. You might find it reassuring, I'm sure many people do. (See photos) Finally, this is a difficult restaurant to enter/exit of you need assistance walking. The only entrance is in the drive-through lane, so cars are perpetually blocking the sidewalk. If you need to drop off/pick up someone at the entrance, it's not going to happen. They will have some walking to do. I had to drive AGAINST the drive-through traffic to get close enough for Ma and her walker. Not a good design for mobility-restricted persons. In summary, the food ranged from adequate to downright inedible. There were more wrong items in our order than correct ones. (Saw plenty of people returning their drive-though orders.) I think this is the best fast food restaurant in Mobile. They have many entree options for your family from cheese burgers, bbq sandwiches, to chicken tenders, and many different sides, like onion rings, cheese bites, bacon wraps, and street tacos. There is something for everyone. But the best thing I like about this restaurant is that my son, who has a tree nut allergy can have one of their milkshakes without worrying. They wash the machine for him before making his shake. He gets the Oreo and I got the peach milkshake this time. This is my first experience at the cookout and definitely won't be the last if I can find another one around! For right around 8 dollars you can get an entree and two snack sides along with an amazing shake. I had a quarter pound burger with a quesadilla and chicken nuggets along with an Oreo shake. The shake was small but honestly the perfect size to go with the meal. The burger was a little bit lopsided but beats any fast food burger I've had. Cookout is the pinnacle of all American fast food- cheap, greasy, & DELICIOUS. I love their relish mustard hotdogs as their relish is a dill relish. Their white cheddar cheese bites are another favorite of mine. I've had their burgers and quesadillas and they were also good. Customer service is always great and sometimes there is an African American young man working the drive through window who calls me "queen" & etc & his customer service is SUPERIOR. My boyfriend and I came here after a late night of bowling. We were hungry and looking for anything that was opening that didn't require breakfast food, which led us to Cook Out. I drive by this place frequently on my way to/from school and there is always a line but I hadn't ever had the time to stop in before now. Our order was 1 tray with a cheeseburger, nuggets, and fries, hush puppies, cheese fries, and a strawberry milkshake, all of which was about $13. The burger was okay, hot and fresh. The nuggets reminded me of Wendy's nuggets (not a bad thing) and the fries had a really great texture. They were hand cut style, similar to Five Guys, but much firmer in texture. My favorite part was the milkshake. Be forewarned they are THICK. I liked that milkshake so much that I went back a few days ago to get another one. Unfortunately, I asked for a strawberry milkshake but was given a strawberry cheesecake milkshake which was really disappointing because that was 98% cheesecake flavor and 2% strawberry flavor. The only reason I new it had strawberry in it was from the strawberry sauce that was on the inside of my lid. The good: food is fresh, hot, and cheap. Milkshakes are out of this world.
