Tasty, affordable, fast food! We needed a quick bite to eat so we thought we'd try this place out. We got a couple regular burgers and a Banana Pudding Shake for $10 plus tax. But they are making time at the expense of being organized. What a mess --Update: adding a star. As I was sitting in line I was looking at the previous reviews and wondered if the same kinds of things would happen to us. It turns out it did and so I made sure to check our order. We got the order from the car in front of us and they got ours, but the drinks were right. I went back up to the drive-through and they had no clue what happened, what I had, etc. Fortunately the lady in the other car walked up at the same time and we exchanged the food. When I got back to the car I checked again and saw that our "double" onion rings equates to 3. I get double onion rings every time I go to cook out and the amount is usually 7-10. So my wife went back up to the drive-through and spoke to the manager and he made it right. In the end the food was good Cook Out quality. Their tenders and burgers are pretty consistently great as are the fries and onion rings. I know that businesses would probably prefer to resolve the issues that come up instead of receiving a negative review, but it makes it difficult to do when there is a drive-through only situation. I have been to many different cook outs and I've never had this kind of issue. In my mind the solution is for the store management to figure out how to organize their system better and provide training with emphasis on accuracy over speed. God Bless Cookout. This one in Kernersville offers plenty of seating inside and out, sometimes a rarity for Cookouts. The staff was friendly as I ordered my hot dogs and a soda. It seemed to take a while to get my order and eventually I had to go and check on it. By the time I got to the counter my order was waiting there. Where else can you go and get food that taste like you are at a real cookout, but you are not really at one?? COOKOUT. I believe Cookout may be a North Carolina thing, because I've never seen it up north or out west. Anyway, it's great! We lived on Cookout while renovating our kitchen. It's fast, without being fast food. I's open until like 2 am on weekends and it's usually pretty packed at night too. There are four sizes of burger:: small (1/8 lb), regular (1/4 lb), large (1/3), and huge, which consists of 2 regular burgers. You get a choice of onions, pickles, ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard. I get it all, and add cheese for 35 cents, and tomato for 10 cents. The large order of fries is big enough for 2 people, I think. They have premium shakes in 40+ flavors (watermelon shakes are available July-August, and eggnog shakes are available around December). They also have really good corn dogs! I had their chicken fingers once or twice, but neither time did it make an impression on me, 'cause I can't remember what they tasted like. Over 10 years ago I worked for Cookout and Jeremy and really appreciated the high standards that the company held. It's funny how time and money changes things. They have now expanded into multiple states and who knows if Jeremy is even involved anymore. I live on the west coast and my two children live in the triad. 4 words: One bite, you're hooked. How I haven't grown up to become morbidly obese and confined to my bed is way beyond me! Growing up on the poor side, there were 3 eateries that served as treats when a little extra money was available for splurging: Libby Hill, Ham's and COOKOUT. As soon as I got to high school and had a steady flow of my own hard earned money, Cookout became my Go-To spot every time I was hungry, had the munchies or realized it'd been over 12 hours since my last Cookout fix! (lol) There are so many wonderful options to choose from that if I were to try and describe them all, you'd be reading for days lol So I am just going to give you my personal favorites. Whenever I am in town, I don't even make my way to my mother's house without first stopping to order this: 1------- a foot long Cookout Style hot dog (topped with a hefty helping of home made chili, coleslaw, onions, mustard and ketchup) 2-------a large order of Cajun, steak cut fries (so thick you'd swear you were eating meat!) 3-------a creamy, home made cheesecake milkshake (there are literally chunks of cheesecake inside that get stuck in the straw; no worries though, they give you a spoon to eat it with). *O-M-Goodness, my mouth is actually watering from the thought! Just call me one of Pavlov's dogs...* This is a gem that can only be found in NC; I have yet to find it in any other state and believe me when I say it's a bittersweet fact. Bitter because I have to travel all the way to NC just to get my fix (lol). Sweet because we all know how the quality of something homegrown and local can potentially decline once it becomes a franchise. But since it hasn't crossed NC borders, the hospitality remains just as warm and welcoming as its amazing menu. I have never received anything less than a cheery disposition at the window in the thousands of times I have eaten there...it's as if they all literally love their job! It used to be a drive thru only establishment, with 2 lines to ensure expedited service but you can now also sit inside and eat...bonus! And oh, the prices, the prices, the pocket friendly prices! The meal I described above never cost me more than $5 and some change; I always leave with both my belly and my wallet thanking me. If you ever find yourself in the good ole Tarheel State, don't do yourself the injustice of passing by!
