We were passing through town & this was our food stop. My burger was boring & dry with only ketchup & onion but my son had a bunch of stuff on his burger & it looked good. His buns were warm & soft. The thing that stood out to me at this restaurant was the customer service. My receipt tells me that Joshua took my order. He was new to the cashier position & his manage was so sweet, professional & helpful to him. As this was our 1st time in we were trying to figure the menu out. As Joshua was trying to explain the menu the manager (I wish I could remember her name) politely asked if he wanted her to help. He said yes & she showed him the way. Stopped in for something quick and a fresh burger sounded yummy. This is a counter service restaurant a step up from most fast food. First of the staff was super friendly and that just makes all the difference. It was our first time and they suggested a combo. We were almost overwhelmed with the choices and staff was so patient. They talked us into trying 2 different sides each and then we could share and pick our favorites. The service was horrible. They forgot over half of the items from our order even though they had us repeat it at the speaker 3 times. All of the guys working in there seemed absolutely miserable and like they didn't truly care about what they were doing. The food was stale and cold. They claimed they couldn't make my boyfriend a peanut butter chocolate shake because they were out of peanut butter. We got to the window and the guy was scooping spoonfuls of peanut butter out of a jar? Everything about this experience was horrible. I walked in around 9:20pm into lobby, waited about 10 minutes nobody was at the counter. As i was standing there I could hear workers cussing and talking about people coming through drive thru, if i was a church person or very religious, i would be demanding a manager or higher up, with what i heard. I had a kid with me, but he has heard them words also, so no sweat off the back with the language. I understand they are kids, but they need to be aware of their language and how loud they talk. I started to leave, my buddy came up to counter hollared back there, 2 times. A bleached out hair girl came up, was like oh 'disappointed' like and rolling her eyes. I was going to order a shake before I left, but I didn't know if I would get service or not. As we were leaving a guy was at the counter, waiting for food. The same bleached hair girl came out and said here's your food as she slid it across counter. She had her pocketbook and walked out the side door. He said hey what about my 2 shakes, she was at the outside doors and hollared back and said "I don't know, I guess they are working on them" then went out the door. He looked and said well I don't know whether to stand here and wait or forget about them. My buddy was like wait I'll get someone up here. So he hollared back there again. A brown headed with a ponytail and glasses lady came up and was rude, she said can I help you and my buddy said he needs you and we started to walk towards door, and he ask about his milkshakes. She said we are working on them. The lobby was filthy, there was no tea what so ever, no napkins, 1 straw left after we got our 3. This use to be our favorite cookout, after this experience, I don't know if I would stop back at this one. I ordered a HUGE cheerwine, which I do at every cookout I have ever been to, and a tray. They gave me total so I pulled around. They handed me a large cheerwine and said huge was only for tea. They also had different fries, unseasoned crinkle cut. Literally my two things I go to cookout for is the fries and a huge cheerwine. Also I only had 2 chicken nuggets for my side. I normally talk Cookout up to everyone but tonight is a different story. First I was in line for 30 mins waiting to order with 6 or 7 cars in front of me. I ordered a 1/4 lbs cheeseburger, 2 corn dogs and a sprite. The cheeseburger was so over cooked that it was tough to bite into and the sprite tasted odd. Heard lots of things about Cook Out so was in the area of the new one on Hwy 153. It's a small place inside and it was packed. I was surprised at how many people were working there. The menu is extensive and there's a lot to choose from. They have the cookout tray, where you get an entree, 2 sides and a drink option. I chose the 2 hot dogs, onion rings and a quesadilla with a shake. The hot dogs were good. Hard to make a bad dog. The onions rings were very tasty but I only got 4 of them. The quesadilla was weird though. Hardly any cheese but the chicken was strange tasting. I got a shake and I like that you can combine flavors. I had a walnut mocha and it was tasty. New fast food restaurant in Hixson... well new to me... it is located in front of Kmart parking in old Verizon location. Plenty of parking and I was there on Tuesday around 12 noon. It was busy and was in line for about 5 minutes before I could place my order. They have tables and booths with plenty of seating. All food when ordered is take out and put in bags and Styrofoam containers. I ordered the special for $4.99 which includes an entrée, fries and a drink. They had a great selection of food to pretty much meet anyone's fast food appetite. It took about 10 minutes to get my food and I ordered 2 hot dogs, fries and onion rings and a chocolate shake ($1 more). The fries were hot but seemed overcooked and the onion rings were cold. The Hotdogs were OK. The milkshake was very thick and tasted fine. I give it a 3 because of the selection. I am on the fence on the quality but I was impressed with the service, the décor and the selection of food so will have to try it again to see if my first experience was a flute and food is actually better than I received. read more

I've always loved Cook Out. The food is above par, and not to mention, you get plenty of it, especially for the price. However, my favorite thing about coming to this location is that you get to enjoy your meal while listening to God's music. Not many places do this, and when I come here, I always leave feeling great, full, and wanting to spread love. Edit: Not to mention, I came to eat during shift change. The majority of the night shift employees seem to be high school students. High school students are usually the hardest to train and if not trained properly, usually are the least productive. Delivers on its mission, which is an affordable and decent burger. The menu might make it seem like you're getting a giant meal, but even it's largest sandwich ends up eing just a normal, satisfying portion. Their burger competes with the better fast-food varieties and a its a good option (in that context) in both flavor and price. I had the Big Double Burger with Fries and Onion Rings. Service was a little bit slow, although it was a bit busy and they were all working diligently. The soft drink machine was out of ice and never got addressed our entire visit. Nor was anyone cleaning tables. We unfortunately sat right beneath a speaker and the music volume eventually drove us off. I could definitely return if I was after a budget burger. read more

Found this place while I was in a class in Knoxville for my job. I was ecstatic to see that they moved to a location in Chattanooga! The Mrs. and I visited on a weeknight and it was still packed! Even though the line was long, we were served very quickly and before we knew it, our food was ready. You can get a lot of food for a little money so if you are a college student, this is the place for you. They aren't big on presentation, but it's food that you would find at a cookout, and reasonably priced. The second time I went to this restaurant, I tried their milkshakes. The push up milk shake was delicious! The staff are friendly and someone is always cleaning the eating area. It's a fun atmosphere and there's all kinds of people that like this restaurant. The people behind the counter act as though they hate their job and aren't that friendly which unfortunately is typical of today's teenager. I had a burger, fries and a cherry shake. Every thing was good but not so good I'd stand in line for it so if it is a busy night I'd just skip this place until it isn't so busy. Tables were clean. Bathrooms were clean. Parking is ok, just be careful of the lava rocks or what ever they are. You can get a combo for 4.99 that includes a nice entree (sandwich, burger, chicken tenders, or bbq) and 2 sides (onions rings and chicken quesadilla are awesome, and the chili is pretty decent too) plus a drink or a float. You can upgrade the float to a shake for an extra fee and they have tons of shakes to choose from, and even the float is pretty good. This is by far one of the most unique fast food establishments I've tried. Being able to order an entree with a side of entree is something I'm still learning. Having said all of that, much to my surprise their double cheeseburgers, for a fast food place, are quite good. They have a charcoal flavor which makes it seem as though they're homemade. Staff is friendly and very polite. "yes sir, my pleasure" seems like this Cook Out location has taken some lessons from Chick-Fl-A on treating customers with some respect. Today I had the BBQ chopped ppl sandwich. The portion of BBQ was large enough and it had a great smoky BBQ flavor with a slightly sweet slightly spicy BBQ sauce. They make the slaw in house and it is very good. Onion rings for my side, and they are much better than most fast food joints.
