I recently decided to stain the floor in one side of my duplex since it was vacant. I pulled the old carpet, padding and tack strips from the bedrooms, and removed all the ceramic tile and thin-set from the rest of the house. Once i was done i noticed a bunch of over spray. I guess because they knew carpet and tile were going in they didn't use drop cloths. Also there was a bunch of glue residue, both from the carpet padding and some old vinyl tile that must have been there before the ceramic. Anyway, i tried a bunch of different things to clean it up, but nothing really worked. I started calling stores and people advertising on craigslist and realized that most of these people were worse off than me. I heard a lot of "um's" and "maybe this might work" until i called Paul at Contreras Decorative Concrete. He was by far the most knowledgeable person i spoke to and offered to even come by, knowing that i was planning on doing the work myself, to make sure he steered me in the right direction. Once he was there he explained to me that what was left on the floor would always show through and that the best thing for me was to use a self leveling overlay. That was a little out of my comfort zone so i asked him what he would charge. He quoted me a great price in my opinion so i said ok. Now, you know the saying, "you get what you pay for", and this did pop into my head, but Paul comes across as a genuinely honest, hard working man and once i saw his work, all doubts vanished and i was more than satisfied! So much so, that i'm planning on remodeling the other side in a month or so and i'm calling Paul again to do the floors! I would recommend his company to anyone interested in having rustic, stylish stained concrete floors and/or counter tops. Thanks again Paul. read more
