Now you gotta help me out." -Cosmo Kramer, Seinfeld Da Scene: Like many recent reviewers, we were kinda freaked out by the appearance of some little black bugs (kinda like long ants) in a couple of areas INSIDE the house after the 1st rains of the season. In our case it was compounded by the fact that they appeared to be coming in through the ATTIC and dropping down; not coming up through the crawl space under the house. I found maybe a total of 20 of the little guys in 3 spots (kitchen counter under the range vent, guest bathroom under the skylight, and disturbingly; master bedroom under some recessed lighting, right on my pillow - Aaaaaaah!??!). After 20+ years in our home, it's the 1st occurrence so we were pretty concerned. After internet searches, image comparisons we determined subterranean termites and wanted them "taken care of". Da Work: Opened a YELP! Project and jobbed a quote out to several outfits with descriptions and images, wasn't happy with the 1st round of responses, did some more searching and added a few more manually. Contra Costa Termite Control's initial response stood out from the crowd. 1. Jen 1st took the time to explain the background of why this was happening (detailed in many other reviews, so I'll leave that out here) and to reassure us that we in the highest probability did NOT have an infestation; we would likely not see any more activity. She went on to suggest a wait and see approach before scheduling an unnecessary inspection. 2. For piece of mind, I insisted that I'd like them to come out anyway to confirm her suspicions, it had been since we bought the house when we had the last inspection, so I thought why not? 3. Joe came out and checked the crawl space only, explaining the odd source coming from the attic as during the initial "swarm" happening outside, a few of the little guys flew in through the attic vents and "went towards the light". He did find some other non-related/not urgent issues under our bathroom areas which we'll take care of in the spring. Quick & easy... parcheesy. Da Service: Can't sing their praises high enough. From start to finish this outfit is customer-focused, thoughtful and knowledgeable. They shared information freely and never pushed for services or action, only providing options. This can't be said of some of the other contractors who contacted us on the project... MANY were quick to push treatment options right off the bat. Great communications via YELP! then txt/sms, email invoicing and payment options like check, debit/credit card, Zelle or Venmo. Incredible company. It's rare that you call a contractor with a potential termite issue, and instead of selling you their services, they give their honest advice. Long story short, I called Jen at contra costa termite reporting a potential termite issue. I sent her the pictures of the small winged insects entering the home, and she advised me that their way immature termite swarms digging out the dirt from all of the rain. She then offered to read over my prior inspection report (completed by another company!) and instead of charging me $1000+ for an inspection, explained in detail the termite behavior and helped me assess the risk and next steps. I am lowering this review as we had a comprehensive inspection, paid quite a bit of money. It has been over one week and we never received our report. Would have thought this company would have better follow up. I see they are closed on the weekends and now we have to wait until Monday for a response. We were told by the inspector it would take maybe 3-4 days, obviously this timeline is incorrect. Received a response from the company and they apologized for the delay, and not informing us. I called when we found some small insects inside our house after the first fall rain. Spoke to Jen who, to my surprise, said "you have zero worry." She went on to explain the situation, that these were just stage 2 subterranean termite swarmers and it would take a LONG time for them to do any damage, if ever. She said to just to keep an eye on them, vacuum them up and if you can find their entry point, close it off. Most likely they'll go away in a few days but that it's a good idea to inspect our crawl space which CC Termite can do for a small fee. But there was zero pressure to book an appointment. Needless to say I'm going to schedule them to come out though she also said I could do it quite easily. I always look for consistency in Yelp reviews and you'll see the same things over and over here. Joe inspected my home for termites and wet and dry rot. He seemed thorough (I have no point of comparison, so that is the only reason why I said "seemed"), took the time to answer all of my questions, and was very polite. Thankfully, no major or at least costly issues were found. Joe did not try to push unnecessary treatments or work. In fact, he suggested that due to the integrity of the house that I could probably go for a more limited inspection of just my crawlspace for a few years for termites (rather than pay for the more expensive termites + dry/wet rot). Jen was quick to schedule the appointment (and the follow-up appointment described below). I know some companies do free termite inspections, but since with the pandemic I had postponed an inspection for a while, I decided to pay for a company. Joe found two minor issues, a post supporting my porch with some wood rot and some fungus growing under the house. I hired this company to fix those two issues (I got no other estimates, so I cannot compare on cost, but it didn't seem outrageous, and I didn't feel like dealing with another company at this point). Mike came out and dealt with those two issues. He seemed great and very thoughtful about his work. He identified that the wood rot in the post was worse than originally anticipated (from Joe's largely external inspection) but was able to fix the issue (so the post looks like new) without charging more. The estimate also said they would put a coat of primer on the post and leave it to me to paint it, but Mike went ahead and put on the first coat of paint. read more

Last month, we found termite waste (looks like pepper granules) in a bedroom. We contacted a few termite treatment companies and settled on using Contra Costa Termite Control. They offered an effective treatment at an affordable price, compared to other vendors who were quoting hundreds of dollars more. They performed a localized bedroom treatment in a couple hours in order to eradicate the termites. They injected a long-lasting, high-efficacy treatment into the walls and also sprayed underneath the room in our crawl space.
