I love that this location also sells their vanilla & lavender syrups and mocha & caramel sauces for at home coffee. They offer their standard line up of coffee and teas as well as monthly drink specials. They do not have their breakfast sandwiches but do have their pastry case. I ordered the Sweet Honey Bee latte which is one of my absolute favorite flavored lattes. My husband got the London Fog with he also thoroughly enjoyed. I got the vanilla syrup ($19) to enjoy at home. It's a bit thicker but you can see the fresh vanilla bean and has great taste. Kaitlyn and Ashly were both so helpful! There was so many choices I had a hard time. They even let me sample the Chai tea which I did like but was not in the mood for the spice of it. I had the honey bee and it was perfect so sweet and smooth. They have so many housemade syrups for sale even. I cant wait to go back and buy some. They have a ton of local homemade items in there as well like brownies, cookies, oatmeal even!! I always grab a specialty latte to try when I'm taking the metra from the Palatine station and opted for a seasonal pistachio latte recently. The espresso itself is always flavorful and rich but my drink was a bit bland and the pistachio didn't come through. The coffee is good. Yes, as others have noted, it's expensive. The staff is polite and cordial and seems competent. It's just...they can be a little "too cool for school" in here. I've been going here for quite a while, several mornings each week, for my train commute. Sometimes I stop by on a Saturday when I walk to the farmer's market. I recognize at least five different staff members, and not a one of them recognizes me after all this time. I'm always polite, friendly, and concise, and I always tip. I don't make commentary or awkwardly try to chat anyone up. My order is dead simple and extremely consistent. Now one might suggest that they just don't show recognition to anyone, but that would be wrong. I've seen a good number of people greeted by being asked if they want whatever their usual is. It just appears only to be a thing they do if you're the right kind of people in their minds, not merely a frequent or good customer. If you're a cool kid, then they remember you. And if you're not a cool kid, you're an NPC, as the gamers say. Not too long ago (not going to be specific so management doesn't mistakenly think this is about one person or shift), I came in at a less busy time. As I walked up, there was one gentleman who had also just arrived in front of me in line. The woman behind the counter recognized him (clearly as a friend, not merely a regular). She greeted him and they chatted a bit. She saw me standing behind him, the only other customer at the time, and the one with a dead simple, consistent order she'd made many times. She kept chatting with him until a woman joined him. She then let out a delighted utterance, throwing her arms up and coming around from the counter to give her friend a hug. They chatted some more, the couple of friend/customers then settled in to decide what they wanted to order. It was not a short discussion. I stood smiling in a friendly manner while looking at the staff member pretty much the entire time this all played out (only glancing away a couple times to see new developments). I eventually turned and walked away. Not in a huff, but clearly not willing to wait indefinitely. No words were said. I get that a decent manager and reasonable customers shouldn't have a problem with a staff member greeting an old friend. And I don't. But it would have been so easy to say "Oh, hi. The usual?" while continuing to chat. Or to just acknowledge my existence, after which I would have assured her to go ahead and catch up. And I'm pretty sure that's exactly how one of the cool kids would have been treated. The whole experience reminded me that at Conscious Cup, I always feel like I am treated *cordially*, but the experience is like that in an indie record store in the 1990s: I feel like I'm allowed to buy things there, but I will never *belong* there. So I'll probably just start saving some cash and going through the Dunkin drive through instead. read more

This is my favorite spot to get coffee in the NW suburbs of Chicago. Today I tried their special: a banana bread latte. And I was not disappointed. We were all pleasantly surprised! Favorite thing we tried was the spinach and bacon scone. This was so good. Our kids loved it. The scone was really buttery and savory. Ham and cheese croissant was a solid second savory choice. My husband also ordered us a cranberry orange scone because he thought it sounded festive. Unfortunately, this one wasn't a hit. If you like tart and citrus and holiday in your mouth, then maybe this one is actually for you--it just wasn't for me. But that's not to say it isn't good. Came here for the first time recently because I tried a location in Milwaukee and LOVED the taste of the coffee, so when I found out there were multiple locations near my house, I was stoked. When my husband and I were parking, we didn't realize at first that it was inside the Palatine Train Station, and we drove around a couple of times confused because we couldn't find it. Once we parked and started walking, that's when we saw the cafe's sign. Inside, the cafe has a beautiful natural aesthetic with light-colored walls and bright lights. Then, when you turn left from the ordering counter, there are some wooden tables, wooden benches, stools, and plants with tons of open space because of the train station. There is also a pretty big patio outside the front door with a fountain, tables, and chairs, so we ended up sitting there until it began raining. We came on a Sunday, and it wasn't too busy inside, but once we ordered, many more people walked in. There were 2 baristas working at the time, and it took an insanely long time for them to make our two drinks. I ordered an iced Sweet Honey Bee latte which has local honey and lavender syrup inside of it and my husband ordered a Strawberry Fields smoothie (strawberry and banana). For these 2 drinks, it literally took us 15 minutes to get our drinks. We both greatly enjoyed our drinks once we received them, though. The coffee they use is great quality and this drink in particular is smooth and delicious. My husband said his drink was natural and had actual fruit inside, which was a plus (I couldn't try his because I'm allergic to strawberries). This cafe has many different drink and food choices. It is a bit more expensive than some other coffee places for the size of the drinks, but nowadays, coffee anywhere has gotten overpriced, so I'm not even surprised. My drink was about $7 and both of our drinks together were a little more than $18 including a tip. We both ordered 20 oz drinks from what I can remember, and they have 16oz, 20oz, and 24oz options. Hottest cup of coffee I ever had. I've been to this Conscious Cup location in Palatine many times, usually just to grab a quick coffee and if I'm lucky a pastry or sandwich. Which they don't have. It's a small spot, and honestly, I've never expected much from it. I do wish they had a better selection of food most of the time, it's limited. Occasionally, they'll still have some donuts in the afternoon, which are at least cheap and (I believe) locally sourced. But my most recent visit really left a bad impression. I was served one of the hottest cups of coffee I've ever had, and the lid didn't fit the cup properly which seems to be a recurring issue here. As a result, I ended up burning my mouth, my hand, and part of my leg when it spilled while I tried to take a sip. Definitely not what you want from a quick coffee run. If you just need something fast and aren't too picky, it might do the trick. But don't expect the kind of experience you'd get at other coffee shops in the area. read more

The Golden Dreams is a non-coffee drink using milk, turmeric, and other spices. It tasted great if you're used to strong flavors, and felt healthy. They did a superb job with the foamed milk. My wife enjoyed her latte. I only had one sip, but appreciated that the lavender wasn't overpowering like it is at some other places. I don't want to drink air freshener. Located inside the Palatine Metra station, this locally owned coffee shop is a great addition to downtown! They have tons of signature drinks, pastries, gluten-free muffins and carry Spunky Dunkers donuts - another local favorite. I've tried the Vanilla Ella, Spiced Chia Latte and Caramel Vanilla Latte - all are very flavorful. The cafe is very small with no seating, though being located inside the train station, there is plenty of indoor seating just outside the cafe. The one downside is they don't have breakfast sandwiches like some of their other locations in Crystal Lake or Cary. I'm not sure if there are other menu differences, but that's what stood out to me. I went here on a slow afternoon. It was a cute little set up. The staff were very nice. I requested an espresso con panna. The barista didn't know this drink, so I explained it was an espresso with whip. I appreciate they were willing to make it. The barista didn't seem to know how to use the whip cream so it took a long time for my drink to be ready. It was half espresso, part whip cream water?!?!?, and part whip cream. It was ice cold when I took a sip and I ended up throwing it out. It was pretty badly made for a relatively common drink. read more
