I've been going to this place for decades. Can't believe I haven't done a review. This is iconic Oklahoma comfort food. If you like hot dogs, you're in heaven in this onion filled enclave! They use Oklahoma Schwab's wieners and chili. It is Cincinnati style and as good as it gets from a flavor standpoint. I prefer number two which is chili cheese mustard and onions. The chili spaghetti is also amazing. Everything is cheap, but you have to pay cash and the line can be long. It's charming, but not exactly fine dining. And why should it be! Ok, how have I not reviewed this place in all the times I've been here? Oversight on my part. Anyway, I've eaten here dozens of times and it never disappoints. Lunch rush is definitely a thing here, so be sure you have time to wait if you're coming at rush time. This is the OG Coney Island and my favorite location. Just a tip, they take cash only, so swing by an ATM before you pull up. Parking can also be challenging, so be sure to plan for that. It's worth it though! My favs are the #2 dogs (chili, cheese, mustard, onions), the bowl of chili with cheese, onions, and extra onions, and I always add 2-3 jalapeno peppers on the side. They're pickled, add a good flavor, and have a little kick. They're usually not too spicy unless you have too many (just get a large drink and you'll be ok lol). They also offer individual bags of chips in various flavors, canned sodas, fountain drinks, tea, and Baklava as dessert. They have other dishes too, like chili spaghetti, but I haven't tried that one or the others, so I can't recall all the options. They charge for drink refills, but it's only like $0.50 or something like that- very minimal. Unfortunately, we now live out of state, so we can only swing by when we're in town. I am definitely looking forward to our next trip to OKC. This place is great. Yes, it's older and a bit ran down. It really shows in suite they're in, but it's definitely worth your trip. read more

Went around 12:30 on a Friday-only a single employee, a sweet older lady just doing her best. We asked for no onions on my dogs-even repeatedly telling her hold them as she piled them on... A few moments later she made a pair more, almost distinctly reaching for the onion spoon again, but hesitated and asked us if we wanted none. For some reason our hotdog's were just laid on paper without baskets. This made quite a mess with the chili. Overall, the place could use a good deep clean, and at least one more person during peak hours, as several tables were littered with empty baskets and cups. The food was flavorful and the bones were nice and fresh. I took my wife there because she had heard so much about it and wanted to experience it and I have to say... That's a good hot dog! We got a chili dog and a frito pie and both were the snack we needed before getting back on the road. If we visit again we definitely want to try the spaghetti and bowl of chili. Great value for the price. Walking in feels like a different time, and looks like they are big sports fans. Popped in for a cheap $2.50 chili dog for a late lunch one day. I was served immediately, no problems. The place is so old and smells like cigarette smoke. The chili dog was perfectly fine. While I ate, I watched Judge Judy on the TV and stared at boxes of canned chili stacked against the wall which reinforced the simplicity of this operation. This restaurant (if you can call it that) is wild. Walking in here it feels like you're in the 1970s. The wood-paneled walls are covered in OU posters and fluorescent lighting shines brightly from the low drop-tile ceiling. A small kitchen in the back is the only thing that sets this place apart from a random basement that hasn't been renovated since the Nixon era. The menu has like 5 or 6 items on it. Basically just various permutations of hot dogs, chili, and some kind of Greek spaghetti. I don't think anything cost more than $4.00. The place is supposedly run by two sisters that have owned it for decades. Nice people, and apparently very averse to change. Also, they only take cash. I ordered a plain hot dog with mustard. When asked why I didn't want the chili dog, I replied "I'm a simple man." In truth, I was hesitant to try the chili because this place didn't exactly seem up to code and I really wasn't that hungry anyway. Nonetheless, the lady behind the counter hands me a plastic spoon full of chili and asks that I try it. I politely oblige. It tastes like Wolf-brand chili. Not bad, but I still stuck with the regular dog. As far as the food goes, what can I say? It tasted like a hot dog. By the way, if you eat ten chili dogs they take your picture and put it on the wall. But the owner made it clear to me -- you still have to buy the hot dogs. I'll give it a 4/5. Taking off a star because the signage in the window implies that they sell beer, but I didn't see any beer on the menu. Maybe I'll come back one day and ask them about it. read more

This is a no-nonsense place, bring cash and remember that you are here for a coney you can't get anywhere else in the city, not for stellar customer service. The service is pretty quick, know what you want when it's your turn, the lady behind the counter doesn't play. You genuinely can't beat the prices, I got lunch for two for $12.50, that's unbelievable in this year of our overlord 2024. The food is amazing, if someone tells you it isn't, they aren't into coneys. It's no NYC dog, but we take what we can get. The restaurant itself is really fun, very well loved over the years. I'm not a Sooners fan but I can get over all the memorabilia on the walls because the food is just that good. I would definitely recommend! read more

The chili here is amazing!!!! If you are a fan of good chili that doesn't have beans, this is the place to go! The hot dogs are good, but my favorite is the Greek spaghetti. This is a giant plate of noodles covered with their signature chili, cheese, and (if you want) onions! It my sound a little strange to have chili in noodles, but it is surprisingly super tasty! I ate the whole plate and a piece of baklava for dessert. They make a delicious baklava. Usually I'm not a fan because the honey is just too much. This was perfect with crispy layers! The inside is dated, but I think that's adds to the atmosphere of being an original older restaurant. There's a lot of sooner sports memorabilia on the walls. read more

When I was a teenager (Don B.) I used to long to go in The Coney Island near either The Midwest or The State movie theater downtown. I was banned from there by my parents because beer was served. It seemed like the windows were always steamed up. Painted there was their slogan - "Buy 'em by the sack." Now several decades and many dozens of hot dogs later, I still enjoy an occasional coney or three at either location. I appreciate their use of local supplier Schwab's for brick chili and all meat wieners. It's somewhat hard to appreciate the decor, but it is tolerable. As to the food, don't expect more than what it is - a place for hot dogs, chili, frito chili pies and greek spaghetti with chili. It is brick chili, not canned, but is still most suited for coneys, not in a bowl or even over pasta. One of the managers at the Capitol Hill location can lay six or seven buns along his hand and forearm and dress the coneys as if on a production line. I can no longer eat more than 3 at a time, but recall dining with guys who would easily eat 10 or 12 on a bet! In any case, the coney dogs are exactly as such things should be eaten and are very tasty indeed. While no longer priced at $1.10, as in the betting days, they are quite reasonable at below $3. Support a piece of OKC restaurant history and "Buy 'em by the sack"! Or join in some competitive eating at the downtown location. read more

The coneys were hot and pretty good but the weiners were a cheaper brand so not as good as some of the coneys we have had. I thought they were fine but my husband didn't care for them. A STAPLE in downtown OKC- Coney Island has been around since 1924 absolutely KILLING the OKC hot dog game! The #2 is my favorite- coney with mustard, chili, cheese, and onions . They also have a really good frito chili pie if you've never had it and spaghetti. If you don't know, they have always only accepted CASH so make sure you have that before walking in OR there a bank across the street with an atm. There's seats to dine inside OR you can grab to go. But I will put their coneys up to anyone in the city! The only couple reasons I'm not rating a 5 is because parking can be terrible downtown and sometimes the restaurant can have a stench I'm sure due to the age of the location. This place is historic in OK, and so I'm happy I finally got to try it. They were busy during lunchtime, and they only had one staff working, so I waited about 25 minutes. I did appreciate that she washes her hand after handling the cash. The place could use some TLC, and it is not the cleanest. The tables were pretty dirty. After trying their hot dog, I don't think it was that great. I had the coney with chili and onions, and the chili itself is tasteless. Sure they have chili, but that's for putting onto hotdogs or noodles! And spoiler alert, their chili is damn good too! While the line could get long due to the influx of workers during lunch hour, it's still relatively quick compared to other restaurants. They always have hotdogs, chili, and noodles cooking, so there's hardly a wait. Not to mention, it's very affordable too! What else can I say? It was ok. My friend thinks it's the best in the world. I had chili Frito pie. It looks like the food is all pre made and the lady making it doesn't wear gloves or wash her hands but I mean I didn't get sick and the old paneling on the walls reminded me of visiting that one family member at Christmas in their trailer. The frito pie was delicious. I had it with both cheese and onion and don't regret my decision! However, the small bowl that was nearly $4 alone was not filling and I left hungry ); I used my cash to pay for parking out front and then planned to use my card inside. I was not aware they only took cash, but I already paid to park so I just stayed and spent the last little bit of cash I had on the tiny bowl. I probably won't return just because it's all been a hassle to park then dig out cash and having to go somewhere else to get more food with a credit card to get full.
