I'll give it 3.5 stars. Very uneven, but high points are very good.
This is the Marriott Tijuana hotel restaurant. First day I had tortilla soup and shrimp cocktail - both excellent. The shrimp especially, fresh and a generous portion. Delicious!
Second day, I felt like having a burger for nostalgia's sake as I've been dieting recently and wanted to indulge a bit. Terrible decision. The patty was some frozen sheet of beef the likes of which I have not seen in quite some time. Any fast food place in the U.S. wpuld be better, I am not kidding! It comes with bacon which meant 1 small strip, cut in half. And the cherry on top? They brought me cocktail sauce instead of ketchup; I asked for ketchup instead; they brought me a bigger dish of cocktail sauce - haha! -1 to me for being a silly American tourist
I tried to put on a brave face but one bite of that burger, sans ketchup to mask the sad beef, and I had to admit defeat. I sent it back somewhat sheepishly.
By the time my new order came I had been seated for almost an hour. The place was almost empty, so not sure why it took so long to prepare the food. Anyway I'm now writing this as I eat the steak panini, which is just a sandwich on a roll, with literally just beef and cheese and a bit of spicy mayo. Not worth paying for, sorry to say. If this had been my first meal here I would not come back.
As it stands, I consider it a classic tourist type restaurant - order something regionally typical and it will probably be delicious! Order anything else at your peril - it is only on the menu to appease the unadventurous American eater (N.B. this is not me lol) and the kitchen may not really "understand" the dish.
Forewarned is forearmed! The staff are all lovely and very helpful, courteous, etc. I wish them the best. read more
