I just recently had LASIK surgery done and Dr. Chen was with me every step of the way. Regardless of any kickbacks, I got quality recommendations from her. When I asked her questions about each doctor and each institution I felt that she answered them freely and honestly and never did she try to sway me to choose one doctor over another. I did my own research on other doctors in the area and she provided honest feedback for them as well. When she wasn't familiar with one of the doctors I mentioned she took the time to research more about them so that I could make a more informed decision. She was very sympathetic to the fact that I was extremely anxious about the procedure, knowing it took me years to muster up the courage to do it. When I found the right LASIK center for me she came by to watch the procedure. I was really touched that she did that. She took care of me on my day after appointment and I am continuing to see her for all my LASIK post-op appointments. It's clear that Dr. Chen isn't just your average optometrist. I want to preface this review by pointing out that my initial experience with Concourse optometry was not the greatest however after rescheduling my appointment and coming to the conclusion that the initial mix up was something that was out of their hands I felt compelled to update my review. The rescheduled appointment went well, the office is nicely decorated with large, modern comfy chairs that although minimal, made the wait time very comfortable. Both Dr. Chen and her staff were very professional and very pleasant and make you feel welcomed the moment you walk in. I liked that they take proper precautions for the current situation we live in by taking your temperature at the door and of course having everyone wearing masks and everything being sanitized after every use. The actual exam experience was also great, Dr. Chen was very thorough and she takes the time to actually listen and explain everything so you understand it, which I believe is a bit rare with doctors nowadays. I will be back for a follow up in a couple of weeks but after such a great experience I have no doubt I will be coming to this practice for all my future optometry needs. read more

Dr. Chen is amazing! I came in a year ago due to my poor eyesight, expected a quick analysis and prescription glasses. She took her time analyzing my eyes, gave me my diagnosis, keratoconus. She explained exactly what keratoconus was and proceeded to give me the best options for my eyes. We agreed on hard contacts and she took her time in getting me the perfect fit and let me tell you I was amazed by the dramatic change in my eyesight. Her team is the best! They always greet me with kindness whether its over the phone or in person and always make the best effort to make sure I am comfortable during my visit. The whole office is great! I highly recommend trusting your eyes to Dr Chen and can't comment their friendly and helpful staff enough to offer you great suggestions for glasses that will fit and frame your face. Dr. Chen has excellent bedside manner. She's a caring professional, informative, and diagnosed my issue immediately. Apparently at my last Costco eye visit, I was given too strong of a prescription. My vision was blurry and I assumed it was getting bad due to old age. That wasn't the case and she fixed me up straight away and offered a better solution. I felt immediate relief. That childhood feeling of fleeting happiness you chase all your life? Dr Chen is able to give that you if you choose her to protect your eyes. I haven't gotten to the best part. Her expert 'glass-choosing' staff recommended a major upgrade to my eyeglass wearing situation. I thought I was fine with my RayBans (which was incredibly difficult to find sunglasses to frame my face) but they're super heavy compared to these new ones. So I went ahead and invested the extra $$$ to get practically indestructible frames that accent my life for mid-century modern. I am always apprehensive with loud fashion statements or change but this was a welcoming addition and they all made me feel completely at ease. I think 5 stars is exaggerated from someone who's been to optometrists and ophthalmologists for over 30 years all over Orange County. I've lived in Irvine almost 15 years now so I suppose I should be used to over pricing. I went here because I just moved across the street and didn't think it'd cost much more. Imagine my sticker shock when they hand me a $500 bill. I'm used to paying nothing with insurance. Instead of asking me how many boxes of contacts I wanted or reviewing the exam prices they slap me with a bill, and I was the one who had to ask questions. The same contact lenses were almost double the cost! I understand a little price increase but no. Buy from Costco or any online company. They tried to charge me $105/box. I remember paying $55/box at Costco but was unsure about inflation. Went straight home and researched and was $65-69/box average. Costco must be less, but I didn't call. Also, they give you about 5 forms to sign. I ended up getting charged $50 more! I told them they didn't disclose this. They said, oh it's on the paperwork and you should have read it. Okk I would never say that to a customer. I work in finance with customer service. I explain everything no matter if someone was investing $100k or $1m because I do not assume everyone has the same knowledge. i can afford $50, but that left such a bad taste in my mouth. I left without buying anything and my exam cost $120. I won't be back or recommend this place. Doctor was sweet and nice but also used too much industry jargon. Again, I'm in customer service. You can't assume we all know "eye doctor"verbiage so that would be my critique for the doctor. read more
