I was in the LIC area and stopped by Concept Coffee to check out their Filipino-inspired drinks! The kape ube latte was solid with its ube flavor and sweet as expected. I don't know why I thought the coconut milk would be more prominent? I wonder how the ratio of the flavors would present if I gotten it cold instead. The almond croissant was very flaky and featured a generous amount of crispy almond slices. I appreciated how the inside almond layer was kinda light with some spices (vs other thicker, heavier sauce-like filling). Almond flavors were very prominent. Staff were friendly and polite. I loved the tropical decor and greenery! There were a good amount of tables and people were using computers on the weekend. I was standing outside cheering on the marathon runners and my hands were frozen. I was so grateful to see this coffee shop right near where I was standing so I could warm up and grab a hot tea. I got a chai latte with non-dairy milk, and the barista made it perfectly. So delicious and perfect way to warm up! I was in the mood for something different than your standard fare coffee shop breakfast and Americano, so when I saw Concept Coffee has both Avocado Foccacia and Buko Pandan Latte, I made my way there. Both are pretty darn good, though just short of exceptional. The Buko Pandan consists of espresso, Pandan syrup, coconut milk, and coconut flakes, and while it is pretty delicious thanks for the coconut milk and flakes, I really don't taste the Pandan, which is too bad because it is one of my favorite flavors. The Avocado Foccacia did a little better and it was bursting with flavors. Their stock of avocado was a bit unripe today so the guy went to the nearby market to buy a fresh one, which is appreciated. You can taste that nutty fresh avocado flavor that complements well with the Foccacia bread. The herbs of the Foccacia made every bite a yummy one, although I didn't get enough of the red peppers coming through. The only negative comment is the bread is overly hard. I like my Foccacia a bit fluffier while balancing the crispness. I also like the overall interior decor that puts a bit of the island flavor. There is no bathroom, however. read more

The Serhant Iced was entirely up my alley for a few reasons: 1) I love the combination of matcha & ube and 2) I've been a big fan of Ryan Serhant since the MDL days! #iykyk This drink was super smooth, creamy, and lightly sweet. It was great to enjoy on a warm day and gave me the slight boost I needed. The Iced Buko Pandan Latte was also a good try but a bit too nutty for my liking. The pandan definitely brings out a nutty, vanilla-like flavor that did go well with the coconut milk & flakes but it was just overpowering. The staff is super friendly. I really like Concept Coffee! I've had the buko pandan latte and the kape ube multiple times and they're pretty consistent. The staff is great, and it's a cute little coffee shop to sit in and get some work done for a while if you want. Drinks are pretty unique, and I'd love to try them all but I really fell in love with the buko pandan latte and the kape ube, and now I can't bring myself to try anything else. I've heard great things about their other drinks as well though, so maybe one day I'll finally try something new. But for now, my two flavoured iced lattes are my go-tos. Espresso is straight up not good... I have trust issues w LIC coffee shops now. I got a hot latte w oat milk and it tastes way too milky and poor quality. They're definitely on the sweeter side, but you can tell the coffee is pretty strong and it's not super milk forward which is a plus. Love the cozy atmosphere &&& they have great AC for the summer heat .... I tried a few things here over the last few days . They have hot breakfast sandwiches as well as pastry's . Buko Pandan Latte that doesn't taste primarily like coconut milk? I'm all ears. Since I trekked all the way to LIC, my friends and I were going to make it worth it. Initially we were going to try the new bubble tea on the same block but a friend of ours insisted on chai. When we first went in, the vibes were of a modern coffee shop but without the windows in the back, the back indoor seating area is a little dark. Despite the lack of natural light, the vibe was nice and the baristas are personable and bubbly. I ordered the Buko Pandan Latte which was one of the better Pandan Lattes I had. While it's sweeter than my usual, I loved that the espresso didn't overpower the pandan and you could taste the floral notes of the pandan. My friend got the Rose Chai which I found to be too sweet, and my partner got an iced tea which was good but also a little sweet. For a place in the middle of LIC, the coffee is pretty good and they have many Asian inspired drink flavors, albeit sweet. I definitely want to try the ube drinks if I get a chance to go back and probably pair the drink with a savory pastry. read more

Fantastic coffee shop in LIC. Perfect location between Court square station and the waterfront park. Concept coffee shop has been in the neighborhood just over a year, so they are fairly new. The interior has a nice vibe and pretty tropical wallpaper decor. The shop offers plenty of seating inside and out, and seems like a great place to get some work done. The chai was from a decent concentrate so I'll allow it. I was so hungry and to my luck they still had the avocado focaccia toast available. This is the thing to order if you're starved. It was ginormous and worth the 10 bucks. I asked for mine without red pepper flakes because I wasn't feeling the heat but I'm pretty sure it would be dang good if it was on there as well. read more

I was really excited to try the ube latte here after reading its rave reviews, but unfortunately my ube latte had no trace of ube flavor. I'm not sure if this was a one-off, but if it weren't for the ube powder sprinkled on top I would have assumed that I had received the wrong order. I wish this spot all of the success. There is a monthly concept and so far, they've done an ube drink (not the one I have here) and a mango/cinnamon/coconut one that I would have gotten but I was so hyped on caffeine from getting 2 drinks in my first visit already. Lord knows I'm coming back here. SHAKERATO Doesn't automatically come with milk it's just a shaken espresso with simple syrup, so you can add milk if you like. I added the oat milk and it was good but honestly next time I try this i'm gonna get it without milk and just let the espresso sing for itself. KAPE UBE Such a good drink. The ube comes through and complements the coffee, neither overpowering each other but they share the real estate pretty evenly. The drink itself wasn't saccharine, just the right amount of sweetness. Lots of their menu is composed of interesting stuff you don't really find in other cafes and the quality is there too. Overall, great place to get some studying done as well. So came in here randomly looking for a cup of coffee. Passed a few places that looked meh in the area before landing here. So glad I skipped the others and came here. Such a lovely shop and experience. While the coffee (I got an awesome Cortado, a REAL cortado!) was beautiful and tasted divine, that was only part of it. I've had great cups of coffee a lot of places, but this cup, combined with the atmosphere and the presence of Annie (and ass barista with literally one of the most soothing voices I have ever heard. So enjoyed listening to her being friendly with everyone and engaging with customers) made this one of the best coffees I have ever had. I've been a couple times in the mornings since I'm in the area often and for the punch card reward (10th drink is free). The staff is very friendly and it seems a lot of people that come here are locals, given it's somewhat away from the major streets/shopping areas. Seating can be hard to sometimes since there aren't much tables indoors, so it can be a hit or miss when I try to meet up with a friend. I find the menu board very helpful as it lists out every ingredient in an organized manner and saves time with decision making. So far I've had their non-dairy lattes, beetroot latte, chagaccino, and matcha latte, but today I was in the mood to try their hot kape ube on a rainy Sunday. The kape ube was very foamy and he barista left a cute little clover on the top! However, it was a bit too sweet for my taste and halfway through the drink, it started tasting "syrupy"--so next time I would ask for less syrup. read more

Update: Lowering my rating to 3-stars because for the several times I've come, there is always some critical piece of the menu that is out of stock. Not a great experience. If you don't actually plan on carrying certain items, I suggest taking it off the menu. Example: Ube Latte - out of coconut milk. Cafe con Canela - sorry, no condensed milk. Concept Coffee NY: QN: LIC 2022 May Concept Coffee is the newest corner coffee shop in Long Island City. It replaces the long lasting but waning The Mill Coffee House. The inside is sleek with dark wood, white tile, vibrant wall paper, and neon sign stating "Time to Grind." I had an almond milk cappuccino which was excellently prepared with nested heart foam pattern. The staff was friendly especially for the unexpectedly busy 7am on a sleepy Sunday in LIC.
